Anyone sleep with a weapon?

Being Asian, If someone wanted to rob my house, Id just keep them in the house, and let my 8 cousins who are living with me, try to sell him something that he dosent need.

You just don't know how you'd react to an intruder. Most crooks would probably just try and bolt and most victims would lock their kids/other halves in safety or try and protect rather than attack. I know I could inflict a lot of damage onto someone but I'd rather just make them aware that I know of their presence and get them to scarper. No point in attacking people, self defence is another thing altogether.

If you're sensible about locking doors and windows and are of decent quality most people would move onto the next less secure home, certainly if you don't leave things on show .

Ultimately we don't know how we'd react. The more imposing you are the more likely the crook will try to flee even if you aren't a monster most don't want to raise their crime to aggravated burglary. If they are armed and threaten you Goodness knows what the outcome is. Fighting fire with fire leaves one person burnt, and isn't always the answer.

Adrenaline has a different effect on people :)

I would expect the vast majority of thieves to run like hell the moment they realise someone is moving about up stairs. Plenty of things to grab in the house if I felt it necessary, but a knife would be the last thing I would reach for as running around half asleep with a sharp object probably wouldn't end well :D
 
Quite the response, I should clarify a little more. My brother is 16 and lives with my mum, step dad and other brothers and sisters. Its a nice neighbour hood they never had trouble at all. It just makes him feel safe like I guess when children have blankets or a teddy in bed.

Though I have thought about the possibility of an intruder breaking into my house and what I'd do.
 
I thought that if you sleep with a weapon ready and then use it to defend yourself then thats illegal. But if you pick up a weapon on the way to investigate whats going on then thats fine.


I wouldn't sleep with one anyway, I think I would only actually use it if I was seeing red, and then I wouldn't be able to control myself and regret whatever happened.
 
Absolutely not. I'm sure I've read numerous stories where people simply end up getting beaten by the "weapon" they had ready.
Get yourself into a room, barricade and call the police is my "weapon" of choice.
As long as the family are safe everything else is replaceable - no point trying to be a hero.
 
Not saying that I built one, but one of these could be very useful if the situation arises.
