Also the wear and tear costs on geothermal power systems is massive. The issues caused by the amounts of dissolved gases and the resultant acidified water alone are staggering.

In any near future i would say any kind of apocalypse is highly unlikely barring a war.
There is likely to be large amounts of untapped oil still existing on earth, it is just at the moment that its not financially viable to be drilling for. Other natural resources i can't say for sure but if we run out all it would mean is large power shortages at its worst in the short term which i would say won't kill billions of people since we have already lived without the high energy consumption lifestyle for many years in the past.
Global warming is always a possibility and probably quite likely in the long term of our planets life but not in the near future.
Ocean acidification would really only affect the planet in its link and cause to global warming since the latest scientific model predicts a drop in 0.355 pH between the 1700s and the year 2100 it dosen't pose any threat in the near future
Viruses would certainly be a problem especially if used in a biological warfare. Although i would say that a nuclear war is far more likely to destroy the population than any virus could.
My vote would be on North Korea taking us out by sparking the nuclear war since it recently tested a long range ballistic missile that could reach the USA and the probability of them having nuclear capabilities in the near future (or now) is likely to be high.
An "Apocalypse" will be inevitable unless space travel beyond this solar system becomes possible since in about 1 billion years the sun will be too hot for water to exist on earth and thus killing everything. If that dosen't kill us in 5 billion years the sun will die out and engulf us anyway.

North Korea don't have the ability to be a threat anymore, they're economically ruined. It's only a matter of time before there is an uprising.
China and USA are two very inter-twined economies at this point: China has become America's banker. It would take an extreme series of surreal events for them to come to blows.
The change in our energy-economy will be an interesting time to live through though. If there is any large war in the future it will be either from that, or from interference in Pakistan. I honestly think that Pakistan is on the brink of a civil-war.

I had a dream the other night and my dreams usually come true 99.5% of the time, it went something like this.....
I am the best oil rig worker in the world, but instead of employing good people i employ people who are generally the dregs of society..kinda like the idiot on my rig who is knocking one into my daughter that everyone knows about but i didnt.
Anyways the government discover that a massive asteroid the size of texas is going to hit our planet so they ask me to go into space (no experience necessarry) with my merry band of scumbags and drill into the asteroid and blow it up.
We agree so we go into space and start drilling but its quite hard work, then summat goes wrong so i send everyone home to safety and i stay and blow myself and the asteroid up thus saving humanity.
