Are all the claims for a 5.1 jailbreak rubbish

Ok, I'm running a 3GS and an iPad 1 on 5.0.1 jailbroken right now, and was wondering what the best way of upgrading to 5.1.1 jailbroken would be?

Do I have to do a full restore from scratch or can I get away with an over he air update to 5.1.1 then jailbreak?

SBSettings, Dashboard X, Unfold, Infinifolders, landscape lock and Graviboard, thats enough of a reason for me to want to jailbreak

I've had a play around with all the above and really for the life of me I don't see anything worth doing. Sbs setting I just leave wifi on for ease of use. Maybe i have been brainwashed by apple I'm not sure.

I like the look of the Quaser one where you have have multiple windows working but im not paying 10USD to have a play with it.

The only thing I can think of is the naughty side of it but even then its a pain trying to get a good download.

Think i'll restore my devices back to standard

few of my top tweaks:

Deck - Much better than SBSettings
LockInfo
Springtomize 2
Stride or Unfold
Infinidock
CleverPin
DashboardX
DoNotDisturb
FolderEnhancer
Speed Intensifier
Winterboard
Zeppelin
MyWi
ToneFx 2 Pro
BiteSMS
BytaFont
CallBar
Activator
Gridlock
Multiiconmover
Reveal
Swipeselection
switchy

I've had a play around with all the above and really for the life of me I don't see anything worth doing. ...

When I still had my jailbroken iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.3, there was three apps that I used most.

1. LockInfo - similar to iOS 5 Notification Center on the lock screen and available way before Apple got around to including that feature in iOS 5 and more customisable too.

2. SBSettings - I used it loads to turn off wifi, free up memory, disable GPS, etc.

3. BiteSMS with Activator and MobileNotifier. This was my favourite tweak. It allowed me to text from inside any app by virtue of adjusting the volume and tapping an area. It brought up a nifty dialog that allowed me to select contacts and write text messages. Also, MobileNotifier gave me the Android/iOS 5 style notification popups at the top of the screen. From there I could reply to a text, again, without leaving the currently open app.

1 has been done as you said.

2 As I said prefer just to leave them on for ease of use.

3 I might have another play around with that. But I really don't see any of them been mission critical for day to day use. Maybe its just me as I do seem to in the minority :)

What are good sources, trying to install infinifolders and a few others from when I had my iphone 4 but not available on my sources?

I have a few:

Also another beginning with ins, but I think that one has cracked apps on it so not saying it.

Yeah the auto protect apps do seem a little hit and miss! But great concept!
I've tried autoprotect and cleverpin, it is hit and miss yes.. Shame, great idea.. Not sure why it's not very reliable thoguh.

So I nearly completed this post.. but then my computer had a BSOD.. AGAIN .. sigh! Ok round 2:

This is why I jailbreak!

JcwIg.png

ProTube, lets you reply to comments, watch playlists, download videos. Just a general better youtube app by far.

zTObk.png

This is a new one called Switchy. 4 apps in the switcher I find useless, 8 is a lot better.

TEGsN.png

AppLocker. Lets you lock applications, with photos there are work arounds such as opening up image apps, but its still pretty good. Only asks for password when I'm not on home network as well.

30Znu.png

Folder enhancer, lets you have folders within folders, pages of applications within folders so I don't need 2 folders for games, it also loads quicker and looks nicer then apples implementation.

Springtomise 2: Lets you do so much. I have removed labels and changed my carrier name in top left to my home phone number. There is a lot of options for this app.

Tqcw5.png

BytaFont, I have a custom font. I can't even remember what the default looks like... I'm sure its not like this though.

Finally, BiteSms. I would jailbreak if this was the only tweak available!
As shown above, timestamps.. I love timestamps!

I get a message when my phone is off, it turns on and shows this..
JC6uB.jpg.png

If the phone is on and I'm in a app I get this, I click reply and off I go. This saves me SO MUCH TIME. I HATE exiting apps to reply to messages. I LOVE BITESMS.

Sbsettings, everyone knows it. I disable Wi-Fi when not using it because my battery is terrible (doesn't seem like 5.1.1 has helped much either from 5.01).
You can also see in the bottom right the bitesms option which creates a new message.

There are also small things like:
IncarcerApp: "Disable app exit methods to lock-in". If someone wants to go on my phone and I don't want them playing around, lock them in.
Veency A vnc server for the iPhone. Sometimes when I'm at my desk and texting a lot I will just take control from PC and use KB to type. A bit laggy but it does the job.
3G unrestrictor Things like Facetime are disabled over 3G by default, this will remove that.
StayOpened, I click install in the app store and it takes me to my springboard.. This disables AppStore closing and showing springboard, tiny thing but I like it.
Fast copy: "removes copy/fast menu choice delay", there is a default delay this just removes it..
Five icon dock: I want 5 icons in the dock not 4.. Love it.
Safari Upload Enabler: Lets you upload to certain websites using the proper file structure to browse.

I had a look earlier at that app on the iPad (can't think of name)
nJHCj.jpg.png

Nice idea, I only played with it for a few minutes. Got a bit confused though when the bottom bar went off the screen, how I move the app and stuff. Was on youtube and Safari in the picture above. I feel like the screen is too small anyway tbh.

Infinifolders should be enough of a reason for everyone to jailbreak their iDevices, why have 4 folders all labelled "Games" when you can have just one?

Also, like I mentioned Graviboard!

Finally, for those of you that don't know it was through jailbreaking that the first fully functional bluetooth app was made. This enabled iPhone users to send and recieve any file type from any other bluetooth enabled device (something with older/cheaper phones have been doing for years)

You don't like deck?
It looks and feel like its an apple feature rather than a jb one. I think the way it cuts away like notification centre in 10.8 is rather neat!

Yeah the auto protect apps do seem a little hit and miss! But great concept!

Deck does look good actually. Not seen it before did you used to use sbsettings? As that is what iam using and have been for years now.

autoprotect and cleverpin great idea but neither work for me

I use SBSettings and NCSettings, it's nice not to have to go all the way into the settings app just to switch wifi on/off

Loving the jailbreak :) One of the first things I installed was "SwipeSelection". Such a small and simple tweak that really probably should have been included by Apple in the first place :p

Anyone know if there is a tweak to allow YouTube to continue playing in the background while you use another app?
