Anyone into RC?

I planned on attaching one of those mini wireless spy cameras to one of my cars a couple of years ago but the one I bought was broken on arrival so never managed to do it. My ultimate aim would be to control a car by computer too. :D

With the camera you can use Machine vision software to do some cool stuff. Hopefully my Board will be supported directly by the leading software for this. Add some GPS and let it drive about on it's own :-)

I should also say these cars can be controlled using the accelerometer in the iphone/touch - awesome!

I always hack my cars to be computer controlled :-)

Here are the latest 2.

The 1st is based on a boggo cheapo car. I have installed my Serial Servo Board, a camera and a Bluetooth link. I can drive it about using my Logitech G25 which is ace!

Now for the next one, this is based on a Tamiya Mad Bull.

They will soon be controlled by a WIImote steering wheel. The MadBull will have a pan and tilt camera connected to a set of LCD glasses. An accelerometer on your head will let you look around while virtually sitting in the car.

It takes more time to paint them, then to actually do the hacking!

Have a look at my site's page about the board here http://www.botbuilder.co.uk/ssb.html Probably the coolest thing I have designed in a while!

BTW they are not actual products, just demonstrators for that board thing I was talking about.

How cool. About 6 or 7 years ago I was at a theme park industry trade show and had a demo of a racing game where about 6 rc cars (1:10 scale and reasonably quick electrics) were raced around a track, each with POV control and console style wheel and pedals. Used a fairly cumbersome VR (as was the fashion at the time) headset.

Was a great experience, side swiping other cars and finding the best line and would have worked well in parks but I haven't seen the company since so I guess they went bust. The kit was all heavy and bulky and I imagine the batteries then were not particularly brilliant.

Would love to try this out!

I've got a 3.3 Revo. Apart from the exhaust and LEDs its standard. I've not used it for ages though :(

I also have a cheap nitrotek condor pro with .18 engine.. it was my first r/c, but its 5 years old now and still going :) The tyres on the back are fairly worn now, ran it in RWD for a while :)

I picked up one of those Heng long rc tanks with built in BB gun cheap.

It comes in a flat colour, but the details are good, so I "weathered" it up a bit.

I will be fitting a laser sight, and mini wireless camera. My LCD glasses will be here next week - time to loads of fun!

I have a few electric RC's but would like a Nitro one, as I have never had one before can anyone give me some recommendations?

All my electrics are HPI and Schumacher do they make as good nitro's as they do electrics and can you get complete starter kits? Really after something for off road use in the fields around where I live quick, cheap and low maintenance :D

My bother has one similar to that. His is not a buggy type but a touring type with a scooby shell.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one. Like Yrkoon said, they are cheaply made and we found that the engine is a nightmare to start.

Anyone have any experience with this? http://www.nitrotek.co.uk/A3017T.htm#description

Looks pretty good for the price, thoughts?

That looks cheap, almost too cheap really. I'd be a bit dubious, it might be a good buggy but they must have skimped somewhere to be able to sell it at that price. Personally i'd avoid and go for something from one of the bigger manufacturers like HPI or Associated. They'll be more expensive but the quality would be much better

My Collection

With the exception of my FG 1/5th scale which lost control and smashed up majorly! I've not got round to repairing it as I've lost a lot of interest in this hobby over the years.

This is the upstairs of my garage which is only used for these cars!

Guess the cars?

Oh no Electric here, I'm a total nitro/petrol head!

I got an Acme Conquistador a few years ago. Bought from Nitrotek. Runs on nitro fuel. Have got it doing about 50MPH tops. Great fun..when it wants to play. Other than that just about every time we have used it, something has gone wrong. Centrifugal clutch has broken, stones breaking the metal gears, fuel clots. Also a pain to start if it hasn't been started for a while. Cost about £200 I think. So yeah, when it works, it's good fun.

Will try and get a pic up sometime.

Used to have a XB8 back in 2005. Spent about £1k on gear over 2 years then sold the lot.

Great hobby if I had the cash I'd do it again. I personally can't stand electrics I love nitro however.

Iv just delved in to the first few purchases of my first RC experience :)

Just purchased a Spektrum DX6i Full range 6 channel radio and PHOENIX 2.5 Plane/Heli RC SIM :)

Should be arriving tomorrow :)

Cant wait to get flying some planes.
