Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

Not given up, but in need for a 3090 and the chances of getting one at MSRP is looking slim. May have to get one from ebay for £2000, which is at least £500 cheaper than buying it from overclockers right now

They start at £2099 on OcUK which is cheapest out there and you get a full warranty.

The cheapest I can see on OC is £2189? Unless you're including OC prices of things they're not actually selling, which doesn't really count.

Can buy new cards for £1850 elsewhere, usually with warranty (as long as the seller included the original receipt, which they almost always do, then the warranty is still valid).

Sure, there are people trying to sell cards for £2500, but you can pick up cards for under £2200 pretty consistently.

Of course the Ebay cards run the risk of being dodgy or faulty, which means you'll have to return them and get ebay to refund you, which is a chore. But then if the card you get from OC is faulty you'll also have to go through pretty much the same amount of effort to get a refund, so there's basically zero difference. I've had more issues with OC returns in the past than I have with ebay. And OC is, as I say, £300 more expensive than the scalpers.

So while I absolutely hate the idea of giving money to the scalpers right now, giving more money to OC for the same cards isn't better. If anything, its worse, as OC are (I assume?) buying the cards direct from the manufacturers at wholesale rates in bulk.

May I be the first to call b*llsh*t on saying buying second hand from a well known site is comparable as buying new from OC who have been around for years! Its like saying buying a car second hand with the risk of getting a lemon is the same as going into a dealership and getting one new.

Just logged in, your not seeing the ones at £2099 because they have now sold out. It was the Palit Gaming Pro none OC model at £2099, they have now sold. The next cheapest is the GameRock that you are seeing at £2189.99 which has now started selling now that the £2099 SKU has sold out.

If you can find these cards for £1800, buy it is my advice!

They both new cards, in unopened boxes. It's not like you're comparing a new OC card against a 12 month old gpu that's been tortured in the mines. So your comparison is invalid.

What is the difference between unopened box and opened box wrt to price on that site?

Usually opened boxes go for less money, but with the current market the prices are all over the place. Sometimes people are trying to sell opened, used card, that have been modded -and- used for mining, for the same price as a new sealed card. Crazy times.

But I have to stop this conversation here, as my account has been locked due to a 15-post-per-day limit. Probably breaking a rule by posting on this throwaway account, but a 15 post limit is stupid anyway, and I didn't want to seem rude by suddenly blanking in the middle of a discussion.

Hopefully can continue the discussion tomorrow (or, at least, 15 posts worth of a discussion).

Ah 15 posts - going to take a while for you to get access to any new forum created for discount codes! Mind you I am in the same boat - no VR for me for quite some time I think :;

My point would be if an unopened box goes for 100s more than an obviously used card then some people are going to ask themselves can they put the card back in the box and shrink-wrap the whole thing again? You cannot really know what you are getting but at least if you buy from a site such as OC they have a reputation to protect. It is not like these cards have some kind of tachometer on them telling us how much use they have suffered.

It's generally quite easy to tell a used product from a new one. Most boxes aren't sealed with basic shrink wrap, they use security labels which can't be peeled off and resealed (not without a lot of difficulty anyway), and the things inside the packaging usually are rolled/packaged in ways which means getting it back exactly as they were is also extremely difficult.

Not saying it can't be done, but I've had people try it on me a couple of times and they were caught out (and I got a full refund, and in one case I got the refund from ebay and still kept the product). It was obvious on both occasions.

This is doubly true for cards that have been in a rig and mined on for months. No way they're putting that all back in the original box perfectly.

It's possible in cases where they've literally opened the box for photos, and then put it all back again straight away. Some people are doing this for photos, but personally I'd probably prefer a sealed box still.

To be fair i think it would be impossible to pull it off flawlessly unless they dissasemble the card and removed every ounce of dust from every nook.

So if someone buys a scalped card originally bought from OC on that site and then it fails - are OC legally required to honour the guarantee with the new owner or just the original buyer? Not asking to be an a**e - genuinely do not know.

My initial reaction to the o/p was that claiming on a guarantee as the new owner would be tricky - can't get a refund to the original card.

Scalpers are just being stubborn now, there's pages of GPU at silly prices that obviously aren't selling, retailers have priced them out (raised prices), miners are getting their own tec.. someone tell the scalpers that the war is over !!!

Considered buying the card at £2100, once I looked back it was gone, a shame.

Speaking of which - anyone had any experience with the Palit gaming pro? Reviews are not easy to come by for it.

My 2080ti and my 1080ti were both Pallit cards. I was really impressed to be honest and so much so I bought the same model/type card when I went from the 1080 to the 2080. Beefy cooler that was barely audible and fans never went about 55%. You couldnt hear it running even under load. I got a TUF 3090 but only because it was there and choice is a luxury at the minute. Would grab one again though no problem.
