Anyone into RC?

I almost got an RC plane about 10 years ago, unfortunately the company I bought it from ran out of stock after I bought it so I only recieved the glo start, transmitter and fuel before cancelling. Guess who got to keep the transmitter etc. :D

The most fun part of RC cars however is dodging the speeding gravel, picked up as the car goes past you at 50+. Even 10 ft can be dangerous! :p

Realistically the most fun part is taking the car off road and flying it over hillucks and off jumps. :)

Ah yes I missed out the jumps.. can tell I'm not a RC car enthusiast :)

Shame they were out of stock! No need to go glow these days with the advent of brushless motors and LiPo battery technology. 10 years ago electric was a no go, the energy to weight ratio of batteries was no where near what it is today. These days if you are a speed demon electric aircraft can do +120MPH easy

This thread has inspired me.

Let's see if the Mini's ESC is still playing up:

Need to get it some new wheels and tyres. The last set of proper Tamiya ones have worn to the sponge. The set on now are way too soft, the sidewall bends right over and the wheels dig in to the tarmac and flip it a lot. :\

Cool little mini.

I had a slight crash with my FG resulting in this :(

I want to sort my XXX-S out but I don't have any working diffs, nor can I find any at a reasonable price, perhaps someone here can help me out? :)

I used to run 2 TT-01's with the carbon chassis, 1 27t Brushed for racing, and 1 10T Brushless with Lipo's, and a HPI E-Firestorm with a Mamba Max 5700, sold them all last year as i wasnt using them, moved on to R/C heli's now.

between me and dad theres a lot of models here.

2x step up brushless stingers
hpi mt2 and a hpi 18ss mt2
hpi brama10b with sand vipers stock motor
hpi savage 3.5 (ran over my tamiya sand viper and broke a part yesterday :P)
kyosho dbx just got today :)
tamiya sand viper with purple tiger 21 turn motor
twister hawk helicopter
concept 30 helicopter (guy from dads work gave him it)
2 wee henglong i think 30 quid choppers good fun and have gyros etc
another wee chopper a lot more expensive
2 henglong tanks yes the cannon's fire (bb guns with yellow plastic pellets)
dad got a tug boat and were building a corvette at the moment :)
think thats about it :)

as you can see we love radio controlled models :)

You reckon? My Schumacher XTR does 70+ mph and will accelerate to 40 in around 2 seconds. TBH it can be classed as a little too fast (oh it's a stadium truck, not road racer as well).:D

I also assume the 4 hour limit would be caused by the death of the batteries in the transmitter and servos.

You won't beat a brushless car, truck, buggy, truggy etc in terms of all out speed and acceleration.

Agreed i once raced a petrol touring car verses my 10.5 round stafford and it struggled to keep up. It was close down the straights but I had power availible anywhere in the rev range, a lot lighter and I flicked one switch to turn the thing on.

Brushless motors and Lipos are the way to go.

from all the videos i have seen it would seem that all mine and dads nitro's would be left standing by lipo's and brushless motors,

i need to get lipos for our step up brushless stinger's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoH9uxgs71o theres a stinger running 11.1 volt lipos on the same motor im only using nimh batterys on ours at 7.2 volts :(

think my tamiya is slightly faster with a 21 turn brushed motor on the same batterys and smaller wheels speed controller only goes down to 23 turns though but with the gearing its staying cool while stinger is 27 turns and brushless and barely gets warm:)

saying that though i cant wait to get the new kyosho dbx buggy out :)

waiting on a new engine for the mt2 and got to get the mt2 18ss engine sealed as there is too much air getting in the 18ss engine :)

that tamiya subaru looks sweet ive got my eye on a tamiya subaru in my local shop as im fed up wasting tires on tarmac around my house with off road ones:)

plus i enjoyed building the sand viper and fancy building another one :)

Is that all? With my truggy or buggy and 2 batteries I can run non stop. I have a 350w charger which will charge my 6500mah packs at 20 amps, meaning my battery charges in about 17mins and takes about 22 minutes to discharge in the buggy/truggy. They would whoop any Nitro in terms of speed and acceleration too.

If you want to play like that, I have 3 lipo 7.2 3700mah batterys with 6v regulators. A full charge will power my two ace ds1015 servos non stop for about 6 hours depending on road surface. It takes about 4 hours to charge one lipo.

So you go ahead and stop playing every 22 minutes to spend 2 minutes changing a battery if you want, personally I would rather like to play for longer than that.

Also, as far as speed and acceleration, have you seen my buggy? No, have I seen yours? No, so you are in no position to say which is faster. And there is no point in putting up a youtube clip of someone else as your are clearly saying that your's are faster than anyone else's even though you have no proof.

That said, you put up a couple of clips, so I will as well.

134mph.
This one is even faster.

Any suggestions for a nitro RTR buggy on a budget? Heard good things about the Hyper 7 Black...

What budget?

I have the hyper 7 (although it is upgraded beyond belief) and would not necessarily recommend any RTR. You could possible end up spending more on upgrades.

You can start off trying to do it cheap, that M03 mini kit was about £80. But then you need the transmitter and an ESC.

Then you find the plastic rings all need to be replaced with ball bearings and the friction dampers need to be hydraulic in order for it to be good.

Then you find you also want to fit the LSD and toe-in rear uprights and ARBs.

Then you wear out the tyres and break the half shafts, so you buy some more rubber and fit the upgraded UJs.

Now it cost £250.
