Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

I don't agree with the clique comment at all. Not in GD anyway. I can see how one might appear to be present in Sports but thats just the regulars not allowing any n00bs or visitors who only call in to cause trouble to get away with it. The Motors forum suffers from the same thing but its worse.

I think a few people have commented on cliques, specifically a GD clique but these are also the people who probably

A) Wish to be a part of said clique
B) Don't realise how welcoming the clique is and how likely they would be accepted

Its not like the GD regulars will ignore anyone else, so apart from the fact that there are a rough group of people who know each other better than most - I don't see how the clique excludes anyone.

Agreed. I can see how one might interpret the friends and the meet group as a clique. If people projected themselves more, however, they'd see that its just a group of people that get on and aren't exclusive.

It's the first UK based forum that I have been on - In the days of the wild wild web, it was all usenet and bbs's, then it was US based games forums.

Are they the best quality? It's too subjective to make a call.

Not in terms of the people - after all, we all know that people are the same wherever you go (</Stevie>). By their nature, forums attract people with common interests, so there are bound to be plenty of common denominators and shared characteristics.

In terms of the rules? They are no less stringent than other places I have been - If anything, they need to be enforced more strictly due to the demographic.

The colour? Blue doesn't do it for me, but what you gonna do?

I have other critiscisms, but, even though I may not consider them the best forums (not that I have a favorite), I still value my account :)

clique: A small exclusive group of friends or associates.

I disagree with this description of any one or group of people in GD.

cliqueiness is being confused with people knowing each other, there is a core group in GD but it comes from people attending meets and actually being friends IRL but that doesn't make it a clique because those people are very welcoming of new people and encorage them to get involved to, they are anything but insular.

It’s probably the best one I’ve been on but I haven’t been on a lot. When I first joined, I found the moderating to be over the top but when you get use to it, you start to understand it’s necessary and that it makes it a better place.

Another forum I read which is based around web design and graphics has a very poor level of moderation and everybody is allowed to swear. This seems to bring out the worst in the posters. If someone posts something for critique and it’s not very good you often see posts that just say “That’s ****.” You would never see anybody here post something so blunt and useless.

I find OcUK much more friendly and helpful and people show each other respect. Although, there are some people who like to push it a bit in the sport forum and constantly bait people.

It’s nice and friendly though, what more could you want?

I've not been a member of any other forums so it is difficult to comment fairly, I have read a fair few others though from time to time and overall I'd say OcUK forums come off pretty well in comparison. Most of the posters are friendly, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on a wide range of subjects and quite a good sense of humour running through a lot of the posts.

As for the moderating team, they seem to be pretty on the ball and I can't think of any decisions that I could call manifestly unfair so it is :) all round ;)

this is definitely true, i can kinda see how it might seem cliquey, as it definitely did when i first joined, but if you're not an ass and you get chatting to people, you're obviously going to make some friends. the people who moan about it being cliquey either dont want to make any effort to make friends, or dont want to make friends anyway, so it's their problem.

Well ive been here for quite some time, a good few yrs probably before most of you were here. I do enjoy my time here, some threads are class and some arent. But lately im getting sick of all the muslim/ethnic bashing threads that seem to crop up now on a more frequent basis but anyways i guess with a forum this size everyones gonna have differing views and opinions. Sometimes is good to hear other peoples views and sometimes its not.

As for the mods??, they seem to do a good job...theres a few of them that i like and respect and theres a couple here that i dont think deserve the titles of Don or UB's etc but thats all imo though...im sure a few will get all uppity about it. Seems like the more popular you are the better your chances are at getting the UB title or Don title.

But all in all its ok here, definitely not the best forum or place i inhabit but its good for a laugh now and again i suppose. Lately ive been keeping off this place, tend to only come here during the day when i should be working lol but hey it helps pass the time.

If you're unpopular you're not likely to be chosen to work alongside other forum users. Its not a popularity contest but if you annoy people its not going to happen.

Unlucky Spawn ;)

I have to agree with Sic, I felt the same way when I first joined. Like with any relationship, you have to make an effort with people and they will make an effort with you.

Although the meet was scary, I was so glad I went, like people have said in here there is a great bunch of people... but you can only find out for yourself if you get to know them/go to meets.

Sic is cool :D

Am i bothered though??, not really. Im not here to be liked as i dont know anyone here in real life and havent met anyone off the forums except for Demonic but hes no longer here or in this country etc. I dont think ive annoyed anyone on purpose unless your trying to tell me something??. But if anything i come here, post my opinion and thats really all theres to it tbh.

Not unlucky dude, just cant be bothered thats all ;) and arguing or debating with you is like hitting 2 bricks together, quite foolish and painful :p.

That pretty much sums it up for me. There are other forums I prefer but OCUK is allowed at work so it's what I browse through the day. The hardware sections aren't as comprehensive as other places and GD is pretty much one big circlejerk nowadays or full of "How do I cook egg/get girlfriend" type posts. Sports Arena is pretty good though :)

I think GD and SC are very clique-based. The only problem with this is when one or two cause problems as has happened previously causing lots of bannings when other members get involved. For example, Von Smallhausen's "banning", the forced avatar "incident", previous members of the moderating team, Gordy's removal from Case Central, etc.

The best part about the OcUK forums, in my opinion, are the technical forums with a wide range of experience that helps me a lot in my job in IT support. Other forums just don't seem to be as welcoming to members with simple problems. As long as you avoid the shop threads about the latest item being sold there is good information to be had.
