Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

Watch ebay tomorrow for the listings to appear, they're obviously banking on miners being more picky about cards they buy with the LHR cards starting to circulate so betting on these going for a few hundred more.

A country has banned cryptocurrency so it has already started, the end of this mining hype. Soon these worn out cards will be on the bay

Disgusting prices, 3070 for almost 3090 prices, no way retailers are only making 10% profit with this BS prices.

I work for an independent computer shop and our suppliers can't even do a 3070 for close to £1000. So £1200 is less than we could sell a 3070 for.

People don't realise how bad the situation is.

Suppliers are getting scalped themselves so it's not their fault either.

The retailer gets blamed though. I'm fed up with it.

Guess the reason supplier wants £1000 is because that's what he can sell if for, by the pallet - to miners. one transaction and easier logistics.

Feel sorry for the indy shops being unable to get any supply for customers - I tried to use my indy and ended up getting one before they did.

Out of interest - do you get customers requesting a mining rigs or actively advertise you can build them?

Hope you have managed through the pandemic and things pick up for independent shops quickly.

I have tried to explain the AIB partners and their distributors are the prime reason for the pricing. But most people seem to think its retailers scalping for miners.

No requests for a mining rig. Although a few days ago a customer bought an HDMI cable and then mentioned he's building a mining rig. He said he's spending this months wages on a GPU and he'll buy another with with Junes wages.

Then why do some retailers manage it?
If you work for an independent then you are probably buying handfuls of cards at a time, so you are buying through distribution. I've also worked for smaller outfits like this and the pricing we used to get was about 5% cheaper than retail and in fact we had to buy from the "business" arm of "distributors" that also sold to end users, so you are buying from your competition. They have no reason to give you a big discount when they can sell to end users for double what they buy them from AIB's for.

OCUK are owned by caseking - one of the biggest PC retailers in Europe, they buy direct from AIB's. As do all of the other "big" retailers where they are buying pallet loads of cards.

If these big retailers are able to hit £700ish for a 3070 then obviously they are buying them below that, so that tells you how much your distributor is ripping you off.

I suspect that the size of the retailer plays a factor - the bigger ones may have better contractual agreements in place. eg. if you are an e-commerce giant, or are a big retail park chain
So while some retailers end up having to pay whatever is being asked for at the time, those bigger ones may have a longer term supply agreement in place that would have a specified price and rate of supply.

Not that the near RRP prices really make any difference - I've been up in the early hours of the morning waiting on stock drops, hitting f5 on the page every few seconds, yet even with all my details saved, they are still unavailable by the time to get to making payment stage. Over the last few weeks I've managed to get various 3080s, 3070s and 6800XT in my basket but then can't complete the checkout. While I'm still holding out hope that a founders edition drop might offer a chance, I think I've given up on pretty much every other avenue, either through the insane prices being charged or the fact that it is just impossible to compete with the bots when the retails seem to make no effort at all to stop them.
Realistically I think I need to make peace with the fact that I'll have to put my new build plan on hold for year or so.

They are ridiculously priced- but is this all a part of their deal to give long term forum members big discounts on that price? Or is that just standard take it or leave it pricing?
