Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I'm no crypto expert but I think decentralization is one of the main selling points.
For people
* with a pathological hatred of banks
* who love zero regulations or accountability
* think safeguards to protect against fraud, etc, are for wimps

They've got what the wished for. Mass adoption any day now... aaaaand your money is gone.

I wouldn't put anything in that I couldn't afford to lose, but then I don't expect "regulation" to protect my money in the stock market either. I could lose all the money I put into either one.

Not really, I mean im a 50+ year old, don't have a problem with banks or regulations proper straight shooter but my mate suggested Nicehash so I used it, in the space of 4 or 5 months it's paid for the new gfx card I bought and sitting mining on a night when I'm asleep. Now the money I saved on the card I've been able to spend on other stuff so if it makes sense to do it to this old fart I can understand whey every youngster and his dog is going it. I haven't used cash really for years these days anyway.

Hoping Elon can please continue to do his thing and flush these gpu into open market via a crypto sell off and let me buy a nice RT card. A prior multi year high is surely fair game for the worlds most volatile trillion sized asset. Sooner or later every free market tests the boundaries so I advise caution when paying premiums, I dont think asset price inflation in any sector is linear and so reliable that we have seen the last of any lower pricing.
On the other hand Taiwan has a problem with rising cases, a very important area for chip production so I'd guess effects supply also

It could go that way 50/50 at this point in time wish i had a crystal ball. :D

Aren't cryptocurrency algorithms all artificially hard (and thus power consuming) anyway?

Wouldn't mind if they were curing cancer with all those GPU cycles, but it's just wasted on a false problem :(

On topic; yes I've given up looking for a GPU. Would like a humble 3060 for the next couple of years, but I'm not prepared to pay a grand for one. Guess I'll wait on a 4060 instead...

Hopefully that won't be a grand as well. This may be the way every gpu cycle goes.

Just seen an offer for a 6800xt red devil and a gaming chair for slightly over 1200, which is slightly more palatable. Especially as my chair went wonky last week and the back refuses to sit up straight now.

ed: now sold out

I see that deal yes, I guess given the current climate not terrible, it's still a lot of money for a graphics card.

If my current GPU was broken maybe, but my 1070 is still going and I'm not paying that to upgrade.

I ended up jumping on it, not ideal but with the chair (which is actually meant to be a good chair and costs around £220 alone) i caved in. :o

it is crazy times on buying any GPU:), by the time the covid-19 pandemic finally over it will take a long time to get the product back in stock on the 30 series cards. Unless you wait for 2022 Nvidia new GPUs RTX 40 series
