Anyone else not a big drinker?

Now that's just weird, sorry but it is.

Don't be bothered about not drinking - it doesn't make you big and it doesn't make you clever.

I agree, not drinking doesn't make you big and it doesn't make you clever.

I get pretty blootered at least 2 or 3 times a week so Christmas is no different other than having a slightly higher quality of drink.

Why?
From an early teenager I absolutely hated the taste of alcohol and the smell of cigarettes so I never did either.
Thats like me saying you're weird cause you don't like cucumber (or whatever).
I've never let anybody influence me and I've always taken my own steps and not once have I been an outcast because I didn't drink or smoke.

Who mentioned anythning about you being an outcast? I merely said, quite rightly, that it is weird (ie: uncommon) for someone in the UK to get to 40 years old and not have had a proper pint.

dmpoole mentioned it, and he simply said it has never been the case because he didn't drink/smoke?

It's true. Along with spousal abuse and xenophobia, alcoholism is a cornerstone of British culture. To go 40 years without a pint is downright unpatriotic.

My point was explaining what I mean by "weird", so while I appreciate your boy scout attempt at jumping in, let the man speak for himself.

I was born in Nigeria and drinking wasn't the in thing.
We were taught how to scam.

That's exactly what I'm like at the moment. I'm 16 and I don't drink (got drunk once two years ago, hated it), don't smoke as the smell is disgusting and it's extremely bad for your health, and I never let anyone make me feel bad about it. :)

Also the major difference is that unlike other young men you have a passion for music and know where you'd rather spend your money instead of wee'ing it up against a wall or blowing it into the air. Just think how much you can save if you never do either over the years.
(And just let me add that I have no problem with drinkers or smokers if thats how they want to spend their money but don't have a go at me when I have the latest toy).

I dont drink, cant stand the stuff, tastes so bad. Dont seem to get affected really either, i guess thats my dads imunity to alcohol genes :p

chilled coke > drinks that taste of petrol.

That's such an inspiring post and it's so true. So many people brag about going out 'on the tiles' and what have you. I can brag about never throwing up in town and having money to spend.

I'm only 17 but I have no taste at all for any alcohol bar alcopops (which are mostly sugar anyway) I can't stand the taste of wine and beer

interesting thread this - im 21 and never touch the stuff. My folks didnt ever touch at and it kinda has ran down the family. I hated all the lads in school who thought they were real hard men just cause they drank alcohol. I can have enough of a laugh without it and also when your trying to save up for flying lessons every penny is valuable!

I dont drink at all really :)

I just dont feel the need to get drunk and i hate the taste of most drinks.

Ive never been drunk ever :)

I'm 29 and have never been a big drinker. Even in school I disn't see the need to get hammered fri and sat. I will have 2 cans on the weekend in the nights and maybe a shandy occasionally through the week, but thats it and then the cans are 1 on sat and 1 on sun night. I will have a little drink tomorrow of some cheap sparkling wine with dinner and then a can in the evening, but that's it.

I like to have a good time and a laugh and remember it, and be well the next day to enjoy that day, plus I got money as well. People thought I was odd and strange cause I would rather save up to get an upgrade for my PC, than go out and blow it all on booze and have nothing to show for it. And I drive a lot so, don't want to loose my licence.

My cousin got hammered last Xmas on the 23rd Dec and M8's dumped him in a taxi for a 15 mile trip and cause he came around and was drink, abused the driver, so he dumped him 2 miles from his home in the city centre, then trying to get home drunk, he went up a steep banking and fell 50ft into a stream and died, his parents, esp is mother is in a state now a year on. And to make things worse, he was away for 2 weeks, and instead of seeing his GF and parents 1st, went out with the boys instead, not contacting no-one close to him.

Drink is not fun when you are hammered and don't know what you are doing.

Anthony
