Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

xxxx has plenty of 3070s, 3060ti, fewer 3080s, and some 3090s. Some vendors also bring in the 3070s at least from time to time, I'd say at least once a day, you got to keep looking. OC has a staple 3090 stock. You'd pay ~ £720 for a good 3070 ( 3 fans, OC ) on both xxxx and other vendors. I managed to buy 3 x 3070s (returned one, expecting the other still), missed on another 2 or 3 3070s as they "disappeared" from my basket as I was trying to pay. Almost bought off a couple on xxx but shops are same price or lower and you buy new, so why pay inflated xxxx prices. Currently very happy with the EVGA 3070 XC3 Ultra, it says "OC 1770MHz" on specs, but it always runs at 1950MHz-2050MHz on my most demanding game, not sure why. It can run WoW at ~40% utilisation, Subnautica at 75%-95%, all at 4K. I believe it would struggle at 4K @ 120Hz, maybe the 3080...

Dude, you'll need to delete the vendor's names from this post ASAP. No competitor discussion allowed, I got ban-hammered for a couple of days for hinting about a retailer, so this post is way over the line the mods will allow.

If I want to get scalped, I'll take your advice.

ha ha only about 4 months too late. Typical BBC.

I have two pc's, one with a 2070s and the other with a 980ti. I was looking to upgrade the 980ti, however, having used it for so long and given the extreme prices, I have just been reducing some settings. So will wait now until things settle down. Im certainly not going to pay scalpers or hugely over the odds from retailers.

Dont take this the wrong way but had to laugh at having two PC's but then not wanting to pay over the odds. Most of us make do with 1. Although saying that there are 5 PC's in our house but only one is mine. Maybe I should have rethunked that first sentence. :)

Not even going there. I want a full valid warranty.

I know people here are mainly concerned with the higher end gpus, but out of curiosity, I've been following sales of the 1660 variants on a certain auction site, and I'm waiting for the first second hand one to hit £400 (including postage). At the moment theres an MSI 1660 super gaming X sitting at £370 with 2 hours to go (it says "opened, never used" whatever that means, they've tested or not?) so I reckon that could be a contender but we'll see when it finishes.
If it does hit £400 or over, its a real indication as to how desperate the situation is and could indicate it'll get worse (which I'm convinced it will).

If everybody buys a 6800 at £750 or a 6800XT at £900...

...then what do you think the price of the 7800 or the 7800XT will be?

It's not just about the here and now.

Indeed, I think the 3000 series is better priced than 2000 as sales were not at maximum they wanted.

I honestly don’t think it’s too hard to find if you use the discord sites.

I’ve had a 3090 fe 1399
6800 - 670
3080 zotak, 840
6800xt xfx merc - 860
3070ti ASUS oc - 540

and a couple of 3090s which I returned as they were garbage compared to the fe.

sold all of them all at cost price to happy folk but literally all I did was sit on discord and be quick on the draw. It’s crazy though that in the last week prices have gone up massively, last week 6800xts were going for 800-900 depending on card, now they are all around a grand

I hope you kidding, almost every link I did click on for partner cards was not even in stock when clicking within 3 seconds of popup, the only card I felt that was stocked in adequate numbers to give people a chance is the FE. Less drops but they are "bigger" drops.

To put this into perspective a recent drop at a certain curry place, was "five" units, and is probably 1000s of bots/people after those 5 units.

I do not understand why vendors do not set up a pre-order list rather than encouraging a "Grab it while you can." practice which generates so much negativity. It is all computerised anyway, it would be very easy to do.

Ive been waiting to build a PC since around September when it was time to upgrade my Mac.

Ive got £2,000 sat there and for the past month or so I've had £1400 of components in my basket waiting to add a graphics card but its just not gonna happen.

I nearly caved the other day with a £900 6800 xt but while id probably I've just sucked it up at £700-750 it was just to far past rrp.

I am starting to look at buying something else instead of a PC as the fruit based computer an a ps5 down the line is starting to make more sense.

I know you said "down the line"; PS5 situation currently is just as bad (almost) as GPU situation.

All the stock grabbed by bots and only consistently available on eBay at RRP + £300.

Ebay is full of scammers. I bought a 3080 and got burned for £1000, despite the so called "money back garuntee" Ebay customer service literally trolling me.

Theres been an increasing number of cards out there the last few days, including 6800 XTs for £770. I’d say the situation is improving a bit: it’s a good time to take a gander.
