Aorus Owner's Lounge

Well, got my x7v7 cf2 from OcUK a couple of weeks ago, can only be positive about the laptop and service from OcUK and Aorus on this forum. The laptop itself is brilliant, great design and has been running wildlands perfectly smooth on max settings. Had to update the drivers as the track pad was acting unusually but after that no issues. Haven't tested battery life as it's usually plugged in but did notice wildlands was not smooth when on battery. Laptop just about fits in the samsonite 17.3 qibyte laptop case too. R.

Hi Raudhan - thanks for the feedback and glad you are happy with your new addition. :-)

@Atom80 do you have (and are you allowed to provide me with!) contact details? I just have something to ask privately regarding an X7 DT.

Thanks :D

Hi OCdude - have sent you message on "TRUST", you should be able to do the same, but check mail and should be able to reply that way.

Let us know if nothing appears....

Doh, just realised my email address in trust was wayyyyy out of date. I've just updated it, so would you mind trying again? Thanks :D

Received my X7 DT V7 CF2 about a week ago. So far, I love it!

My thoughts so far over this past week... Some of the negatives may seem overly critical, but I have just tried to be honest and I think my commentary is fairly balanced!

Things to praise:

Performance in all of the games I've tested so far has been great.
My worries about the TN panel have been largely forgotten about, the 120Hz G-sync is easily one of the best features of the machine. And while there is some colour shift when moving my head around, it is definitely the best TN I have ever used and doesn't devalue the product as I'd worried.
Boot up times and game loading are excellent as you'd expect.
I'm warming to the orange trackpad, it's iridescent and looks different colours depending on which angle you view it from. (a bit like the screen lolololol :p)
The laptop throughout has excellent build quality, is nice and thin and is lighter than I expected. Certifiably portable.
The V7's RGB keyboard looks really premium with its built in keys (much nicer than the V6's removable version) and has been fairly easy to type and game with.
Bluetooth works perfectly with my PS4 controllers.
While I doubt the Command & Control software is particularly efficient, the quick sliders for overclocking do what they say and are easy to use.
Most of the heat goes directly out the back of the machine, though mouse-ing on the right side of the machine can get a bit warm.

Negatives:

Would have preferred no manufacturer stickers on the body of machine, of which there are 3. Not sure what it'll do to the surface finish if I try to remove them, ugh. May leave them on.
I had various runtime errors when installing/updating the drivers, everything looks OK and no crashes to date but not confident.
Not sure what the purpose of the USB key was, I didn't find anything useable on it :S
One of the driver updates took forever to download at very slow speeds, not sure if problem with killer wireless, though haven't had any net speed problems since.
Games have been bad on battery, very choppy. Though not a problem for me at all, only noticed this when I forgot to switch on at the wall.
Talking of the wall charger, the built in USB plug is a cool feature but disappointed that it isn't a fast charger, quite slow in fact..
At times the temps have been very high; mid 90s on games that aren't really what I'd consider top end, system taxing games. I am using the little stick on feet provided to raise the rear of the laptop up but I need to play around with some undervolting to fix this.
So the fans at 80% speed and up, are loud. However they are smooth sounding fans (at the moment... what a pessimist!) and are less intrusive than other high end laptops I've had. With that said headphones/headset is pretty much essential for anything that's going to tax the system.
Comes pre-installed with DVD software... Fairly sure I haven't come across the optical drive yet....

While the keyboard is great it could be better:
Backlighting could do with being 15% brighter at max.
The keys have a shorter travel than I'd like and I seem to catch Caps Lock accidentally a lot. Learning curve I guess.
The numpad is right up against the rest of the keyboard and could do with being slightly separate from the main keys, the same distance away as the 'G' keys would be better.
The backlighting for the Tab, Backspace and numpad Enter key don't light up fully because of where the LEDs are in relation to the button lettering. Tab is noticeably darker than other keys in certain colours and 'Back' in Backspace doesn't light up very well at all. (sorry to anyone who hadn't noticed that and now can't un-see it! Maybe it's just mine... :) )
The font chosen for the keys is OK in general but some of the Shift functions of keys are very small and difficult to make out, especially because of the font.
Not strictly part of the keyboard, but the power button is very bright. If you are playing a dark game it provides a decent amount of glare at the bottom of the screen. (How do I turn this off or dim it?!)
And lastly, keep hold of that big cloth that comes between the keys and screen when new. This thing is a finger print magnet all over, keyboard included. So finding that it needs a daily wipe down, buffs out great though.

All in all, no regrets at all. Brilliant machine (provided I can get the temps down a bit). This thing has no direct competitors really.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Glad you are overall happy with your machine, and thanks for the feedback - these thoughts and observations will be feedback to HQ product team

Thanks again for sharing with the forum community.

Is there any legitimate progress on fixing the ghosting issues on the keyboard or is it a hardware problem and will never be fixed?

According to someone on the Aorus forums, keyboard firmware 1.1.8 fixed the ctrl-shift-arrow issue (link) not sure if that's a specific key combination bug or an overall ghosting fix ?!

Was about to pull the trigger when I saw the X7 DT for £2799, but when I refreshed the page (was a tab that had been open for days), it jumped up to £2899 lol typical

I find myself wishing I'd gone for the 4k screen . Yes it's overpriced, but... I seem to be forever adjusting the screen hinge to get rid of TN colour distortion. Other than that (and the tiny scratch I somehow put in it!) the TN panel is good, but... I should've gone for the 4K.

For X7 Owners: My DT v7 fits *perfectly* in this sleeve/light case: B01HXKTI1G Zikee Slim Briefcase

For X5 Owners: My X5 MD, before I returned it, fitted *perfectly* in this one: B0739NZ4LC Inateck Shockproof Laptop Sleeve

The Inateck felt much better quality but they don't do one big enough for the X7 unfortunately.

Hope that helps someone! I wish Aorus did sleeves for these!

I'm also the same. I find the TN panel horrific for viewing, especially in bed. Constantly trying to readjust it so I can see things properly.

@Atom I've received my V7 x7 CF-1. After the previous shambles I was admittedly wary but its very looks and the inherent potential forced me to cling on, it has all come through. A laptop so beautifully designed had to deliver too and I'm very happy with it. It's only on weekends that I manage to use it properly, since it arrived most I have done is gape and gawk in awe. There is one thing out of the way for sure, to test the keyboard I hammered away at the keys, hasn't missed a stroke or a dot.

So far it's been truly amazing. I'm going to spend a bit more time on it and then will write a (very positive, I'm sure) review here.

As for those with doubts or concerns, trust me, aside from cases that do get highlighted here, this is one incredible laptop and as other very satisfied customers have mentioned, once U get Aorus there's no going back. Also, as I can personally vouch.. the OcUK staff and the Aorus reps here are genuinely helpful and help sort out issues, very much to consumers' satisfaction... the Aorus management is very keen to look after us. Get the Aorus laptop without any qualms (from OcUK too), both for its design, quality and after sales service, U won't regret it.

@Atom80 If I could send U a message in private, please.. I needed to ask U something.

Thank U.

Ahhh, looks like you need to enable the "trust" facility on your user account within the forums......

Let us know when done - alternatively, if you send a message in the "customer services" area of the forums (FAO JAMES BAILEY) we will ge OcUK service team to forward to us.

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

The pleasure's all mine, to say the least. :)

May I say that Aorus retained a customer because of how U handled my initial rant. A couple of other OcUK/Aorus customers (not sure if they'd appreciate their names being mentioned here) did help, yet had Ur response to my lament not been so thoughtful and considerate, I wouldn't have bothered buying an Aorus product again. And I truly wish more people come to know of U and Ur team's commitment to offering the best service, that way even if they may run into issues they know their concerns will be very positively addressed.

Sorted the 'Trust' bit, enabled here in the forum, although trying to log in got me to the same glitch from months ago, that my username doesn't exist.

Edit: I just sent a message in the customer service area FAO JAMES BAILEY

I am in need of help from the Aorus people please.

My laptop died in class while typing notes. And now won't come on after charging.

I press power, the logo lights up. And the fan starts and runs for about 15 seconds. Then shuts off, and starts over. Does it over and over.

Never makes it to POST. Display never lights.
I basically am holding the power button. Or taping it. Seemingly randomly trying to get it to actually start.

Why is it doing this?
I'm sitting in class right now, took me 10 mins to get the thing to come on....

This is the second time I've had this issue.

I seem to be a thread killer to every forum I visit.
I am not sure, I think I got it sorted. But it pops up every now and again. i think it was originally something to do with hibernate and windows update.
Or possibly sleep and something else?

Windows kept trying to do auto update, and i think the laptop died in the middle of that. So trying to boot it was problematic. After i finally got it to boot, by just mashing the power button and doing hard resets until it finally came on. I manually completed the windows update and checked my driver updates.
So now it seems to reliably start from a complete shutdown. (And regedit so windows updates on my say so)
But closing the lid (which puts it in hibernate) seems to be faulty since it won't start back up when I open the lid and try and bring it to life pressing the Spacebar Power button. It will turn on, fans spin. "HDD" and "light" light comes on. But the display stays dark. so I have to hold the power button and do a hard reset and it will come back on, usually insisting on disk check.
