Anyone seeing car insurance pricing increases?

2022 = £161

2023 = £163

But i have never made a claim in over 20 years and no convictions, plus the car is a 2006 1.4 16v so not worth much.

Yep my dad's has gone up. Went from about 460 last year to the same insurer wanting about 680 this year! We went online and did usual comparison sites and they all came back about 540ish. We then did a new quote with current provider and it was 569 direct with some addons. So we've let the policy lapse and taken out a new one. Ridiculous. So not quite as bad, but still about 100 more than last year when no circumstances have changed.

Except the cost of repairs to the car will likely have increased.

Insurance will come down as you get more NCB however there must be a point where it can't really come down any more and, instead, increases due to repair cost increases (labour and parts for example) with all other factors remaining the same (address, vehicle etc)

Mine went up 35% so I rung and got it down to match quotes from Confused and Money Supermarket. It wasn't quite the same but random companies popped up so stuck with current at the reduced rate.

9 years NCB, no convictions, 2009 grey 1.9 Octavia estate in grey (so literally the most boring greyest car possible) and mine is almost 3x that... but then I do live in Birmingham

Admiral joined the jokers club today. Last year's premium for me was £438, which was already up from £420 the previous year. Renewal quote received today was £558. 10 minutes on compare the market and I'm now paying £399 with Tesco Bank.

I didn't bother phoning those ***** at Admiral but cancelling online they gave me a "better" offer of £518. Absolute clowns.

Funny you mentioned Tesco (although this seems to apply to all insurers) - one thing I have noticed is strange is how 2 almost identical cars can have significantly different premiums.

By almost identical I mean same registration year/make/model/trim level/engine/colour. The only tangible differences being the registration number, mileage and exact date of registration.

Looking at Kia Niros as an example, quotes from Tesco:

Kia e-niro, 64kwh, trim level 3, 70 reg, silver.

Random reg from autotrader = £456
Reg of my car = £782

:confused:

£279 last year, just had a renewal for £389. 19 years NCB and never claimed. Thought I would try the comparison sites and the cheapest came back at over £500. God knows what has happened, guess I will have to lump it!

Just checked what mine will be in a couple of months time at it looks like £155 to £175 - which looks an outlier, most are about £240-£250.

They changed the rules recently to prevent insurers jacking up rates for "never changers" to allow cheap deals for new customers, so looks like that is having a significant effect.

(And cumpulsory excess seems to have gone through the roof for a lot of them as well).

My Churchill policy renewed today, was £250 last year and gone down to £199 this year, was pleased with that as the comparison sites were a decent bit more expensive. This is for a 06 Golf GTI.

My insurance is strangely high this year.

S5 hasn’t gone down at all, despite another years no claims and driving experience - £1700 odd for the year it’s coming out at

Second car, a Fiesta, is £600 with a black box, or £800 without one. This is quoted with my no claims too, as the S5 is going.

My car insurance set to go up by £150 by auto renewal. Done a quick quote and found a different insurer which is inline with what I paid last year.

The new one is from Hastings Premier. Anyone used them?

Also can the existing insurer come down or it's set price?

Used hastings in the past and pretty sure I'm with them now (it's either them or aa, can't be bothered to double check lol)... they're fine, can't say I've had issues, but don't think I've ever had to claim from them (touch wood) so no idea how that would go, but I doubt it would be much worse than any other insurer.

Can an existing insurer come down, assuming it's on renewals, yes it's part of the 'renewal dance'... you get some quotes which are lower, you ring them up saying you want to cancel because you've found a better price and they say let me check if I can get it lower, they 'magically' get it lower... it doesn't always work out they're cheapest though but sometimes it's within a few quid and saves the hassle of moving etc.

Super easy to update details using their online platform if I remember correctly. Admiral smashed them when it came to renewal time, but then this was last year. Curious to see what mine comes to in May.

This is what happened to me on the Direct line thread on the forum on Saturday. They can come down. Copied and pasted here if anyone is interested.

Lol got my renewal quote from them this morning and they wanted £273. which has gone up from £212 last year. Phoned them up and basically told them they were taking the pee. After some back and forth the new quote for this year is £204. I call that a result on my part. I could have got it a little cheaper else were but could not be bothered with all the hassle.
