Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

So glad I gave up on GPUs and switched to console gaming. Its been much more fun and hassle free. I can't really tell the difference between high end graphics settings anymore, so it makes little difference. I think it was more significant if you went back 10-20 years.

I currently have £4K lying around to spend on whatever I feel like. It's completely spare money. I will not be spending it on farcically overpriced products in order to increase the record profits of a few companies because a flawed and completely unsustainable economic system heavily promotes predatory behaviour and has resulted in a hyper-fragile manufacturing and supply system that's too fragile to handle unexpected changes.

Hint: Not being a mug isn't the same as not being able to afford to be a mug.

Completely agree. Same position here.

Is that £2.5 AFTER electricity prices are taken into account for electricity use?

With electricity prices going up by 20 or 30% in the last couple of months, surely mining isn't profitable now?

At my current price it would be costing about 70p a day to run, so that would still be over £1 a day profit. Even if I add 30% cost it's still a clear profit, and then if crypto goes up over time that's more on top.

Even a 1070 makes profit at triple my current electric price.

A gtx 1660 makes a profit at 4 times my current electric price

https://whattomine.com/gpus?cost=0.84&button=&nvidia=true&amd=true&filter=all

Do people seriously not understand how much the profit is compared to electric? Electric is pennies and these things are making £ per day

Even at 6 times my current electric price 90p per kwh it's profitable

https://whattomine.com/gpus?cost=1.26&button=&nvidia=true&amd=true&filter=all

My house leccy bill is about £1 a day for non mining tasks - Adding mining cost could just mean I'm mining for nothing. 3080Ti coming in but not sure now if I should just return it, rather than side use it for mining.

Bought it for gaming but I'm looking at mining, might not do it but I'll see.

I've not mined before properly, so not sure of how it all works :)

Don't use nicehash. If you do decide I can show you how to set up your 3080ti for dual mining perfectly. I'm getting 40Mh/s on Ethereum and 160Mh/s on ergo at the same time. More profitable.

That was before, for me, but if I were to include it it would've cut only ~$0.3-0.4 into it. Keep in mind that $2.5 is for half a day because it would be used for other things the other half. Electricity is cheap even in the most expensive places and mining efficiency for the newest cards is high. Regardless, when you do the math it's clear just how much you can "lose" by going streaming instead. People might think they're getting a good deal in these times but in reality they're just making Nvidia even fatter margins instead of doing it for themselves.

wow, you guys pay a lot for electric. I swapped to an electric car and pay 12p per kwh all day long (EDF).

I'm another +1. If I could get a 3080 at msrp then I would buy one. I could easily afford one at the silly prices but I'm not that daft to pay scalper prices from anywhere.

Plus I don't want to mine. If I was getting paid to Fold at home or other worthy causes then I would think about it.

I just class crypto as another Tulip mania

Haha. Well thats a relief, who wants to hear about people making £1 or £2 a day and so on and so on. It's a yawn fest.

The returns people have given make me less inclined to buy an overpriced card to mine. The way people talk about it makes it seem actually decent, but just doesn't seem like it in reality for me.

Moaning in this thread is way more profitable :D

Shame that 6500 card is going to be released on the wrong side of xmas, it's more of the type of card i'm looking for.

my wages have nearly tripled in 7 years, but that's a different story.

The component price inflation has very little to do with wages. The world economy is fueled by debt - your wages did not go up but the amount of debt you can borrow has increased hugely

No it hasn't. I've always had a really good credit score but I claimed a covid grant and now no one will lend to me

Too much salt in this thread.

Stop blaming capitalism because you can't afford a GPU upgrade. Especially when you clearly have no idea what free market capitalism is. Hint: without it there wouldn't be any GPU's to buy as they wouldn't exist.

Capitalism doesn't make products bucko, workers do.

Technological advancement isn't inextricably tied to capitalism, and the version we have isn't a free market in any sense. It's late stage capitalism where the corporate monopoly reigns supreme.
