Anyone non-panic buying?

I think we have found another turnip farmer. Are you all turnip farmers or just you know whaters?

Turnips man, turnips.
Just so you know I don't like turnips.

What is you know whaters?

I have not actually given my opinion whether Brexit has had an effect on this situation, it may well have done. I was just pointing out the arguing in bad faith, which happens quite a lot.

I actually don't know why I got involved in this thread, try to avoid these types usually as its just a roundabout of playground insults.

First they came for the tomatoes.
And I did not speak out.
Then they came for the onions...
Then they came for the leeks... etc, etc...

Part of it is the toxic behaviour exhibited from both sides. Stop claiming a sense of superiority and maybe others will join suit. Maybe… :D

Perhaps if people didn't continue to exhibit their stupidity people would stop pointing out how stupid they are and the stupid people might realise how stupid they've been?

The onion shortage, not a UK problem but a global one. Onion costs more than meat in SE Asia, it's not even news, it's like a month old.

To which the solution (from a UK perspective) will have to be either suffer seasonal shortages or pay higher prices than those involved in more efficient EU supply chains with greater economies of scale.

So yeah. It's a global problem. One which the UK will again suffer the ill-wind of Brexit.

I mean tomatoes, fine, I could live without them but I don't want to.

Leeks, now we're going to have a problem. Quite a serious one.

But onions? Onions are the staple base of every meal I make. No onions = war on the streets.

Well, turnips were a big part of food in this country for a long time. They're still very popular in the middle east, especially Turkey. They love their turnip juice over there [salgam]. It's actually pretty nice.

but right or wrong..... this should not have been a decision for the average Joe on the street (Inc me) this should have been down to experts.

to me you know something is wrong on any topic when the argument against it is we are done listening to the experts (and this was part of the brexit line).

if I go to the hospital for an op I am gonna want experts making decisions on my health.
so why would I not want experts in the field deciding massive economic decisions like this ?
I don't think experts should have decided. It was right to put it in the hands of the voting public. If we left it in the hands of experts then who decides what criteria they are judging it on? Many people voted to leave accepting that it may not be the best thing economically but wanted to do so for other reasons (immigration, perceived sovereignty, etc - whether those views were right or wrong). So it was right that each of us had an equal vote, because each of us may have a different reason for voting to remain or leave.

I almost voted leave but after a lot of consideration and thought I actually voted to remain. I'm glad I did and it saddens me greatly that we left. I also think it was foolish to leave on such a narrow majority. In my opinion there should have been a threshold for a decision and anything below that threshold should have triggered a second referendum several years later to confirm the first. But naturally I would think that because I was on the losing side.

The whole thing was caused by Cameron trying to save the Conservative's skin by allowing a referendum to avert UKIP's rise. I don't believe he expected the nation to vote leave.

Luckily I have a net of onion setts, a net of red scallions and a packet of (approx 100) seeds for Onion galacticus

I should be ok by late summer ;)

there's a specific brexit thread, for archaeological discussions.

leeks in js have been from Turkey for weeks, existing ones everyhwere already expensive and poor quality, so had abandonned them
- sprouts, conversely despite storage are still ok (exclusively british afaik)
wonder how many people look.

I voted Brexit but I think it was the wrong thing to do. I was coerced by various politicians and I should have known better. I honestly cannot see one benefit to it. The whole thing was a mistake which sprang from a gamble by Cameron. What I find sad is that a lot of people who voted Brexit will not admit that it's been an utter failure and will do whatever they can to save face. They convince no-one, barely even themselves.
Got to agree with this, although I sat on the fence throughout as I couldn't make my mind up and felt too ill informed so didn't even vote. Too many complex issues and everyone involved seems to have made a pigs ear of it so far.

Phwoar
Come on man, some of us are at work and aren’t allowed to look at such NSFW content. Whilst they are stunning, I’m reporting your post for adult content.
Phwoar, as I said. I’m going for a cigarette and a lie down to recover.

Many people were dictated by what **** the Mail and Express were churning out. Yet believed every word “oh it’s in the paper so it’s true”.

Another reason why over 75s should be banned from voting. You don’t serve on jury after 75.

Thid still gives voters 57 years to vote - 11-13 GEs, depending on when you first vote for GE or if have a snap one like in 2019.

Leeks will be fine, one of the buyers said they are in good supply.

Onions though, you can get them, but prices will be higher than normal. Back on Tomatoes, the situation should improve towards the end of March with the temperature warms up, the Dutch season starts early April so it will improve quite a lot by then.

Instead of eating lots of Turnips...broad beans or Hispi cabbages is in season.
