Anyone got the Antec 900 yet ?

So are you going to post pics ?

How noisy is it with all fans on low, especially the 200mm ?
Is the case very plasticky on top or solid like the P180 ?
Sidepanels - are they very thin/flimsy or heavy ?

Trying to decide if I will replace my Akasa Mirage with this.

Sidepanels - same thing..are they very thin or heavy ?

Will post pics as soon as camera is charged.

Noise wise i have the 120mm fans set to low & 200mm fan to medium and its very quite indeed.
The top is all plastic but doesn't look as plasticy compared to the front of the eclipse or mirage.
The side panels are made of steel and are not flimsy at all & no plastic lugs to break such as those on the P180

Excellent....look forward to the pics.

Could be ordering today :)

One thing...could you measure the distance from the psu to the top edge of your motherboard. I am concerned the 12v cable from the psu wont reach and my mobo connector is on the top edge of the board.

Also - do you think the psu will suck hot air in from the video card ?

thanks

The psu i have is a FSP Epsilon 600w and it reaches fine,i would say 30cm away(My P4+ connector is also right at the top of the motherboard).

My psu fan is only 1inch away from my soundblaster card so don't think it will be sucking any air from my 7950GX2

Thinking of a OCZ ModStream 520w reacon it would fit?? Will be pairing it with a DS3 mobo so wanna check if anyone knows before i buy :) ty.
Also what is this DVI connector problem thing? The DS3's PCI-E slot isnt the closest slot to the cpu, its 2nd... so will this Monitor Connection Problem be a problem?

If you think the modstream will be too short what do you reacon will be a good substitute? 500W+ :)

ty in advance, btw love the case its some cooling power and some good armoured looks its gonna beam at a lan!

I managed to have a good poke about in one yesterday. When I first saw the photographs I thought that it looked like a bog-standard steel case with a load of plasticy features slapped on top. After seeing one in the flesh I reckon I was half-right. It's a well made steel case with loads of plasticy features slapped on top. The plastics are also of a very poor quality. It is extremely hard and brittle. The Akasa plastics have some 'give' in them so they are quite scratch resistant. I managed to accidentally scratch the Antec 900 demo case with my belt buckle.

It is big though. The fan on top is gigantic. It wasn't powered up so I couldn't judge loudness or air flow but I cannot help but think it's just another gimmicky Antec case designed to sell to the 'yoof' market.

As I get older I drift more and more towards the Lian-Li one-stop-shop attitude as that way I know I'm getting sensible features and excellent build quality for my money. If you have a Mirage 62, I'd keep it to be honest. There is very little better on the market unless you really hate the looks. If the plastic front of the Mirage is putting you off, don't even think about the Antec 900 as it's got plastic everywhere.

thanks for that WJA96, i have been staying away from the Mirage simply cause of the door and if the 900 is below par on that then its a no go for me. Antec P180 is next on my shopping list

*runs to look for another case with good cooling potention -_-*
Oh well thanks i dont like plasticy looks, i suppose i could live with them but hmm lian li is too small and bigger ones are ££ :) Might be ThermalTake Armour or NZXT Lexa what you guys think!?

I have been deliberating and researching for 2 days now....

There were three choices.

The Lian - li PC7 - which everyone agrees is a top case.
The Antec 900 - which looks great (albeit lots of plastic bits) and has lots of extras (how many fans?)
And the Akasa Ecplipse - which everyone also agrees is an excellent case. Only probs are that it doesn't come with any fans and these are extras.

The link is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Akasa_Cases.html

Hope this helps.

Whitey

This thread is getting dafter by the minute.

In my terribly humble opinion cases are unbelieveably taste driven. If you like it, buy it. There are very few turkeys out there although Yewen's current gem of advice "Three golden rules of buying a case, if its called Stacker 830 avoid, if its called Asus Vento AVOID and if its got a giant cheap monster head on it avoid" is soon to be adopted into my signature.

I've had an Akasa Eclipse,Lian-Li PC7 +2 & now the Antec 900,with me i choose cooling over looks. And the Antec is the best cooling case i have ever owned period & also very very quiet.

Im sorry what?

Antec make great cases, the SUPER LANBOY and the Antec P180 have sold LOADS.

The ATC and Lian Li cases are great quality because they are just aluminium, nothing can go wrong. I had an ATC 201, and while it looked stunning the Alu inside scratched easily. Dont get me wrong, I would get a 201 over a Solo or a 900 anyday, but just another gimmicky design is just not true.

This case is aimed at the performance gamers market, and I can see where they tried to make a case for that. But I think the Super Lanboy did enough.

If selling loads was any indication of a great case, the best case in the world would have to be the steel beige mATX mini tower. The Super Lanboy is a great case. It targets a particular market niche. A young person who needs a credible looking case big enough to fit a really powerful PC into, but small enough and light enough that it can be carried to and from LAN parties. It ticks every box and, given that it retails for £35 with two first class fans, it sells by the bucketload.

Antec saw the market for targetted niche cases years ago. Look at the Sonata. There was a requirement for a case that damped down the crude, noisy components commonly in use when it came out. It has/had a very high quality PSU. It was pretty well made and it cost £65. Bargain.

The P180 on the other hand is a product looking for a market that doesn't actually exist. It's supposed to be a cool, quiet case, but what makes the most noise in a case - the fans. So how do they tackle that? Add a load of noise insulation and more fans to counter the thermal insulation effect. Add to that somewhat ropey build quality (every one I saw had a buckled door) and you've got a less than perfect product. It is less than perfect because marketing feel it's easier to sell a cheaply built case with loads of features, than a plain-jane aluminium box.

But what else is required? A box, alloy, plastic or steel is silent. If you put silent components inside it, it will stay silent. A Super Lanboy will quite happily keep most powerful rigs cool with just 2 120mm fans. What on earth do I need 5 120mm fans and a 200mm fan for? I don't. And neither does anyone else. They are a marketing gimmick. Like the silicone feet on the Solo. Almost utterly pointless.

If you look at the evidence in front of you. I believe, on balance of probability, it is true.

Agreed.

The P180 is a great case. It has the versatility of being either a performance PC case, or a silent case.

Yes ok I admit it needs to be setup in the right way.The front door, steel plastic and then aluminium sheeting, coupled with noise dampening material means a quiet case. The 120mm fan locations mean great performance with either low or high cfm.

The overall design, with the front door dampening noise, and providing a sleek look is unique. Only lately have Lian Li starting doing this.

I think you will agree a P180 is much EASIER to silence than a PC7+. If you asked me now "212 build me a silent system!" I would chose the Antec P180 as first choice, followed closly by the Antec P150/Solo.

As for build quality, yes, the door and the plastic tabs where a pain in the ass. But what else?

Those issues can easily be resolved with Antec's top class CS.

I agree, what else is required? But this is what annoys me. People count this as "Great build quality". Ahem, what build quality? So they used only aluminium, so they rounded the corners off and made everything tidy? Looking at the Coolermaster 201, with one look I could probably make one myself. It was that simple, and that was the beauty of it! But when people say that equals to great build quality I get annoyed! Its because it has no features!

5x120mm fans I agree, is overkill. But 2x120mm in a Super Lanboy will not handle a crossfire 1900XTX system, unless you have some performance fans.

This is where the beauty of the enormous amount of fans comes in, just fill them all with Yate Loons at 5V and it will tame a 1900XTX system, with a Scythe Ninja ducted off to the 200mm if you want. But in all honestly, 5x120mm does seem a bit much.

Silicone feet make a difference on hard floors. On one of my old cases, which had Hi-Fi style feet on my wooden floor it would resonate when the DVD drive spun. It took me ages to realise it was the feet, to which I just put a towel underneath and it worked fine.
If you look at the evidence in front of you. I believe, on balance of probability, it is true.

You do law aswell? Hehe!

Antec aimed this case at the performance/Gamers market. They like lots of big fans, blue lights and something that looks like it will kill you if you threw something at it.

I think they have achieved that.
