Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

The US Patent Office seems to be almost hilariously incompetent if four years is not some freak occurrence for a result on a patent application - that's not including the fact that it seems to allow for patents that are dubious at best in the first place.

If it's not that the US Patent Office is just straight up incompetent then why has this suddenly been decided now a cynic might wonder?

All patents take that long to verify.
Also crap article and no way to deduce what the patent actually is. Other than it says its unlikely to affect google at all. Several different numbers for average length, but anywhere from 34months to 8years for approval.

EU is no better at 43 months average.

That long, wow. I guess I take it back - that still seems like a ridiculously long time to decide a patent but not entirely unprecedented. I've still got some queries about how after all that time they've still allowed some of the patents they have but that's largely a separate issue.

As far as I can see its just back Logs, rather than actual proper checks. Not that I can see how a proper check can be performed.

But patent law leaves smelting to be desired. But there's no simple fix.

Just think how many patents there are and the different language describing them to cross reference, then you have the is it an obvious step etc. I just don't see how it could ever be workable in a fair way.

Where do Apple get off telling a Judge, we will only agree to your judgment if its for the price we want to pay...Wtf

I am quite pleased about this just... For now anyway.

Apple have a bit of a cheek. They have sued the pants of everyone that they say uses anything even remotely close to an Apple device or function yet, when it comes to Apple using other company's tech, they think they can dictate what happens here as well? Talk about arrogance.

It will be interesting to see when Google get their notification centre patents awarded. I say when because there is no way they should not be awarded but I shall await and see what the USPTO do....

Whilst it was arrogant of Apple to try and dictate a price, I do wonder what Google are charging Apple and MS for these patents, and vice versa. Too many patents and it's the consumer who suffers.

Motorola wanted 2.5% in this case, which Apple wouldn't even enter into negotiation, considering without Motorola and others patents the iPhone would be an iPod touch, i think they have a bloody cheek, but i expect that Google will get buggered by MS and Apple going to FTC and Courts to get FRAND nullified.

Apple want $35 for the patents they hold, on touch and round corners, Apple are deluded idiots.

Apple: Its ok to use other patents which they took years to work and billions in revenue, we want to use them for free as its unfair. But our patents are awesome and we want mega bucks because we invented touch and round corners!!

Why is it OK for Apple to make the biggest profit margins when selling to the consumer but it's not OK when someone tries to make a profit off Apple?
