Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I've lost all sense of what "normal" prices actually are, so when they even do come up for sale I don't know if it's a good price. Can someone summarise what approximate prices we should be looking at if things were relatively normal. Obviously due to demand, then paying slightly higher prices is expected, but it's hard to understand what the prices should be as when you go to the websites, because everything is out of stock, often the prices are not even listed so I don't know how much more say a 3070 should be over a 3060ti.

Also, if OCUK are going to get stock, what is the procedure for getting on any waiting list, or is is a free for all and open to abuse from bots and scalpers? Is there any priority access for loyal OCUK customers who have shopped with them for years, some over a decade? Or loyal forum members?

I think from what I had read that some AIB cards range from £50-£150 above FE prices but these are quite inflated just now as expected.
I think OCUK said they would put up a thread stating when they would be up for sale but other than that, A free for all.

Its that bad just now that old cards are going right up in price. My brother bought a new RX580 in March last year for £140, Shops are now selling the same card for £280.

Is there a separate thread for 6800 series card updates? I saw the launch thread but it’s not been updated in a long time. Is that still the thread to watch?

I'm still using my 1070Ti which does me fine currently. Looked at the 3090FE the other day for about 10 seconds, calculated what else I could get for £1,400 and honestly laughed. Unless doing professional work I really cant see how anyone could justify one solely for gaming.

I wonder how hard it might be to set up a group to buy a bunch from wherever the main distributors are in the world.

Used to do this back in the day on car forums, "group buys" someone who had contact with the supplier took the pennies from the people interested in the part and sorted the order out, took delivery etc

Lots of trust and risk involved though and probably need big numbers for GPUs

I suspect it would have been done already if it were possible. Then again...maybe nobody tried. I suspect finding a few hundred people willing to pay a slightly inflated price but still reasonable, would be relatively easy?

Saw that. Dodgiest looking website I have seen in a long time, and that was before their crazy mark-up.
Managed to get a PNY 3080 today for £820, silly amount of money for GPU imo but hey ho. Got order confirmed, they then cancelled my order and told me "sorry our mistake was out of stock" yeah right I literally saw it go live in stock @ £828. They then pumped up the price to £1080 (LOL price) and re-listed it, some mug bought it also. This is what we are dealing with.

Exactly, it will still sell at that price, crazy to think £828 is no considered on a low price now. I've only seen resellers struggle to sell 3080s at £1400. I'm sure at that price they know their taking the pis$$ and it will come down slowly.

Yup, just no point now, although i might have needed a one after today, as well as some other stuff, as my PSU went :p

Turned the PSU switch on to get her booted, made some crackles, wouldn't fire up, did the cardinal sin, unplug, replug, try again, eventually came on, rig booted, popped downstairs for a bit, by the time i came back up, rig had gone off, PSU was deed.:p

Good job i had my old rig with a Corsair AX860w in it, so i just swapped it over, and to my surprise, it booted up fine, no messages about wasn't shutdown properly, nowt, just booted straight to my desktop, like nothing had happened, phew! :D

The PSU was a TT Toughpower, RGB 850w Grand Sync, which id only had for 15 months, so luckily still under guarantee, but i'll be steering clear from em, and sticking to me Corsair for now.

Remember all, if your PSU goes dodgy, just get it swapped for another straight away, or you might not be as lucky as i was, with everything else still working after a swap

I do not know. A few years ago I used to bring in cheap merchandise from HK and China, p*ss easy, almost all through Whatsapp, lots of people in HK (then) and China ready to do business. Got to talk to them at 4am but that's a small price to pay. very civilised, polite, nice people to do business.

Out curiosity, I was following 3 x second hand 1660 today, a 1660, 1660super, and 1660ti, ALL went for over £300, the ti went £316, and they were all plus postage of whatever was quoted. Thats basically, on average, 50% price increase over the 1660super I bought last October for £209 which was BRAND NEW!
And I've said many times before and I'll say it again, its gonna get worse folks, if the miners get going again like they did a coupla years ago.

In other words "We're all DOOMED"

Why the hell would you buy a 3080 to mine crypto though. Much better with a 3060.

You know it's bad when you see an R7 280X 3GB at 200 Euro.

If the mining boom bottoms out again, there will be a FLOOD of cheap GPUs
