Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

The OcUK forums are generally excellent apart from a few silly rules that result, if broken, in 48 hour suspensions. ie.You've Got Mail rule on MM. I completely agree with the no-swearing rule. It's a welcome change.

I can understand people thinking there are 'cliques' but I can't really agree with this anymore. Certain people build up 'forum friendships' which can be mistaken by some (mostly newcomers) as alienating them. I'd scrap the whole post count idea along with the Wise Guy, Gangster and Man of Honour system. I don't actually think it's needed. I know I treated people with post counts of 1000+ differently when I first joined.

What annoys me most is that certain egotistical forumites and their MSN buddies bring there 'banter' on to here and regularly derail threads. This 'banter', in my opinion, should be kept to MSN Messenger. A lot of these people seem to get away with this because they have high post counts whilst newcomers don't.

The above are just minor criticisms. Overall, it's a very friendly place to be but tbh something really needs to be done to attract more female members! :p

Personally i have no beef with any of the rules, they make perfect sense to me and are not difficult to follow. I've been here bloody ages, since about 2000 i think, and in that time i've never been suspended or banned, i've had two posts deleted, one was because it was a harsh post and i thought it might go and the other was explained fully to me by the mod who deleted it, i've had a couple of posts edited as i've missed swearies.

The only thing i think should be done is that i think there should be a swear filter, just as sometimes people make mistakes and leave something in by accident, and although generally you just get the word edited and an oi from the mod, it would eliminate any problems of people bein suspended because of a mistake.

As for the clique thing i don't thin there are cliques, but people who have met others on the forum do tend get their posts noticed more by those that have met them, but that is a fact of life, you by nature just notice people you have met and can put a face to's posts more. I've been here ages but am one of the more annonymous and less noticed posters who don't always post complete gibberish (well all the time:))

I can see what new people mean about the clique thing, I thought that when I first started reading the forums. But after a while, I realised it wasnt a clique at all and if you were prepared to make a bit of an effort you'll be included in the banter. Plenty of people in the 'core' group of posters havent met each other, its purely down to posting, being friendly, making an effort. I'm certainly not even close to being one of the core group (at the meet I wasnt convinced anyone would know who the hell I was!!) but I've met some of them, spoken to others on MSN and was made to feel totally welcome and immediately included on all counts.

As for the rules etc....the forum is what the forum is. The rules/dons/UB's/avatars etc make it what it is. Like it or lump it really. :D

that is exactly the attitude that offends, and it is expressed all the time by the mods.

Agree with us or don't post. Hence the comments about censorship and china and heavy moderation blah blah blah.. and partially hence my early remarks, it isn't general discussion, it is general agreement, and if not, **** off. And that is a serious problem.

AND ALSO

as mentioned several times, why do OcUK not have a) a tech support forum, b) an rma forum, and c) a customer forum? It would cost virtually nothing, and oh my word it would solve some issues.

You don't like banging your head on a wall do you, so you don't do it, do you?

If you don't like the barstaff in the Pig and Coach, you don't drink there, do you?

Think of the forums like the local, and the mods as the staff....

Draw your own conclusion

More crap. People have disagreed with Spie himself before now and they are still around to say as such.

If people cant post within the rules, then they can go elsewhere. Nowhere in the rules does it say you have to agree with anyone. Your own posts in this thread are testament to that.

with reagrd to the remark I quoted, my comment makes sense.

And who are you to dismiss my opinion as crap? an opinion is exactly that, whether right or wrong it is an individuals inalienable right to hold it.

To quote a cheesy line "I don't agree with what you say, but I support your right to say it"

It wasn't an opinion, it was a statement of what is allowed and not allowed to be posted. It was incorrect, and hence crap.

re-read and inwardly digest once more, it was an opinion, not a statement of fact.

Nana, at risk of sounding personal, you could crap diamonds starting now and still complain about it.

Agree with us or don't post is rubbish . I have disagrees with Mods and Spie himself on recent threads but I keep it constructive and with good argument and don't scream Nazi when things don't go my way.

If my beef goes beyond that, I will take it to e-mail. Why ? I will give you two reasons.

1) I use these forums regularly and with all things in life there are rules. To use something I don't pay for and also get enjoyment from I have to respect those rules. The FAQ's say no questioning a Moderator on the forums, fair enough.

2) Maybe I am just old fashioned, but I don't believe in questioning authority in front of the masses. It is done in private and that may be the forums or out in the real world. That is what the e-mail rule is for. You don't like it, say so in private and don't question it in public. It's not as if you can't question it at all is it ?

There will be the inevitable ' He's sucking up ' comments, but I really don't care. I just respect rules when they are laid down in black and white and are not entirely unreasonable.

There is always the option of doing one if you don't like it.

It's not official policiy no, but that is the attitude you get from some people on here on occasion. I was going to bring up that same comment Nana brought up with myself to say the same, but I decided it wasn't worth it in the end. I've read people say things like "If you don't like it, you know where the door is", etc before, and sure, it's true, but it's almost always said in response to someone being overly-critical of things on here. As soon as this thread got a bit negative, I was expecting to see comments like those appear, and they did. No, it's not meant in a threatening manner, but it still comes across as a tad harsh. People can have criticisms but still like the place enough to stay, I know I do. :)

You're peeved because you got jumped on in a thread recently in which you made an arse of yourself.

Stop posting and making up crap. Threads get closed when people like you derail them with crap like this.

I'm presuming the mistakes were done on purpose?

yep exactly my opinion, I know I'm not alone in my opinions, I'm just one of the few who is honest enough to express them, there's enough, "omg no look at the moderation and lack of consistency" posts in this thread alone to make me think I'm maybe not wrong.

You don't help by pushing your luck though. There's disagreeing with things and there's trolling, and you do seem to enjoy riding the line. ;)
