First things are to secure food and water, water first.
Secondly, depending on the circumstances of the Apocalypse ( I will assume some form of pandemic, no zombies or nuclear holocaust or sudden planes falling out of the sky etc) secure a means of protection, be it a weapon of some kind (one you can use, not everyone can use a gun for example).
Then you need to secure supplies;
warm sensible waterproof clothing (poncho) and boots. Knife (combat & swiss), lighter, medical supplies, broad spectrum antibiotics, antiseptic, bandages, antibiotic cream, antihistimines, oxytetrycycline, suture kit etc. Metal pan, plate, cup. hatchet batteries, candles, torch, matches, pen, paper, backpack, rope, sewing kits, nylon, portable fishing gear, essential climbing gear. compass, maps, tent, A survival guide if you have no training or experience, along with a fauna/flora identification book. Sunglasses, can opener, pliers, and a wind up radio/torch.
Next secure a vehicle, if an urban area preferably a motorcycle (a Land-rover later or if in a rural setting) and fuel being aware that any other survivors will also gravitate towards places of fuel,food etc. Never engage in a confrontation if it can be avoided.
Then it is moving time.
The coast is a good idea, here you will have a good supply of water (desalination kits are a lifesaver) and food.
The secret to survival is stay the hell away from urban areas, dead people can kill you as surely as the live ones (disease), always boil water (get a tester if you can), never crap where you live, and stay away from people and for god sake don't take risks that may result in an injury, a simple broken limb will kill you.
Remember that even stored petrol and diesel will only be useful for a maximum of 24 months, so once you have a secure base secure alternative sources of energy. LPG and Parafin are good alternatives. Don't store it near your camp or house, source some Thermal-gel so that fires are less risk also.
Keep waste and especially food waste away from camp, along with food should be stored securely and away from prying animals etc, remember animals are dangerous when there are no humans to control their numbers.
Generators and spare parts are also a neccessary precaution to take, along with the manual for whatever equipment and manuals you have, remeber there may be a glut of things to begin with, but as the years pass they will become scarce and unusable.
That should at least get you (with a little luck) into a position to survive and worry about finding a woman....
