I'm hoping...rather expecting my x5v7 to allow me to bring my new Rift into the living room for the bigger space.
I am curious how it will stack up to my 4.8ghz 6700k+gtx980 WF3.
The 1070s should stomp the 980s. But it is the laptop model....

Nvidia dropped the idea of laptop models a long time ago. The gtx 1070 in a laptop is the same gtx 1070 that you will find in desktops. I use my X5V6 with a htc vive and its a brilliant experience :).

Almost, this applies to all but the 1070.

The 1070 mobile GPU has 2048 Cuda cores @ 1443 - 1645 (Boost) MHz
The 1070 desktop GPU has 1920 Cuda cores @ 1506 - 1683 (Boost) MHz

Overall these differences make little to no actually difference in use.

ah seems they made a little tweek here and there but are effectively the same. I knew they performed within a very close range of the desktop but thought that was souly down to a smaller thermal envelope.

Have a question regarding storage for anyone on here but will also cut in @Atom80 in case nobody knows.

To start this is how i have my system configured;

2x256 nvme drives in raid 0 for boot / few games / my shadow play caches to here. due to the write speed increase from the raid. (can finally record without issues)
1x120 nvme drive for one game on it's own ( star citizen ) & my shadowplay recordings get saved to here once i hit save they get pulled from the raid array and transferred to the standalone drive.

and the standard 1tb drive. This has a large chunk of games on it, a large chunk of media and some typical backups. But this is now getting very full. I am looking in the future at investing into a Nas but for now i want to solve the problem more locally within the system. So i am looking for the largest 2.5" drive that will fit in the system. The reason i say " fit in the system " is i know that there are now very large 2.5 drives but are 1.5cm thick.

TL;DR Could anyone give me any confirmation on the maximum drive height for the 2.5" drive so i can find the largest capacity available.

Hmm
@Atom80 Any word on when ocuk will have more x7 dt v7 stock?

hi - we have chased courier this morning, as the goods left HQ on Friday - our records are showing goods are in clearance with customs, and haven't been released yet - there has been a delay as they should have arrived at OCUK on Tuesday.

We will continue to look into why, and try to push,

Thanks.

Well, got my x7v7 cf2 from OcUK a couple of weeks ago, can only be positive about the laptop and service from OcUK and Aorus on this forum. The laptop itself is brilliant, great design and has been running wildlands perfectly smooth on max settings. Had to update the drivers as the track pad was acting unusually but after that no issues. Haven't tested battery life as it's usually plugged in but did notice wildlands was not smooth when on battery. Laptop just about fits in the samsonite 17.3 qibyte laptop case too. R.

I've had an absolute mare with build quality issues from Dell, resulting in a return of an Alienware 15, and now an XPS 15 (they're problems that they've told me are within their QC limits, such as extreme uniformity issues, a very visible white bar round the border etc).

I've looked at Aorus as a potential candidate, but have some questions first:

What's the trackpad like? As it'll be one of the most used parts of the laptop, it needs to be good. The XPS is what I'd consider acceptable, with noticeable skipping when used tap to click. The glass surface is better than macs, however.

How is battery life? I don't want to be reliant on a charger 24/7 when performing easy tasks. I accept it'll differ across different models, but I'd super appreciate some different opinions!

Thanks :)

If you're looking at gaming laptops and worrying about battery life... you're doing it wrong :p

With something like the X7 DT you're looking at around 4 hours if you're literally barely using it... half that for "normal usage". Plus without mains power, performance will the massively impacted if you're gaming (for all 20 seconds of it) :D

Nvidia's optimus technology has proven to be effective on laptops for me before, however. Some of Gigabyte's stuff has great battery life with 1060s

I'm not sure the GTX 10 series support Optimus, may be wrong though!

I thought they did - I'm sure the XPS 15 advertises it to increase its battery life when not performing difficult tasks

It has nothing to do with the 10XX series, but whether the laptop has G-Sync or not; G-Sync and Optimus are mutually exclusive, so you can have one or the other, but not both (with the only exception being a MUX that would let you toggle one option or the other, but that's rare and not available on the Aorus machines). Since the Aorus laptops have G-Sync, you're not going to have Optimus. Depending on what you're doing with the laptop and what mode/profile you're using, you'll be looking at 2-4 hours worth of use, unless you're trying to game on the battery, in which case probably closer to 1.5 hours.
