Anyone had the snip?

32, no kids, seriously considering it as I never want them. (cue "You'll change your mind", yadda yadda).

What I will say is if you do it and you have ANY pain during the procedure ask for more local straight away. The first side was absolutely savage agony but got more local injected after that side and the second side was fine :)

My hubby had it done after the birth of our second daughter two years ago. He was 27 I was 24. I've told him about this thread so he can come and inform you all on his lovely experience :)

I had it done 4 years ago, 6 months after the birth of my 3rd child

For the sake of a little discomfort for a very short period I would say its definitely worth it for the peace of mind knowing there won't be any future surprises...

Having said that, I really wouldn't advise someone without children to get it done... You never know who you will meet, how your attitude to children/parenthood might change in the future.

bit late to the party but thought i would post my misfortune,

i had it done a couple of years ago now (about 3 months after my second and final daughter was born) unfortunately it didn't go well.

during the Op it was uncomfortable when he was injecting the anaesthetic into the second side, the actual opening and first side was fine, very little pain of discomfort until he started the second side. i told the Dr this and he said is was normal and added more to numb the discomfort, this didnt really help but it was too late to go back, following being stitched up all seemed OK, although a bit uncomfortable as expected, and i got a lift home.
i wore supportive breifs as recommended and all seemed ok until the swelling started, within 2 days my tesites were black/blue, the size of a large grapefuit and rock solid (it seems excessive in description but they really were that big), i kept the breifs on and started wearing 2 pairs as extra support and didnt really have any discomfort other then the pulling due to weight... this was fine until i went to the toilet and felt a 'snap' as what must have been one of the stitches tearing and the heamatoma started bleeding from out my scrotum, it was an odd sense of releif but very worrying at the same time, i rung NHS direct as it was about 9pm my wife didnt drive and i wasnt going to drive to the hospital and was told they would call back, i laid on the couch with a towel and ended up falling asleep. i ended up going to hospital the next day and was told it was an infection and given antibiotics.

2 years on i still suffer from testicular ache on a regular basis, nothing that stops me getting on with normal activities but still annoying.

some advice following the op as one thing they never explained to me is that you start getting random lumps in your sack that dissapear after a few days, somthing to do with the seamen but ive never had one long enough to worry.

If you really don't want kids then get it done now.
Means if you start a relationship your cards are on the table straight away.

If I'd been bleeding from my balls I'd been ringing 999 not NHS Direct!

I had vasectomy last year, I'm 42 with 2 children 9 & 11.

I don't want anymore.

It isn't a walk in the park at all.

Typical local anaesthetic, it goes numb when your sat at home an hour later!

The first nut wasn't so bad, the second was bloody painful.
Anyhow, off I trotted with my testicles in a net! (feeling sore) and walking like John Wayne.
Got home and necked 12 cans of Stella and I could still feel the pain (not strict NHS advice granted! :D)

A week later the tiny incision in my scrotum was oozing puss, I had a lovely infection!
After showing my testicles to a few more doctors I was prescribed anti biotics and that cleared things up.

Anyhow, almost 12 months since it was done and my testicles have never felt the same, they are 'tender'.
I get the occasional bit of pain/discomfort as a result.

Feels great to be sterile though, sex really is worry free in that department.

It's not pleasant IMO (others may say different).
But It's worth it if you are 1000% sure you don't want anymore children. - I didn't.

Wow! Virtually my experience in a nutshell.

(yours is worse however, I didn't get the grapefruit bit)

It seems common, its worrying that when I looked for cimmon issues before the snip and didn't find many, afterwards every time I read about it it seems something went wrong.

Still if I could go back I would still prefer to have the snip and be worry free... I love my 2 daughters but 2 is plenty for me.

Yep, plus all my previously gfs reacted badly in some way or another to the pill, and we all agreed that condoms feel crap for both parties.

This would also do away with the risk of a gf saying she is on the pill when she isn't with the aim to get knocked up.
