ArcheAge, Ultima Online's rebirth?

Is it just a beta "event" weekend? Or is it open beta until release? Also will there be a char wipe for release?

There will be several beta events and then fresh servers for release (this does include an open beta just before release). The Alpha servers will essentially become PTR we are told and chars will stay, but will be wiped for betas. There will be a 4 day early start for Alpha/Beta peeps.

It's going to be a mad rush to get farm spots the first couple of days, not looking forward to it lol. They have been a pain in the ass to get in Alpha but it's been said it wont be so bad as the servers will be a little less populated.

2nd Beta phase starts at the end of the month

"Our second beta event will start at 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) on Wednesday, July 30 and run through 10:00 AM PDT (GMT-7) on Monday, August 4. We expect it to be around three times as big as the first Closed Beta Event. We’ll have more invites for those of you who have signed up on the official ArcheAge website, and more giveaway keys than before, so you’ll have a better chance to get in! In addition, we’re holding a contest for you to win an opportunity to play on Alpha AND on Beta! As always, all Founders get into every Closed Beta Event!

We look forward to seeing you in ArcheAge!

So my friend at work was banging on about this today at work, and said its on Steam.

So is it worth getting any of the Founders packs? Compared top free to play?

If you buy the basic founders pack and it turns out the game is that good... Is it possible to upgrade the pack to maybe Gold or even Archeum?

Good call! might do that myself.

How would that work out via Steam though?

I suspect that you will still be able to log in to your account on the website (https://archeage.trionworlds.com) and upgrade it from there.

Although, since this game is F2P you can buy the founders pack on the trionworlds site, then when the game is released you just log in to your account via steam launcher.

Sure is. I did exactly that. I bought into the silver level so I could be sure to get in the first beta. Liked the game well enough to want to keep playing and learning so I can weather the storm of the 4 day early start (believe me, getting the silver pack and doing the early start will be worth it if you want to play the game long term).

My experience of alpha so far (few days now) has been "useful". In that I'm pretty sure now of a few things:

1) Land fills up quickly. Once its gone, its pretty much gone. So you need to figure out where you want to be and min/max that as soon as possible in the 4 day headstart.

2) If you're thinking of farming (I'm going to be a farmer/crafter type player), then optimizing for the farming quests for the trade runs for your large farm will be priority.

3) You need a guild if you're going to be a farmer or any sort of crafter. Doing trade pack runs across continents will be a mare without a good guild behind you.

4) There's tons of depth to be had in the game. Longer term planning and general guild shenanigans should keep me entertained for years if I can find the right guildies.

5) I just love gliding around. Want a tractor and a car.

6) I hate the spelling of "labor"

Been looking at this recently. Am I right in thinking that if I now buy the Silver Founders pack I will be able to play in the upcoming closed Beta?

Once this Beta is active, will I be able to play right up until release or is constant access to the game reserved for the Archeum buyers?

Correct on the first question.

You would be able to play each beta phase til release. Only when the beta weekends are on. You wouldn't be able to play 24/7 from now til release as you would need alpha access (archeum pack) to be able to play on the alpha servers when the beta servers were down between beta phases.

So what's the particular "hook" for this MMO over others?

Sounds interesting but what is special? Does the PVP have an impact?

How does the farming and getting land work? Can you run to a remote area and just claim land? Also is there different sizes of farms? I suppose if i wanted to have a woodcutters farm type then i would stick my farm in the middle of a forest?

When both the alpha and beta ends im guessing the farms will be wiped (and all characters) then those with the 4 day head start will rush out to claim the best land for farming etc yeah?

Is there lots of bugs in the alpha/beta at this stage?

Meh, i missed out on that curse giveaway, anyone know any other easy ways to get a beta key?

Same..

Says 2% left but "Sorry no prizes"

I was tempted to get the £37 Founder pack yesterday, but I really want to try before I buy.. I've bought too many **** games lately lol

Now I'm watching the ArcheAge reddit page every 10 mins :p

Managed to snag a key off reddit, looking forward to giving this a try. Not playing anything on PC right now, and this mmo sounds perfect! Hope its not screwed over by being a f2p game

I have to say that this land grab mechanic puts me off a little, especially with the pay to win aspect of letting "founders" grab all the best spots first.

people will grab the land but then forget to pay for it. I didn't have that much of a problem finding land in the alpha, yes the first few areas where farms can be placed were packed, but I still was able to find something within 30minutes :)
