Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I’ve pretty much given up for now. Just checking once or twice a week and usually in the evenings so I’m probably not going to get anything that way. I’m quietly hopeful that as lockdown eases and the better weather arrives demand for indoor items might wane. I doubt it but I can hope I guess.

Now that stores are open again you may get lucky if you visit one of the smaller computer stores with maybe some older models, assuming they do not have an online store also. I have been tempted to try a few local stores but currently my girls are on their half-term break so don't feel like I can go through the hassle of getting them dressed and tag along etc.

Just popped in this thread due to it appearing at the top of New Posts and wanted to see if the situation had changed since I gave up and sold my PC and bought a Series X back in February.

Looks like its actually gotten worse, I've said this before I think in here but again for anyone that might be thinking about it, selling my gaming PC and getting a Series X is the best gaming decision I've made. If you're thinking about it its worth it.

Oh, now there’s a thought! My immediate reaction was that it’s 25 miles to the nearest town of any size but actually that’s not true. We have a local repair shop and a local computer shop. Ordinarily I don’t tend to bother too much because online is usually significantly cheaper, but you’re right I have had the odd bargain in the past just from walking by.

I should add that I have an 8GB RX580 so I’m not entirely without. It’s starting to show it’s age though, especially on my 1440p screen. It tends to be pegged at 100% with the fans going a bit potty :) it works though.

have been seriously considering this myself. Especially with the all access pass. I’ve got a few things I play though that are PC only. Not much though.

Post us an update, might motivate others to try also.

Only game I miss on PC is Hunt Showdown, its on console but I'm waiting for them to optimise it for Series X, other than that there aren't any games on PC that I miss. I'm playing games I would never have played on my PC even though they were on PC. I know that makes no sense but for some reason I've been compelled to try different games and I'm loving it rather than just playing FPS multiplayer all the time which is all I seemed to play on PC.

I can guess the answer to this query, but why haven't AMD released earlier spec cards as they've been noticeably by their absence for months? They've released the 6000 series and nothing else. Now I know they're tied up with the PS5, Xbox and cpus, but surely I'd have thought they could squeeze in the production of at least a few 570/580/590, even 5500xt 4gb cards for the low end. I say 4gb, as the 8gb versions would attract the attention of the miners which would in turn result in low availability and high cost to the user, and these cards are perfectly able to game at 1080p, medium to high settings in most titles, so feeding the lower end of the market, after all, not everyone wants or is prepared to spend bucket loads on a card thats vapourware anyway.
Just a thought and Nvidia managed to release 1660 series cards occasionally, along with the 2060 cards, though they might have more spare capacity available to do so than AMD.

More just gone up for sale. I have to admit, it disappoints me knowing that the majority will just be scalped onto other sites. I guess that's the end of the forum deals then?

The current prices are hardly scalp-worthy. There are countless Sapphire 6700xt Nitro's going for £700 at scalper marketplaces. The AMD cards also aren't very popular with miners. I think most of these sales have to be genuinely desperate gamers.

I've checked a couple of local stores that have websites (but very low key), and they appear to be well aware of the current crisis and are pricing accordingly.

Mining got hit with increased dificulty last week. Miners waking up now. its all down hill from here. not that is totaly unprofitable,,,, just lower profits means recalibration in buying.

im waiting for another public give away. missed saphire card , totaly gutted. oh how i would love that deal. no mining intended.

This is going to damage the PC market forever.

I think I’m on my last GPU. It should last me a few years but after that I won’t be buying another. If I want to play games I’ll just get a console.
