I ordered an MSI Trio because the ETA was today and completed the purchase at 14:18 yesterday, (started it at 14:00 - just took 18 mins for the website to get through everything). Status changed to 'order received - not yet shipped' yesterday evening along with confirmation email. And yes I have been charged at the original list price seemingly unlike many others.

This is my first order from OC so not really sure what to expect now in terms of waiting - I see none of the 3080 series have an ETA now.

I bought a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 Eagle OC for £698.99 which is now in status: "Order received - not yet shipped"
I just checked and the pre-order is now at £689.99. Only a couple of £ but seems a bit off if you ask me - I also had free shipping so it's not that.

Not pleased about these price fluctuations.

I feel for you. I was lucky and managed to get it at £649.99. The random price increases mid-sale are certainly not re-assuring

another point on the exchange rate, in the past gibbo has stated prices move on the site due to what price they bought their stock at, so a change in exchange rates shouldn't have effected the launch in the first place unless gibbo was buying cards as people where trying to buy them from ocuk.

It's not because they're buying in on the fly, it's because they've bought/secured/ordered/whatever a box of 20 at £650 and a box of 50 at £700 a week later maybe. Once the first 20 are gone, the price amends to the 50. I'm sure that's what i've seen said before - they literally retail based at what that particular stock item was bought in at plus a margin. If the next item was bought in at more, the price goes up.

Some might argue it would be fairer to sell all 70 at £685 (for example) and get the same return but that's up to them how they'd rather manage their launch day prices.

Some more cynical might argue they're just price gouging but i'm sure they'll vehemently deny that.

How come that doesn't happen with phones, consoles, tvs and about every other consumer electronic?

They are bought in batches, but they don't change the price per batch, it stays fixed.

Retailer choice, as I said in the post you quoted

I ordered an MSI Ventus 3080 late last night, my order is now Order received - not yet shipped.
I guess, based on the replies in this thread, that there's not much chance of getting this any time soon...?

^ Exactly, people were saying prices were changing on the fly so clearly something fishy was going on. I'm not buying from here in the future....

That is what I'm mainly unhappy about, you have all these prices set up on the site, tell everyone pre-ordering starts @ 2pm, and as soon as it starts the prices are raised, come on now, nobody can excuse that type of behaviour, and I say that as someone that has been using OcUK for a majority of my components for over a decade.

That excuse doesn't wash with me. If its simply a choice then any retailer that chooses to do that are scum and don't deserve any of my money.

Well go and buy your card elsewhere then?

At the end of the day, they clearly didn't have trouble selling them as the demand was so high it killed the site for the afternoon, so why change what evidently works?

They've done it before and they'll do it again, it's how they operate and they say so openly. The entire point of this thread was to tell people that if they're not buying the first batch then the price will be going up.

Gibbo already confirmed this in the Latest News thread. Its not price gouging or whatever its because the stock a x amount ran out so the website automatically adjusts price to the stock being bought at y amount.

Anyone else getting fed up of the "when do I get my card" "when will x card be in stock" "I pre-ordered no sign of my order" posts yet as though people are surprised its happening ?
Blaming OCUK for the mess, blaming this, blaming that.

I reckon there are a lot more people sat back quietly silently amused at all this who made the common sense intelligent decision of waiting or not even going with this gen. :)

Ordered at 2:33, The Eagle, Paid non inflated price so i assume that means i got one of the currently in stock cards,
Had a order received email at just gone 7 last night,
Not heard anything off DPD so guessing it never made it out yesterday, paid for next day but i get they were obviously struggling yesterday,
Got the order received not yet shipped on the site like most,
Need to head out so hoping it does not show up by surprise while im out and about lol.

I dont shop here anymore anyway. I only buy from retailers that sell at msrp and don't take money upfront for pre-orders.

Equally just because it works for them doesnt make it ok.

I will however call out retailers that pull these anti consumer practices. I've already sent complaints to the retailers that did similar, although thankfully its only a few, most seemed to stick to one price and not shift it around like a yo-yo
