Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

Because you are too lazy to provide a link... Scalping: The teens making thousands selling consoles online - BBC News :p

"Jake says he doesn't know how much money he's made from scalping - but the numbers are big.

"I honestly don't keep track. Maybe £10,000 since November," he tells Radio 1 Newsbeat."

10k in 5 months doesn't really seem like a lot, more like "casual scalper" status. However, you have to be an idiot to go public with this stuff... if you're going to do it then ffs keep it as quiet as possible.

Idiot. All it will take now is one email to HMRC and he is in big trouble. I don't suppose it occurred to him that he is supposed to pay tax on these earnings ( and it clearly hasn't since he doesn't even know how much he has made, which he would if he had to calculate the tax. ).

I think it's somewhere in-between casual and professional - If we suppose he makes an average of £100 per item (balancing cheaper items with bigger margin items) that would be 100 items. Enough to make him known to the couriers etc.
I mean let me put it this way, if I totalled up all the sale prices (not profits) of all the consumer goods (i.e. excluding houses and cars) I've ever sold in my life, I doubt it would come to £10k

It depends which part of the country you're in.

I don't even earn 10k within 5 months in my full time job. So that would be a professional scalper.

Or if it's another part of the country where the cost of living is much higher, then that scalper would need a regular job as well. So the scalping would be casual.

i'm still looking for a 3080 :/

got the vega 64 out yesterday and took the fan off to give the radiator a bit of a clean turns out despite blating it with air a month or so ago there was still some clogging with dust so i picked it out with tweezers and then blasted it with more air

unfortunately the card itself uses some funky hex/star head screws that i don't have a small enough bit for so i couldn't take the pump off to re-do the paste

If this is his first year of scalping and he classes himself as self employed or a business, he won't have to pay tax on his 2020-21 earnings until (iirc) 31 Jan 2022, so he won't be in trouble for a long time yet.

I'm sure these people are playing by the books.

No, of course they aren't. All I'm pointing out is that HMRC won't be knocking on their doors any time soon because as yet they haven't broken any tax laws.

And doubtless all the publicity generated by this will ensure that the featured scalpers hear plenty about their tax situation, giving them plenty of time to do something about it.

Yep, because HMRC is slow but they *might* get around to it eventually in their system. But to be honest this hasn't really gathered traction except with geeks. Others will have forgotten about it within 7 days.

Can someone explain why we have been waiting so long? So we've had a pandemic? Like the Chinese give a flying **** ! Probably a few weeks shutdown and that is it!

The prices the cards are going for are almost entirely based on an RoI in mining. With Ethereum at $2k and difficulty taking an age to adjust, that's not going to be any time soon.

Most cards seem to be selling at a break even price of around 7 to 10 months.

Similar to the last bullrun.

RTX 3080 makes £200 per month in profit!

How come eth difficulty isnt been ramped up like the old days?

When I used to mine in the 1070 days, it seemed every few months they did something to make it harder.

It is adjusting but slowly. It has doubled over the last 6 months (most of that in the last 3 months).

The price of ethereum has moved much more over the same period.

Even if difficulty doubles again over next 6 months (very likely to do at least that), these cards will be massively profitable.

What AMD and Nvidia should do is launch 4GB cards which are useless for mining ethereum and flood the market with them.
