Approaching the "weight" issue

Whatever you do, don't print out 50 of these & put them around the house.

I would say the woman in the photo has a pretty decent body and seem like a woman who likely works out and not just a blubbery mess

but the captions made me lol

Been with my gf 6 months now and were really close, she isnt a size 10 supermodel she's a 16 - 18

Been on holiday with her last week and became concerned with what she was eating - basically chips with everything and loads of mayo

Ive told her before about the mayo and how unhealthy it is but she just says she likes it etc.

She works in a care home doing shifts and a lot of the time finishes work at 8pm so when she gets home she just pigs out of has "fast food"

I love her to bits but really dont know how to approach her and basically say id like her to eat more healthy and lose a bit of weight. :(

first of all size 10 is obese for a supermodel btw, supermodels will be size 4's or thereabouts, the average fit woman would be around a size 8-12, so 14 is getting into the overweight category. i would say a size 6 is slightly underweight and a 4 is extremely underweight, just to give you a comparison. size 8-12 is what you would call normal and a 10 is nowhere near supermodel.

obviously the frame of the person will dictate their size some too so the above is a "rough" measurement and the bigger frames will be closer to a 12 and smaller frames closer to an 8. an average frame a 10, therefore someone with a small frame could be deemed overweight in a size 12.

if your gf is 16-18 that is obese in my books, you could do a rough BMI test to confirm that or a proper bodyfat test from a specialist if you want an accurate figure.

second of all mayo is not unhealthy.

i suggest you actually read up on nutrition from a bodybuilding perspective as they are the ones who are usually correct rather than from a doctor's perspective as they are usually wrong.

i bet you also think butter is unhealthy? well it isn't, it's actually a hell of a lot healthier than most margerines.

at the end of the day though it will be down to calories, she is eating far too many. easting the right foods should make her eat less calories as junk food is usually too calorific in terms of how filling it is.

you could also both start going to the gym together, or running, cycling, swimming, etc.

or even go for walks, anything to up her activity, as well as the diet side of things.

it's calories come from fat, and it usually has a little protein in it too, if you make it home made then you can adjust it so.

fat is beneficial.

the same calories from sugar like a chocolate bar i would consider unhealthy.

but i wouldn't stop putting mayo in a sandwich because it is calorific.

I have mayonnaise every day. I also have chocolate every day and my BMI is 22.

People need to stop thinking that fat is bad for you. It's not. That's a myth. Only excess calories are, as stated.

the problem is education or ignorance most fat people aren't aware oh the amount of calories hey eat and do not budget their calorie intake

there is no issue with the odd unhealthy snack/dressing as long as you keep your calorie count to your daily requirements.

for me I think it's about 2500 which disappears quicker than most people would realise

While I agree fat isn't bad, and I don't hold a lot of faith in BMI. Eating crap and being slim doesn't mean you're healthy.

Absolutely true. But 30g of dark chocolate a day isn't bad for you especially as long as the rest of your diet is healthy.

Calls fat being bad a myth.

Uses BMI as a credible measure of being overweight.

GGWP.

Very true, studies have shown calorie intake is the deciding factor on weight loss, tests showing someone doing a month of eating 2000 calories of sweets and what not then a month of 2000 calories "proper food" shall we say like meat and stuff and the effect was relatively the same apart from the nutritional stuff you lose out on.

It is credible for most people. If you're a weightlifter or rugby player it's not reliable, I'm well aware of that. I work with a guy whose BMI is 29 but he plays rugby and runs a fitness class. Weightlifters and rubgy players are not most people though.

Indeed, a calorie is a calorie as far as weight loss goes. But eating 2000 cals of chocolate is not going to be sustainable for weight loss. You'll feel like crap very soon, not least because the sugar will make you feel more and more hungry.

Of course but this was regulated so they couldn't just eat more when they chose like most of us do. It would be useless for someone doing exercise too as without much protein, muscle repair time would be terrible.

10g sugar is only 39 calories almost half of the mayonaise

I would suggest tho you need to look at the quality of the calorie and the metabolic response that you get from it. Sugar (like any carbohydrate) causes an insulin response and mayonnaise doesn't.. Cellular Insulin Resistance (caused by over insulin production) is increasingly being shown as the real driver in a lot of metabolic syndrome (such as type II diabetes).. as the bodies natural response to an excess of sugar (glucose) is to convert that to fat in the cells so as not to damage the body..

Despite what gets pushed in the mainstream there are no studies that show a direct link between consumed fat and cholesterol levels..
