*** Apple event 10th November @ 6pm - One More Thing: Apple Silicon Macs Reveal ***

That's my only concern the memory. Then again, I currently only have 16GB in my mBP and I never run into any issues with it running out of memory even whilst coding or doing virtualisation.

I have 32GB on my iMac and I run into issues, I'm probably going 64GB next generation.

Interesting that they don't list the CPU speeds anywhere.

They don't do it for any of their own Apple Silicon chips.

The upgrades are price gouged like hell.

£250 extra for going from 256GB to 512GB. Another £200 for going to 1TB.
£200 extra for 16GB ram.

They're likely high-end PCIe 4 SSDs but still, that price...

Yeah, I know a few people most likely do have much higher workload requirements than me and appreciate that. For work I farm everything out to better optimised workloads and the personal stuff I work on just isn't that meaty I guess.

I think we knew they would be - this is unfortunately a classic Apple move.

So the 13" Pro doesn't even get the "higher end" model yet which in the current/out-going gen had the twin fans, faster internals and RAM plus 4 USB-C instead of 2. Hmmmm.

Sure, but it seems odd not seeing a CPU frequency spec as a price differentiator in a laptop.

Was just looking at that, they're taking the **** on the upgrades.

You've got to be kidding me, after all that they're still including a 720p camera?!?!
Everything else looks so good too.

I completely trust their claims about the AI engines increasing the quality. They have done great work with their phones.. this is what having a company work across all product categories can bring.

Yeah, clearly a midrange device. We'll need to wait for a more complex chip for those features.

Those upgrade prices are awful :( And they’re making their hardware harder to repair/upgrade outside of the Apple store - if they want people to get on their side, the upgrades need to be massively slashed.

Whats really odd is that the intel variants are still being sold at a higher price lol

ORDERED! Got the base MBA, chucked in a few dongles and the AppleCare+.

This is for my business needs, and since I mainly do a lot of office based work (zooming, excel, drafting docs, also some graphical work to create presentations), I've gone for the fanless design of the Air. I think I may loose a little in sustained performance as mentioned, but while I might do an occasional bit of editing its not my main priority.

It's got a great battery life, and will feel incredibly quick coming from my late 2012 MBP. I'm really excited :)

Long have Apple trolled us with their upgrade prices, long have people still huffed, puffed then hit 'buy' anyway because human nature.

These look cool but it just confirms to me that I should probably just get something from the Refurb store to have for a few years until the dust has settled, there's been some redesigns and any teething problems ironed out. If I get the LG 5K display then at least that'll carry over when I upgrade again if I go for a cheaper outgoing Mini.

Standard models are all showing delivery of 17th-18th November but I've just ordered this one so it won't be here until the week after.

I'll have two weeks to decide whether it's a keeper.

Yeah, same for the Mini as soon as you upgrade anything looks like it comes later, bit of a shame but always been the case hasn't it?

Gone with the 512GB Air with 16Gb RAM, so pumped about fanless design. For my office work and occasional Lightroom usage, this will be spot on.

£1304.40 with education pricing.

Also noticed the Mini has less Thunderbolt/USB-C ports than the Intel one. Assume that's a SoC thing and so you'll have to wait for a 'Mini Pro' or iMac for that.

Forgot about this, so having a read through the MacRumors coverage of it now. I take it that USB 4.0 is effectively Thunderbolt 3 for the masses? And the new naming scheme of old USB standards is worse than before. Just like F1 making their tyre naming easier...

£1,727.80 for 13" MBP with 512gb SSD and 16GB Ram with AppleCare with student discount. Working out to be an expensive month with the iPhone 12, PS5 then this!
