Apple vs Samsung, court orders Samsung to show Apple 5 new phones

That will force innovation not harm it by your own argument.

I just cant see how enforcing patents this quickly is good for us consumers, we either get

1) Screwed for the cost of the device
2) Limited features

As I said earlier most of the software patents are for things they have not done, figured out or released yet, like a just in case patent. Meaning that if some other company does it first they cant release it. So it will turn into a game of lets patent every idea that we have so the other guy can't do it. I dont see how patenting ideas that you cant do yet is going to be good for consumers.

They should only be able to patent things they can do or show a working example of, I would have less of an issue with that.

Found it:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19389732

Google released its statement late on Sunday in the US.

"The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims," it said.

"Most of these don't relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the US Patent Office.

"The mobile industry is moving fast and all players - including newcomers - are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don't want anything to limit that."

That's going to be an even more interesting case than this one.

Why can't we have a global or at least as many countries as possible patent system, that Si designed for modern times and utilizes modern practices.
Surly it can be that hard to store patents electronically and compare patents for possible previuse patents. And some sort of standardized acceptance model where people have so long to bring up evidence before its approved.

The US Patent Office is reportedly looking at the patents in question to judge their validity.... Talk about closing the barn door after the horse has bolted...

The thing about this as well is surely they can just change this afterwards. If they have decision upheld and fails the appeal and whatever. They cant just take the money then go back on it a little bit later. They cant say somethings wrong with the patent system. Its working as intended and will be upheld more strictly than it probably was before.

You are talking a huge amount of rubbish.

Some of the new Ultrabooks are lovely premium products. Take the Samsung Series 9 Ultrabooks - nice build, great battery life etc.

To say Android products are popular because they are cheap is also rubbish. The most popular handsets are the premium ones, the ones that are no cheaper, or only a little bit cheaper than iPhones. The S2, the S3 etc....

Android 4.0.4 and 4.1 are exceptionally polished, lovely intuitive GUI etc. That is the reason that Android is outselling Apple hand over fist.

You ARE an Apple fan boy. Others have been doing these things better for a while, yet you just cannot see it.

I wouldnt say android is outselling apple hand over fist, unless of course you have actual sales figures to back that up, and no android activations do not count, as one handset can be reset and have to activated again.

Oh and this illustrates the lengths that Samsung copied apple, not just on phones

So much this.

I call for a boycott of apple products.

I can't boycott them anymore than I already do and that was just for the slave labour that makes them.

But then ethically wrong company uses unethical means to prove another company is unethically breaking unethical patents. It's absolutely laughable and horrifically sad.

Walkman was copied by everyone still made Sony more money than anyone else.

This defeat in the courts is bad news for consumers IOS or no IOS

I don't really understand why people are so annoyed, it's clear that Samsung copied Apple, not just on the ~normal level of 'borrowing idea's. They flat out copied Apple's products.

I just think this thread/topic was going to be a hard sell on here given the huge anti Apple stance.

Take a look at global smartphone shipments....

Android powered handsets are up around 65% of total.

It should.

Paying massively massively over the the odds for what is quite literally the same physical item just because you bought it from Apple.com instead of Crucial.com is just completely stupid.

Nothing to do with being a cheapskate, everything to do with not being a complete mug.

They offer a better overall product for my needs. It's integrated into the machine as there is literally not enough space in the chassis for standard sticks. This is a design they've chosen that means it gets added when my machine is being built.

I don't care if it costs more. Why should I? It's a premium product anyway so why should I care about a little extra cost for the memory?

It looks tacky. You're stuck with Windows and to rub salt in the wound it cost £300 more than my Air. For a lower spec machine. And people call Apple overpriced? Madness.

Seeing how I mostly see people with cheaper handsets I'd still say that they make up the most of the market. Of course I still do see people with premium models that probably bought them because the contract was cheaper. Either that or they decided to jump on the Apple hate train.

Hand over fist?

Personal opinion. I like the integration I get throughout my iPhone, iPad and MacBook. iMessage has replaced texting for me. Photo stream allows me to take a picture on my iPhone and it'll appear on my other devices, allowing me to work with it and then message it on with ease. I love being able to sit down, fire up my Apple TV and pick a movie to watch either from Netflix or my iTunes library. It's nice buying an AirPrint enabled printer and not having to set up drivers to use it. It just appears on the network and I print to it. Job done. I could carry on but you're probably just getting wound up about this for some silly reason.

Can't be arsed replying to the rest because you all seem upset that I don't hate Apple.

This for me too.

I don't understand why so many people dislike Apple, I don't dislike Android just because I like and use Apple products.

People don't dislike Apple just because they use Windows and Android products

There are plenty of reasons people don't like them or their products, they'll vary from person to person but to imply it's down to owning a competing device is nonsense, they more than likely own the competing device because of a prior dislike.

Read the thread, there are plenty of legitimate reasons. One of which is the incredible hypocrisy shown by Steve Jobs who's company wouldn't have made it out of the 80s in tact if the companies they copied had been as patent aggressive as Apple are today.

As for Android outselling Apple, well, duh? It's hardly a surprise that a group of devices ranging from £50-£500 outsell a couple of devices priced at over £450...

I don't quite see why people get so upset about these things, just buy what you like, it's no big deal. I can see the benefits (and drawbacks) of both systems (iOS/Android), and unlike many, I'd be quite happy with either.
