Apple 'Spring Forward' Event 09/03/2015

I'll be honest, I didn't even notice the CPU specs. Not going to be doing much on that at all apart from web browsing and Office. I'm definitely out.

I would throw money at my screen if they made a space grey 13" rMBP, don't really need to upgrade mine since its 1.5 years old but space grey looks really nice on a laptop.

My trusty MacBook Pro Retina is only a year old (top spec 15") however, I'll probably upgrade to the new MacBook Pro Retina, could anyone drop me a link to the information on them?

The Apple Watch looks good too :), will probably treat myself to both as it's my birthday in April, end of exams at Uni, and last three essays are due! :).

Thought the MBA was under powered already so this changes nothing in the next upgrade for my MBP 13" to be the newer MBP 13", except in Retina.

All apple had to do was to give the Air a retina display and increase the screen size on the 11.6" one to take away that ugly bevel.

They'd have sold millions.

As it is I'm faced with sticking with my old Air, or going for a 13" rMBP. I need to be able to run lightroom, and have a decent screen to work with.

Reminds me of the time I bought the original Macbook Air for $1799 (the SSD option was $3499). At the time it had an 80GB iPod mini HD, 2GB of RAM, 4 hours of battery, and a crippled processor. People were fussing over it not having an optical drive built-in. The same way people are fussing over missing ports today.

Just a few years later, you got SSD standard, 4GB RAM standard, etc. and it's half the price.

My prediction is that in 2-3 years this will be the standard MacBook. People will have USB-C flash drives, use more wireless peripherals, and no one will think twice about getting a computer equipped with just USB-C. The same way no one is complaining about NOT a single "new" Apple computer having optical drives, not even their desktops.

I further predict that after another one or two generations of this hardware, the price will drop to $899 or $999 and it will "replace" the existing Air line the way the Pro's have all been replaced by the Retina ones (I am sure they will drop the "retina" moniker as soon as the final non-retina model is discontinued).

That's why they named it "MacBook" instead of adding a suffix, because that makes it easy to drop "Air" models and you're left with MacBook and MacBook Pro, just like the good ol' days.

In the mean time, I think it is a dream machine for internet entrepreneurs and digital nomads. Lighter than the 11" so even better for travel, without making a compromise on screen quality or battery life.

Not sure how it compares horsepower wise, but I am sure by Gen 2 or 3 the benchmarks will be adequate for most buyers.

Some guy on MacRumors - pretty much sums it up. Paying a premium for being an early adopter.

Why didnt they put the new USB-C socket on the updated macbook pros, especially since they updated to the new touchpad? doesn't make sense to me.

Might be interested in the new MacBook if the price is right, I only have an iPad at the moment so an Intel Core M would be more than enough for my needs. I think the most strenuous thing I'd use it for would be the occasional game of Football Manager... Also am I wrong for really liking the gold version? :D

Most MBP owners aren't going to downgrade to the new Macbook - at least the creatives etc - and while the 13" got a minor spec bump (the quad core Broadwell chip for the 15" isn't ready yet thanks to Intel) and the trackpad (guessing the 15" will probs get it when it gets a soft update once that chip is available), it'll cost less and be more of an obvious choice for them to save the USB-C socket etc for when the MBPs get their big design change this year or next. IIRC they haven't changed since their release in 2012 so they're due a big refresh, mostly likely to co-incide with the Skylake chips coming out.

Dear god. A single USB-C socket. Can't charge and have anything connected - well played boys......

And a CPU downgrade?

No SD card slot?

Take my money!

I still think 1 port is stupid though, without buying the adapters you can't do anything. And even then. Only 1 port.

The MBA is hardly heavy. I don't see why it needs to be any lighter and thinner. Heck the 13" one I use as a spare, it feels delicate enough at times without being smaller.

Though hopefully more USB-C products will come to market now and speeds up the market.

I can understand promoting new standards, even moving to only USB-C isn't the end of the world but giving just one port is retarded.

I suppose there'll be a nice profit in Apple selling a hub so you can plug in a memory stick or monitor and charge at the same time, or adapters so you can use the billions of USB devices in the world

I really liked the magnetic charging connection which has saved the wife's macbook a few times when I've caught the cable by accident.

One adaptor lets you do HDMI and regular USB 3.1 which seems fair enough, it's an ultra portable device, adding more ports to the device would be counter productive where a single USB C can do it all.

All I regularly plug in to my Air is a monitor, power and 3.5mm for speakers, I'd think a lot are the same, lots not even going that much.

A new Cinema Display doing video and power on one cable would be nice.
