Anyone into RC?

So you go ahead and stop playing every 22 minutes to spend 2 minutes changing a battery if you want, personally I would rather like to play for longer than that.

The most economical nitro engines will get you around 10 mins of run time per tank, your having to refuel twice before I need to change a pack. I can run literally non stop all day until my transmitter battery dies or I kill my trucks. Once one pack dies I whack it on the charger and it will be charged before the second pack runs out.

you are in no position to say which is faster.

Having run nitros in the past for many years with top end nitro engines I know for a fact that brushless is far faster, my truggy used to run a Ninja MR-1 engine which was one of the fastest nitro motors availible. My brushless setups will kill any nitro out there.

And there is no point in putting up a youtube clip of someone else as your are clearly saying that your's are faster than anyone else's even though you have no proof.

That said, you put up a couple of clips, so I will as well.

134mph.
This one is even faster.

Both of those video clips are using exactly the same brushless combinations I run so they are very comparable to my cars. The first video is of a brushless car, so what has that added to your arguement? The second vid is of a tether car, they are tethered to the post in the middle and just go round in circles, they are useless at anything other than top speed, there acceleration is diabolical too.

And how long does it take to change your battery? I am going to take educated guess at about 2 minutes to change the battery and put the old one on charge. Would you say that is fair? I wouldn't of thought it would be any longer than 5 minutes any way.

Thing is, I can re-fuel in under 10 seconds.

So if running for 30 minutes, I have stopped, maybe 4 times, giving me a total of under 40 seconds of lost driving time.
If you was running for the same length of time then you would only stop once. Your pit stop is a lot longer than mine though so out of that 30 minutes you would have lost over twice as much time as me.

That is speculation. Unless you have raced every "nitro out there" you cant say that your set up is faster.

I am not saying that your setup is slow, it is most definitely faster than mine as my buggy is set up for acceleration and not top speed. As a result I wont get much more than about 40-50mph out of it.

Either way, I not going to start arguing with a fellow racer, so I apologise for my previous post.
It just annoys me when people say "mines better than yours". Its not better, its different. They both have their pros and cons.

Now, why don't you put up some pics of your buggy?
I would love to see your setup in detail as I have never done a brushless setup and I am try to make an RC boat that will be running brushless (although I cant even get the hull right at the moment). :(

But it takes literally 10 seconds to refuel my Savage, i don't even need to stop the engine, or take the body off.

Any suggestions for a nitro RTR buggy on a budget? Heard good things about the Hyper 7 Black...

HSP Bazooka all day mate, stronger and more reliable than the Hyper by far and cheaper. The Bazooka is virtually identical to the Kyosho MP.
Here's a vid of my old one.(b.t.w. The CheshireRC youtube name was from an idea that never came to fruition. Just so you don't think I am selling Bazooka's. :))

If you decide on one these, the forums and the people on them here are gold.
It is an Aussie site, they are mad for their RC, and a few of the guys there race the Bazooka's competively.
Link.

Also look at my other youtube vid of the Bazooka; the other cars in the background, desperately trying to be fixed, are Hypers. :p

I spend far too much money on this hobby. This is just a few of my toys. Also got 3 slope soaring gliders and use to do heli's but found picking up the pieces after every other flight a bit stressful.

And as for the brushless Vs Nitro debate I run both and have yet to see a brushless car out perform a nitro in racing conditions in like for like hands.

You can make a brushless very fast but you lose acceleration, torque and runtime. Yes you can gear down but then of course you lose speed and top end punch. Brushless does have a nice smooth power for dusty or slippery conditions and can remove the skill needed to put down the power of a nitro engine, I also think its only a matter of a year or two before brushless wipes the floor with nitro.

I have only had the hyper 7, so I cant really compare it to another on reliability. It would be nice if you could go in to a little bit more detail though.

I will admit that my standard RTR Hyper 7 just loved to break, even small leaves could take out the front end and result in a rebuild. Now that I have upgraded the vast majority of it and the severe lack of driving skill that I possess, I can quite easily hit things, like bins, kerbs, trees anything that could be an obstical I could hit. Because I have upgraded it though, nothing breaks any more and it is very reliable. :)

That looks like fun , would really like to find a track / club to do some racing but nowhere near me does it :(

Its expensive, but fun. have a look at this website, I would have thought that there is one not too far away. :)

Thanks for that website , looking to race (for fun, not competitively!) my Ansmann Vapor somewhere but looks like its all indoor stuff for Cambridgeshire. Will check out some abit further away.

I only do it for fun as well, still spent over 2k on upgrades and tools though.

Nice pipes those Jammin, I had a JP-1 on one of my Bazooka's.

Really isn't that much difference between the Hyper 7's and 8's.
Expanding on what I said somewhat, I guess reliabilty wasn't the best word to use. Basically the HSP Bazooka is a stronger and better build than any Hyper. imho

The two cars you can see in the background on this vid are a Hyper 7 and a Hyper 8 both out for the count and trying to be fixed yet again. This was the same story by the end of dozens of sessions a few summers ago.

I must admit, I have seen some quite badly damaged Hyper's, I saw one that got a jump wrong and twisted his chassis, owner wasn't very pleased.

In that pic it looks like the engine is at an angle. Is it like that to improve weight distribution?

Its lent angle is supposed to do three things. One is give the car perfect balance left to right. To lower the centre of gravity and what i've found to be the best benifit is to make the car more narrow. By leaning it over it can be mounted closer to the centre driveshaft which also brings the pipe in closer. The narrow design means that you're not constantly scrubbing off speed on jumps and landings.

Ahh, ok, I thought it looked a little thinner. I will have to post some pics of mine. I haven't used it all winter and I know it could do with a service.

Used to race with a local club when I was younger and loved it. All my mates moved away from the hobby so I packed up as wel which is a shame when I look back because I did enjoy it. I have been looking at he Traxxas stampede and wanting a blast on one so bad I have loads of off road places round my way to take one. Might have to go on my want list, at nearly 33 years old you would have thought Iwuld have grown out of this by now.

I'm 35 and have grown out of RC trucks............into RC planes and helis! Who cares about age!:D

That's how old i am but to me the hobby is just another way to meet up with the lads and have a laugh.
I find with electric racing you do get a very wide range of age group, my local club ranges from 5 to 67. With the nitro racing 1/8th scale rallycross i find the age group is more narrow with ages more around the 20 to 50 mark. Not really sure why that is but cost probably has a lot to do with it.

Have a look on the BRCA website and see what your local clubs have to offer. I've only been back into the hobby a couple of years as i stopped when 16 but the extra friends i have from going to different meetings and clubs plus the fun i have with it is worth every penny.
