Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

Not sure about a Mac but on Windows all you have to do is set up a Nicehash account, download the miner software then install it and hit start mining. Then you just need a coinbase account link to Nicehash to move the BTC over and sell then a PayPal account linked to coinbase to withdraw the proceeds.

but what about eth and not btc

On Nicehash you mine eth but get paid in Bitcoin, your not really mining for yourself but rather selling your hash power and being rewarded for doing so in BTC.

There are probably better ways to mine if you're really serious and have a proper mining set up but if you just want to earn a few quid on the side here and there while not using the PC then it's ideal.

Not sure if serious... you think a mining rig in one room is going to heat an entire house? :D

You are right, it cannot heat the whole house. But my 3090 is mining away and we don't need the central heating on in the day (we are down stairs). My house is not large though.

I knew it was bad at the high end... but someone paid £170 for a 4GB RX550 at auction, and several others sold for £140-£150.

I bought one of the MM here ~12m back for a roblox build... for ~£30 delivered.

Just wow.

Ive given up for now..... spent the money i had put aside on a catback exhaust and torque mount and bushes for my Focus ST instead :p

I bought a 1070ti for £690

That's a joke... right Helen?

It is noticeably warmer in the room with 3090fe mining, Probably would be uncomfortable in the summer, 400w heater is pretty substantial if on 247
In the room yes... and the rest of the house? One room does not stop an entire house needing to be heated nor does heating one room with mining it offset the carbon footprint of the power used while mining.

Of course heating one room makes a difference, your boiler would need to use just that bit less gas to heat the house.

Yes, that one heated room out of entire home really compensates for the mining energy footprint in a meaningful way. Just... lol...

Do you understand how a computer works. It's a valid use to use a pc to add to the heating of a room.
If a pc uses 200w for instance a large portion of that is heat, then sound.
Mine keeps our dining room noticeably warmer than the other downstairs rooms when the heating is off.

Great logic... If a lightbulb uses 100w for instance a large portion of that is heat, then light. I'm sure we all agree the best way to heat a house is to have hundreds of 100w lighbulbs burning 24/7.

If your adding a wattage amount of heat to a room by mining you will use that amount less with your heating. So saying mining is wasteful is plain wrong if you're making use of the heat your wasting nothing.
So yes great logic. Simple maths really that your obviously not getting.
