Apple post record profits.

Apple can be brilliant, but at the same time they can take the ****, the stuff they do, they generally do pretty well, ok it's all under the jobist way of doing things, but they're generally pretty good for that purpose. However they very obviously purposely hold back standard market features, purely so they can bring them in later on and sell a new model with this amazing new feature that 99% of equivalent products had 5 -10 years ago, they might have done it well, but there's no reason it wasn't there to begin with other than ripping off the consumer.

The thing apple do better than anything else is make profit, they're geniuses at it. However despite these record profits they are losing market share, day by day. It's very easy to sprint into the lead when there's nobody racing you, however once the big boys have done their laces up and caught you up you're going to fall flat on your nerdy little face in the dust. Apple won't ever struggle because they make so much profit for each item sold, but I can see them going back to where they were before, being the minor, specialist product.

It isnt just making stuff smaller though is it ?

the new ipod nano is a masterstroke in design. There just isn't anything out there offering a multi touch display that small.

Granted I haven't actually tried one I do think that having a touch screen on such a small device is pointless because all most people want from a device of that size is a reliable little player with oodles of battery life and controls you can use from your pocket without even having to look.

And so, the slightest mention of Apple in GD brings out the trolls.

This is getting old. Haters gonna hate etc :o

The people I know with the largest volume of Mac products are, indeed, gay. Therefore, the hypothesis is proven.

The people I know with the largest volume of Mac products are, indeed married , so your hypothesis is broken.

Gay men spend all there money on hair gel and butt plugs* :D

* I make this up as I have no idea what gay men spend there £££ on

and nobody pays that anway, because its cheaper just to buy the £25 upgrade each time. Since when can you get an upgrade to the latest microsoft OS for £25 ??

Only once since 10.0 has an OS upgrade been £25, this latest one from 10.5 to 10.6. All the rest were full price only and the main reason 10.6 was cheap was because it was mostly low level architectural changes and not front end features.

If only iphone wasn't this ridiculously expensive then even more people would have it. Even from the place I work only very few people have mac computers, nobody has got an ipad but about 15% got an iphone which is a lot imo. I got myself an ipod touch to see what the fuss was about and now I can see how addictive it is, I just couldn't justify the price of an iphone. I suppose a good android phone would be just as addictive as an apple product.

I think Apple are an excellent company, there marketing is next to none. However, the pricing of their products, I think is extreme. I still can't bring myself to buy a Macbook Pro, as much as I'd like one. I could get a better spec windows machine with the amount I'd have to pay.

I think the iPhone is really where the hit it off, but after a while even that phase will die down.

From these statements I conclude all Apple buyers are closet homosexuals.

Have you never seen an ipod poster on every single corner/bus/you name it every single time a new ipod series is released? They actually advertise heavily at least once a year.

Actually I haven't. And I'm out and about nearly everyday. The most I've seen of the iPod advertising is in newspaper/tv's. Never actually seen a billboard type/poster type.

Good for them, wonder how they feel about their share prices being down?

Also what does this "profit" come from, I'm always sceptical with these figures from any company who like to miss out on a lot of things. e.g. didn't Apply get sued recently for $600 Million? Is that kind of thing factored in?
