Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

Sort of know how you feel there although probably partly my fault for not keeping up to date by getting a X-Box 360 :o but I know that I always thoroughly read your posts, HangTime's and DaveyD's posts as you all tend to really know your stuff and can put your points across eloquently and intelligently.
So try not to give up on the gaming lot just yet ;)
Haha, cheers. I'm not really criticising the forums themselves, they've more just gotten away from me since I haven't had the money to stay up-to-date with games these days. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere ;).

As for the cliques thing, I think it's simply the fact that there are some people on this forum that get far closer to one another than you get in most other places. 99% of all the other forums of this scale and size don't have regular social meetings between their members, and there are so many on here that are friends in real-life or outside of the forums that you're just bound to get members that get along better with one another and will inevitably appear cliquey to the outsiders. You just learn (as I did), that they're just being friendly with one another, and they're not going to stop you from posting, so just get on with doing what you want to do. :)

totally off topic weebull, but i love the song from your sig. my favourite of theirs, in fact

If you think that there's a problem with 'cliques' here, you should ask yourself the following question:

Would I still perceive this problem if I was funnier, better looking or more interesting?

Your answer to that question will tell you all you need to know.

;)

If I was the above I wouldn't be using a forum. ;) :p

this place is awesome because:
loads of members
and a place like this is an awesoem way to learn, i joined less than a year ago and i have learnt so much its unbelivable.

I don't believe this to be possible but I like to think if it were the case I would still grace you with my presence

In my short time here I recognize that this forum is very very good. It is mainly populated with people who behave in a courteous, professional manner. Too many forums are filled with text-speaking preteen Neanderthals who seem to sit around arguing over who is the most awesomest. Someone mentioned that they see this forum as having very few members under the age of 18. In reality I'd say that there are many younger members but they behave in a manner befitting someone of calm intelligence. This is the Internet. For the most part the only thing people can know about you is what you tell them. If you come off like an idiot, people will begin to suspect that you are indeed an idiot.

As for there being cliques here I see no evidence of it. Sure, there seems to be camaraderie betwixt the most active posters (spammers!) on GD and a few others, however this is not borne of closed-mindedness, rather, it is borne of genuine friendship. Anyone can be welcomed into the club. Nobody ignores the posts of new or unfamiliar users. Why anyone do that?

The only place I think there might be even the slightest hint of cliquishness is the Distributed Computing forum. The people there are more than happy to welcome new users but since there are relatively few of us it seems that there are only small group of DC-crazed maniacs exchanging ideas. There is a specific vernacular associated with the OcUK DC teams and to a rookie it might seem daunting. It’s not really a problem as much as it is just a fact of life here.

I’m glad to be a part of this forum. The rules here do involve heavy moderation and strict enforcement of the law but this is probably the biggest boon to my enjoyment and the forum’s readability. On too many forums as soon as I start browsing I’m assaulted by page-long sigs, obnoxious trolls, incomprehensible text-speak and other crimes against my eyes. The rules here are what keep this a good place to visit.

Perhaps the powers that be should consider a medical forum and a I can't get through on the telephone one also to please certain members ?

I would happily volunteer to moderate. It would be such fun to type out 200 times a day ' Keep trying '

and

' See the doctor '

* no sarcasm intended *

What about the "My girlfriend dumped me" and the "what shall I have for dinner?" forums?

When I joined this forum i was 14 so i guess he's right.

As a newish member I've found these forums to be a lot frendlier than most of the others I've visited and certainly the most active I've seen really. I'm a mod on a big GTA San Andreas forum and that's about the only other good one I've stuck around on.

Definitely better than other forums I visit, the only thing I'd change if I could would be having the forum seperate from the shop for more freedom discussing stuff in the hardware forums. Obviously that isn't going to happen though.
