Anyone fancy reading a script I wrote?

anksta, I'd love to give it a read if you'd be so kind to send me a copy (email in trust).

Email in trust if you want another set of eyes to proof read it.

I will give it a read if you like, email is in trust.

no emails in any of these trusts guys

I will read it for you!

sent mate

I don't mind sending it out to more people but not a lot have got back to me so if you do read it can you let me know what you thought please?

Doesn't have to pages of critique, just whether you thought it was any good will be fine.

Thanks

still not got the email :/

sent now mate

I know a few people who've asked for it have been missed out and I apologise, but still, I have way over 20 emails in my sent items, and maybe 5 or 6 have said anything back.

I'll have to start employing a one in one out scenario soon.

hello people, I entered the script into a BAFTA competition today. 3 winner placements get to go to New York TV Festival in September and meet loads of American TV producers and things.

I doubt I'll win but you never know, just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave feedback, it all helped and what I didn't change I used in the season synopsis and character breakdowns I had to write for this entry form.

Just getting ready to send it plenty of producers and agents who are willing to read unsolicited material.

Does anyone know anyone any TV producers/agents/managers/directors or anyone else who works in the TV biz that might be interested on giving a spec script a once over?

Cheers

^ I've donE a few tv jobs in the past so I'll see if I can get hold of some contacts for you.

Likewise, I be happy to give it a read and give you some feedback if you like. :)

alright Mike you never replied and your email wasn't in your trust, I just sent you a message asking to reply.

Did you get it mate?

submitted the script to a couple more places now, including this Industrial Scripts place where, if you purchase one of their script services, they'll grade your work and if it's good enough pass it on to a few different reputable agencies and producers.

Service got me 85 quid, who thinks I'm mental for that?

I'd say £85 is about right, really. It's roughly the amount I'd probably charge you for proof-reading and editing a script the size yours is and anyway, professional advice is priceless when you're starting out :D

I've got an 12,000 word piece that needs proof-reading *yikes*!

yeah I don't reckon 85 is that bad in the grand scheme of things. That doesn't mean it doesn't sting though.

Sent it this morning, I'm already absolutely bricking it. Completely doubting the entire thing now, not funny, doesn't make sense, poor writing.

I don't mind spending 85 quid if it's gonna come back with "yeah you're great, we've set up meetings all over town" which obviously isn't going to happen so if it's just "we didn't think much of this, might as well jack it in" then the 85 quid is gonna seem like it was never worth it.

I'd be happy to take a look if your still wanting people to read it :)

You can read it if you like mate but there's no email in your trust.

Bad luck.

Nevermind though. One thing is certain and that's that they will always need scripts!

Keep at it.

*You've also inspired me to write one now. :D

yeah, I am pretty gutted. I reckon though where we are now is another massive milestone where people jack it in, i.e. completed one full script and had no response.

Going to this BAFTA thing tonight in town and already got a couple more ideas.

Still have it out at other places but I thought I would've heard back from at least a couple by now, I put a self addressed stamped postcard in all the envelopes, just to acknowledge receipt, only ever got one back and that had 'no thanks' written on it.

The least they could do though is send it back, literally all they have to do is put it in their outgoing mail.

The woman from the BBC I met with hasn't replied yet either, she said she'd read it over the summer so really I'm gonna have to wait until the end of August before chasing her.

What's your script about mate? I encourage loads of people to write and then get dead nervous they're gonna be better at it than me.

I'm so insecure.

Tell us more. Why wasn't the feedback worth it?

I'll email it you if you want Forde.

It had some good points in it, compared to some feedback we got from this editor at HBO, it was a fair bit better. But they still passed on it, what annoyed me was a lot of it was things we already had.

They were saying "this person has to do this, go here, interact like this" and we have all that in the synopses for further episodes. They did say a few times specifically that although we had them in there, they should be in the pilot episode, which is fair enough and we'll definitely be addressing some of those but it did seem a bit like they wanted everything all at once.

I don't know what I was expecting, at least they didn't say we needed to learn how to write a script properly.

yeah I'm starting to think people aren't really getting it, like they've all said we know what we're talking about and we're incredibly accurate with our portrayals (for the most part) but that it isn't funny enough.

I don't want to say I don't agree with it because that sounds a bit arrogant, I think it's alright to disagree with some of it as long as you're taking on the rest.

I think people are reading some of the jokes like really heavy bits of drama, like my favourite joke in the whole thing is the main guy explaining why he doesn't like his uncle, his dad says "he's alright", the kid goes "he threw me in a lake" and the dad goes "yeah it weren't deep" but no one has mentioned those types of lines, everyone comments on the more obvious jokes.

I honestly don't know if it's a good thing it's so specific, I suppose it is if we find someone who truly gets it but I'm losing confidence by the day that anyone is going to.

We said that now that it's sent out, we'd leave it and start something else but now we're getting feedback, I'm tempted to change it to accommodate some of the points I agree with and have another go, but if you do that, then where do you stop?

yeah I've thought a few times about making it myself but no matter what way round I think about it, it's gonna cost me money I don't have.

I need a producer.

I have a couple of mates who have their own small company doing promo videos and stuff at the minute, one of them is actually a really talented director who has won awards for his short films. He's offered a couple of times but when I asked him a bit more about he still needed me to produce it.
