Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

Well, I was giving up on a 3080, but having seen how much I can get for my 2070.....I am going to keep trying for an FE 3080, because once I flog my old card, it'll be a pretty cheap upgrade.

I just popped in to have (another) quick "lol".

Getting alerts now for £900 6800s and >£1000 6800xts.

You either laugh or you cry. I'm choosing to laugh. Ho ho ho!

Its madness isnt it. People are also paying near the £1000 figure for 3080's aswell. Heck even second hand older gens prices are the same as the release prices!!

The difference for me between getting a gpu now and say back in 2017 when vega 56/64 were released is the amount of scalping by private buyers. Vega was available in small numbers on release, indeed AMD were doing bundle deals to try and discourage miners. Now to get the GPU at MRSP (outside of known launch windows)you have to sign up to an alert of some sort in order to buy them before the scalpers have them up on ebay. I do feel sorry for people busy at work. I did manage to get a 3060ti FE on launch day for my nephew, but I know I was lucky compared to most and even AIB cards went in seconds. If people didn't pay scalper prices it would be easier. My nephew was moving from a Nvidia 980 so got a big increase, if I was on a 2000 series I would be sitting this out and waiting for the 4000 series.

I draw the line with consoles, i want both, but i'm not buying from Scalpers on e*ay and such out of principal. They took away my ability to buy either, and now they think they can hold you to ransom for a scalpy extra £200+, never gonna happen, not with me anyway. There are hardly any decent games for either console, it takes about a year before they have anything considering a choice, so i can wait. OC are 100% scalpers , they put their prices up on launch of a product, would never buy from them again.

You might even get a 4000 TITAN, AS NV are bringing them back.

I would hate to go without backup parts right now. That's why I'm not cashing in my 1080ti. I can't plug my Reverb into a stack of cash if something goes wrong with my 3080 and I have to RMA it.

I still have discord open now and again in the hope of grabbing an FE card, slim though the chances might be. However I have given up getting any other cards from pretty much all retailers as prices have gone above what I am willing to pay. The rainforest is probably the only place I might consider, if I get lucky as they seem to have them at reasonable prices now and again.

There's cards available at other retailers, just seen 3080,3070 and a 6800xt it's the retailer the card comes packaged in.
There over priced 1 grand for a sapphire 6800xt bought mine from overclockers for 930 last week. 850 for a msi 3070 unbelievable.... 3080s gone

Was holding out for a 3080 10GB but then I lucked out and found a really low price of £1300 for a brand new Gigabyte 3090 Gaming OC, a customer return with full warranty remaining (registered it and now have the full 4 years). 10% below Nvidia FE MSRP and 35% below the going market price for what is a very good and well reviewed custom card. Crazy.

I was (am) really against buying these overpriced cards on an emotional level, but my rational investment brain knows a good deal when it sees it and at this price and taking into account current market conditions it will hold value for a good while yet. I will very likely be able sell it for a similar price when Hopper eventually arrives and supply is once again terrible.

It runs everything maxed out at 4k 60fps and at least finally I can just get on wth gaming through my back catalogue now.

Yet there is a contingent of lazy, whiney cry babies, who expect everything to be handed to them ''spec me a pc'' type. No sympathy for the like, they get a 1050. Tuff luv, they need to man up and pull their finger out. Reactive enough?.

What on earth does that even mean?

What is lazy about wanting to easily be able to buy a GPU from a shop, like you would any other item like you would normally?

Man up and pull their finger out? lol what does that even mean? If you can't afford to spend every waking minute glued to your pc or phone because you have real life things like work and commitments then its impossible to source a new GPU.

Dude, why do you even respond to those kind of dimwit troll posts? I put him on insta-block the moment I read that nonsense.

It's probably just one of those people who were trying to check out with two trollies full of loo rolls and hand sanitizer this time last year.

one per customer doesnt work. found a post on social media, guy building mining rigs, u should see he has room rull of 3060tis 3070 and 3080. i mean hundred cards easy.
selling mining rights for 10000 to 12000 k depending on the amount of cards per rig.
i bet he has accsess stright to manufacturers. no way some one can order 100 cards from a shop.

In answer to the thread title; yes, I've given up. Not upgraded my main PC for 3 years or so now & the present market is a very sad state of affairs, but there's lots of back catalogue games I'm still to play so its's not all bad.
If the present situation doesn't improve though I can see myself losing more interest - there are other hobbies.

In simple terms..even you can understand, spend quality time researching where and when to apply your time, decide how much you can possibly afford, balance cost of component with ''mining returns'', if thats your bag, component or Pre-Built, loads of great Pre-builds around. The lazy, the useless moaners will always miss out. EASY...for some of us.

So I’m curious, all these people selfishly snapping up cards.....

what is the actual maths on this? How long does a 3060ti or 3090 take to pay for itself??

if it’s years of effort, ruining ppls chances to play games while destroying the environment by using absurd amounts of electric, they need to give their heads a wobble.......I really doubt their making decent money every month !

So using electricity to make money is destroying the environment, but using electricity to play games is okay.
I think you need to give your head a wobble, what ever that means!
Stop whining acting like gaming is so important and graphics cards are some how only for you and not for anyone that wants them for what ever reason.

1 x 3060Ti = £140 per month profit at current prices.

In reality it is variable as it depends so much on transaction volume (gas fees) and coin price... could be 3 months, could be 12 months... or never.

However when people look at 3-4 months for profit, their eyes glaze over and it is buy buy buy.

But really there is no risk to it (unless you are buying at way over RRP). I mean worst case is you will earn a bit, to at least cover the cost of selling it 2nd hand in the future if prices normalise again.

Best case is that you mine a load of bitcoin now, cash in to pay off the card, and then keep the rest and see if bitcoin doubles, triples, quadruples in the next few years.

i think the main reason is the expectation that Bitcoin could go even more stratospheric than it already has what with Visa/Mastercard/Tesla all recently giving it more validation.

If it does, the £5 a day you are mining now could actually be £20, £30, £40 a day.
