Anyone else getting these links on the forum?

It's a commercial business, to hurt it most if you disagree then vote with your feet and buy elsewhere, but lest you forget they don't do any of this forum stuff for anything more than building a community of like minds who shop with them. You can't please all of the people all of the time and you can turn it off, so the righteous indignation being expressed by some seems a little OTT.

Gotta say not really seeing the reason for kicking off about this.

I'm against it to a degree but its a sound business decision and at the end of the day OcUK is a business, they've listened to feedback and modified the system to be more friendly to regular users so you can tell when its a shop link and when its someone linking purposefully keeping the original meaning of the post.

On a side note could probably modify the system further when its an external referrer (tho I've not checked what happens in that case or when browsing not logged in) but I'd imagine theres more chances to include stuff then for getting people who've come to the forums via a google search to see more of the shop.

Fine if that's the way you want it to be

I told you, petulant behaviour won't help.

I don't see your issue here, honestly, this forum is absolutely excellent for the most part and a few links that you don't even see won't change that. The forum is directly linked to a shop - which funds it - so these kind of things are to be expected.

As long as it doesn't get to silly levels, I don't think anyone really cares, bar a handful of people. I know you contribute a lot to PC games, but effectively threatening them was never going to work. Never.

No German has had any input in this decision and you are a xenophobe.
Not sure that is relevant as they are the guys who own the place and so are ultimately responsible. Until somebody else steps up I've nobody else to reference. I've heard of Spie but nobody else has introduced themselves.

For what it's worth I think Germans as a people and their culture are great, I've really liked every one I've met :)

Anyone who threatens to leave the forum over it might as well just leave, that or go set-up their own community forum where they have full control...and all the bills.
Pretty sure profit from the shop MORE than covers the bills for the forum, its not as if its run at a loss its a great marketing tool also.

I generally shop at places that have a strong community attached to it.

Not sure I follow what you mean.

Honestly I'd have no problem turning it off for anything but the hw subforums and for all registered members. As several have said it's sole intention is to catch random google searchers who've landed here looking for opinions on some product or other and don't even know what an ocuk is never mind if it sells what they were looking for.

But tbh, petty as it is, Neil's ****ed me off, so I'm not feeling like it. Maybe one of the Germans he hates so much will tell me to more reasonable on Monday :p

Additionally, and this is something I cannot agree with, he and a few others seem to think it's their legal right to tell OcUK as the publisher what it can do with their posts which is frankly not a discussion I want to enter in to nor a precedent I want to set. As they say, your people can speak to my people.

Where have you been? They have introduced themselves. :)

Also, yes we are owned by the Germans, however we are still OcUK and we still have our say. In fact most of it is our say. :)

In fact a lot of it is YOUR say, we have listened and gone ahead with so many ideas from customers, it is not all the time you come across this with companies. You are lucky to be talking directly to management of a company casually. Even on a Sunday. You don't find that with many companies at all in this age.

Social idolisation, some folks become somewhat important to the social construct like the one have on these forums, I'm sure you know though.

So it adds a bit of arrogance, unfortunately...though it never works unless the moderators are rather corrupt or plain nuisance mod's, since the truth of all websites on the internet is that they are inherently dictatorships (the simple version), I sometimes think people forget this.

Was that it, one post each and then back on the plane? :(

Would be nice if they popped in a bit more, maybe the odd phone call and a card at Christmas?

Not got to Christmas yet, so you never know that may happen! ;) :p :D

I might even send you a Christmas letter, or even a love letter in Feb. :)

Um, that would be me, I posted way back to say we'd changed things based on feed back - I guess saying I'd changed things would be more accurate.

I'm not exactly an anonymous figure, sure I don't have a godfather avatar but I've been here and active on the forums for a very long time. I'm a director of the ocuk companies and have worked for ocuk since pretty much day 1.

If its anything like company's are with emails, OCUK will own all of your posts and can do whatever they like with them if they want! Some people are just take take take and their sense of self-entitlement is quite frankly amazing! Its a shop and it wants to increase its profits jsut like any business does end of story!

Why is it not relevant in PC gaming? Or is it just the only place that you visit and therefore your crusade against advertising is null if it only affects other people?

TBH the gaming crowd have always been special - Spie deleted the forum once because he felt they were ungrateful ;)

Different day, same old **** :p

PC Gamers probably make up most of OCUK's revenue... it's not like your average person requires the majority of the things that they sell.

Could always like disable it in my posts then even when it's OFF

Anyhoo going for dinner, take some time out and after enjoy the sun
