Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

I think this forum has many big positives. The only other forum I use regularly is an F1 forum, of a big website. Yet at any one time we have no more than 20 active users. A massive multi national sport has 20 active users. This place is almost always heaving with people.

Iv'e always has people help me with PC and console woes and advice. Some have gone to great lengths to find links to bit's I need or take pictures of their set up.

The moderation doesn't bother me at all. Without it and this many users it would be chaos. For an example of this you just need to look at football365.com's forum/chat room. A flick through a couple of pages shows what under modderation achieves. Thats supposed to be a football chat forum

My only slight niggle is the total randomness of some of the GD threads, total no thinking one answer topics. Like should I wear shoes or trainers. Do you wear an ear ring. When did you last eat chips. Are you left or right handed. Some of those are just waste of bandwidth and aren't discussion they are one word answers. Pointless drivel imho.

But the people make the place and so far Ive found it friendly and helpfull here.

your also not too good at taking a little constructive criticism... ;)

Incorrect. There are very few offences that carry an automatic week-long ban. More carry a 48 hour ban and a lot simply get edited and warned unless a person is repeatedly offending. Of course the severity of the offence dictates the length of the suspension.

true, i had forgotten its 48hours first, but the application of it is still in question, and is applied in no real sense or order to the point that you find yourself running back to your posts to make sure you didnt slip up... if you did and your lucky, yellow scrawl, unlucky = suspension.

Incorrect. All mods reply to mails. Otherwise they wouldn't be mods. however, we are human and sometimes real life stuff takes us away from our PCs. Yes, even me. So if you don't get a response in a timely fashion try emailing a mod who is online at the time and explain your situation.

i am mistaken again it seems... out of hairydon, thebaddass, Andy, adwhitworth, davey.pitch, Feek,

i got a reply off:

Feek
to me
Sorry, I'm no longer involved with the moderating team, but I expect one of the others will reply. (which was nice of him to do given he didnt have to)

and Andy who said:
In my opinion you did the right thing. If it doesn't feel right then
don't go through with it

which was sound advice but given i sent you all enough information and proof that the guys account was under a false name and false e-mail address to have his accounted deleted, and given that he is still on OCUK, whats to stop it happening again and how was it dealt with?

Gilly said:
Either this will be being discussed amongst the relevant mods or something happened to the mail. This will not ever happen. We do not ignore such issues.

Put simply, I don't believe you :)

well gilly, ive got the original e-mail here i sent back in november detailing that i hadnt gotten the product id paid for as it was OEM and not retail, maybe i should print it and send it recorded? ;)

The forum is run entirely separately to the shop. The mods do not work for OcUK. This is common knowledge.

of course it is seperate... thats why theres a big logo in the top left directly linking you to the shop... and and lets not forget all the "special offers" and "limited Editions" that get typed up about offers from the shop in the forums

Gilly was replying to the part where you said you had no reply from the mods, but you've just shown above that you did.

Yes we are, but only when it actually is constructive.

It isn't 48 hours first. It depends what is said. Some carry auto 7 day suspensions.

You obviously have no idea how it works so possibly you should find out before commenting on it. We have rigid procedures as moderators and anything that doesn't fit into these procedures is discussed in the mod forum.

I don't deal directly with MM stuff so can't really comment. What I can tell you is it will have been discussed and if the person is here then he is here because you didn't actually provide enough information.

Ah, so you're talking shop matters on the forum? And not getting anywhere?

Thought we'd already covered this.

I didn't say it was entirely separate. I said it was run separately. If you choose to ignore important points like that its your lookout, but it won't get you anywhere.

Its actually quite plain that you were exaggerating when you said what you said earlier. Any further complaining posts regarding this instance in this thread will be removed. If you're not happy with this or you want to discuss it further with me than my email is available in the FAQ.

Don't post anywhere else now, by far the best forums around and I've no problems at all with our (allegedly  ) Chinese/draconian mods.

If it wasnt for the shop then there would be no forums to start with!

I think the main reason why we ll get along is probably due to the fact that were all in the UK (except a few), which maes it easier to comprehend things and cant attend these 'meets'.

Thats just my £2's worth anyway

OcUK forums are quite good but I've seen some bad moderating decisions before.
The human factor. No-one is infallible.

If you don't agree with a decision you can discuss it, but only off the forums.

Well,

I like it here - it's actually my homepage (true)

Ive met some interesting people and have made some good mates from here.

Mods do a good job considering how the user base has expanded over the years since i first joined.

My only gripe is the teeny bopper posts i see which are totally useless - but hey who am i? :D

It can sometimes drop into an "agony aunt/lets feel sorry for me" forum in GD.

Obviously my fave is the MM :D

Keep it up Ocuk.

I only belong to a few forums and these are by far the most civilised and knowledgable.

This is not only a place where computer problems can be solved but also somewhere that youngsters can learn how to behave.
The rules and how the Mod's do their job, create an atmosphere where everyone can enjoy things; If people want swearing, porn, flame wars etc, there are more than enough places out there.

There's always a good mixture of people here too; ranging from pubescent, angry young boys to grumpy old farts like me, with a smattering of the fairer sex too, to give us a nice ballance.

You will never please all of the people all of the time and you will always find the odd troll or maverick determined to demonstrate their lack of manners or knowledge so suspensions and bans are required.

As to the content of posts; I think that it's a little like trying to fill a 24 hour TV list; there will be some great posts, some "filler" and maybe even the odd bit of Spam, all mixed in with copious repeats.

As somone else said earlier, I only wish that I could contribute more in other sections but my experience and knowledge of hardware/software mean that I'm usually asking for help rather than giving it. :)

Well said too.

Do you two want a room?

Anyhoo, my view is that Overclockers is a very diverse community which works well together and is always good for information, advice and a laugh.

There are clearly stated rules, and as such if these are broken then punishment (harsh word but my internal thesaurus is broken) should be expected. Whilst there are sometimes discrepancies in the level of punishment then you just need to consider what Gilly said, that the mods are real people with real problems and responsibilities, I for one was not unduly upset when I was suspended as I agreed that my post was trying to bend the rules somewhat.

In regards to shop talk then it's stated in the FAQ that shop matters are not to be discussed on the boards, it's not a support forum, it's a community which came about due to people wanting advice about hardware and it grew from there. If you don't like it, tough.

I like it here, and hope to stay (please don't ban me :p).

Dym
not sucking up, just understanding.
