I've just never seen the point of the MBA, and I still don't. It's not like the 13" MBP is that heavy, it's only 2kg after all. If you can't carry that for at least an hour or two you're clearly a bit of a girl. Besides, all you need is a decent laptop bag and the shoulder strap helps with the extra weight a lot. The only situation in which I can see the MBA being useful is if you carry around a laptop for hours and hours on end and really have to have something very light.

To me, all the MBA is there for is to give people an idea of the technology that will be in the next round of MBP updates!

i use a laptop at work, and I used to never get ultraportables, but since working on one day to day and travelling all over the place, i couldn't be without a sub 2.5kg machine.

i have a 15inch mbp, and honestly its a desktop replacement that never leaves the flat, so i could see myself adding an 11 inch MBA for travelling in preference to an ipad, though i'll probably wait for core i3/i5 to arrive.

So Apple spend most of 2010 telling us how pointless netbooks are, then release one over four times the price of 'normal' netbooks. You have to laugh. :D

To be honest i can kind of see where apple are comming from here

They've done their own take on the netbook, it has flash memory so has instant on like an ipad, but yet still has a proper graphics chip and a proper core 2 duo processor and can come with 4gb of RAM no problem

yes the upgrade is £70, but apple always has been expensive, people will just source their own ...

And its got a normal copy of OSX on it, rather than some stripped down affair of windows, or worse.

Only problem is the price. If this was £600 people would be all over it.

If I didn't get a MBP 2 months ago i would be seriously tempted, it is a full blown laptop, not a netbook!

i dont really see the point in the 13" macbook air

At that size you'd just as soon has the 13" mbp

the 11" macbook air however, i think could have a nice spot in the market if it wasnt so damned expensive. It fits into the "netbook" formfactor but whilst still retaining full functionality. This gives us a netbook, but without doing exactly the thing apple was so against (cutting down on functionality) - the 11 " screen size wasn't the problem.

But then surely the Macbook Pro won't have the things you like about the MBA. Can't have the best of both worlds. :P

I could live with a more powerful but a little bigger computer though! :p

Agree with the above. The 13" is totally pointless i think, possibly why it has better specs...want to sucker more money out of you. The 11" would be perfect to take to Uni everyday. Even though my 15" isn't massive it's still a pain in the rear to unplug and put away. Cables falling behind the desk is a nightmare!

Please lower the price to £699 at the very least!

Facetime does look pretty cool, although I don't know anyone with a Macbook or iPhone 4 :(

I tried it, it's quite erm scary, I am kind of webcam virgin :p (well, not really, done it AGES ago but never talk to anyone for that purpose, just to test on MSN)

The MacBook Air looks good but if you can't play Football Manager on it (without the external drive) I ain't interested. :D

I think I have a mancrush on Jony Ive, he is pretty damn cool. Loving a bit of Elbow in the MacBook Air video as well. :D

Won't it come to steam?
Would normal USB drivers work with MBAs?
