Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

I do like the face unlock on the Nexus, I was surprised how well it works (obviously it's flawed when in the dark but aside from that - impressive stuff).

OMG

Why apple? WHYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted this saying it will happen !

If Google haven't patented it, they should have. If Apple see potential in an idea, they will try and get it patented - such is the patent system.

You shouldn't be at all surprised.

Doing this on a highly published feature of Google's ICS just makes Apple look like desperate, childish morons....

Who's the moron?

Did you read it?

It's a different system than ICS
its solution will utilize the location and distance between the user’s eyes, mouth and nose tip. It will then determine whether or not, the person involved is the owner of the respective device

So it's not the same at all.

Patents work as a whole. Thats why you can patent similar but different things. Absolutely nothing moronic about it. Other than people jumping to conclusions
As they work as a whole, it's why companies can get round patents by using different implementation steps. Even though the start and end objectives are the same.

Apple are very clever and although they don't have the highest number of patents. There potfolio is worth the most as they are all pretty much key areas. Again decent insight on the PDF I linked a few posts back.

Well I guess its better than just patenting a flat rectangle device with a screen ;)

First, the patent was filed a year before ICS was even announced.

Second, it will be a method of face recognition that's patented (one that's probably different than the one used in ICS), not the idea of face recognition itself. Patents are generally far more specific than the abstract suggests. Unless you've read the detailed description of the claims, which tend to be many pages of text, then it's hard to know what's actually been patented.

Well Apple obviously sees Samsung as the biggest threat to them, especially since the Galaxy S2. That's why there at them guns blazing. It just cements my hatred of all things Apple.

Of course Samsung are the biggest threat, they are the only real competitor to Apple when it comes to top end phones...

Having said that, I don't think the Galaxy S II has eaten into iPhone sales as much as people think. I think it's just taken the top tier of the Android handset market by storm and provided an immediate alternative for the many people who can't justify the cost of an iPhone.

I agree, Galaxy S II hasn't eaten into iPhone sales at all i think. People who want to buy an iPhone will get an iPhone and won't be swayed by an Android phone. They are repeat customers stuck in a mind set I'm afraid. But what Apple are worried about is that now there is a real alternative to the iPhone with an great phone that the uptake on new customers might slow down. That's what worries Apple as people might not see that the iPhone is not the be all and end all it was a couple of years ago.

The competition has caught up and (at least on the hardware front) overtaken the iPhone. Heck even samsung is going to beat the iPhone to the punch this year with the S III with the quad core processor. Traditionally Apple was always the first ones with new tech, but not anymore.

I even see that it's starting to happen with tablets as well. Asus with the TF701 will be pretty damn close to iPad3 specs months before it even releasd!

Really, nice generalisation there. Or you know ATM iPhone is the best choice, mainly due to eco system, Which is quickly being errorded by windows and android isn't anywhere near as good ecosystem wise. But does cover every price point.
Why can't us apple "fans" buy becuase it's the best solution to our needs.
Maybe we aren't the brainwashed ones, but people like you who make such comments are.

That's the term i hate the most, 'eco system' it doesn't mean squt and it shouldn't have a bearing on what you buy. Apple are delibratly creating an eco system for you so you're locked in tighter then ever and from your post you don't even see it!!

As far as i see it if you buy a product and you have to buy products from the same company just so it works in a slicker way then something is not quite right there!

I can hook my Advent Tablet to my Samsung TV, or my SG2 to my netbook, or my Sony PS3 to my Asus monitor or my xbox to my pc's sound card with no problems. I shouldn't have to be forced to have everything the same. If i was force to say what product i have the most of it's Samsung. One TV, Monitor and mobile. This year i might get a Samsung GS3, or i might get a HTC if they do better, or even Nokia. I have freedom of choice, you at best will be wringing your hands if you want something other then an iPhone

 doesn't mean squat of course it does.
So you think I should go with android, which doesn't have nearly the same Eco system and would hinder one my main uses. Buying and watching films.

You are very wrong, of course is should care when it's one of my main uses for such a device and of course it is actually something tangiable..

So you may want to rethink your extremely flawed thinking and try again.

Yeah great, you can hook your android up to a tv and then can't buy films to watch, brilliant. That's me out, might not be an issue for you. But it is an issue to many people. Hence ecosystem is very important and real.

What do you mean can't buy films?? What system are you buying films from that can't be done in any other way then the Apple way?

Apart from the fact i prefer physical media (Blu-ray) for my movies, i have countless online streaming services on my PS3 (40d, iPlayer, Netflix, LoveFilm etc etc etc), surely you're not talking about AppleTV??

I can even have them all on my laptop, mobile and tablet and hook them up, they all have HDMI outputs, no problem, eco system is at best a maketing ploy and at worst a trap
