Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

I think it comes down to the fact that these forums don't really attracy anyone under the age of about 18.

Go read the official Xbox forums, its an absolute nightmare with every 13 year old trying to prove his authority.

I think GD and SC are very clique-based.
I'd like to have an explanation on this too. Who are they populated by? Where does this take place?

Sure as hell isn't in GD.

Can someone tell me who is in these cliques? How many there are and what they are based around, I just can't see them

The most obvious to me: Piggymon, Desmo (obviously both are together), Gilly, Von Smallhausen & Feek. It's one example and there are others in the different sub-forums, though I don't know if the members I've mentioned will be too happy people might think that.

In SC it's usually the same right/left-wing split on the same topics over and over (insert latest anti-PC/immigration/New Labour story).

Now as I said it's not usually a bad thing for this to happen, but I wonder what it would be like if any of those members were banned? I mention Von Smallhausen only as it already happened, even if it was a joke.

The one thing I really dislike (been reminded by Spawn, was it?) is that during debates, the loudest people here appear to be extremely conservative/nationalistic, especially when talking about Muslims, immigrants, politics, sexual orientations, etc.

Though most of the time I can ignore it, sometimes the comments get so bigoted, and those who are like-minded just pile it on until any word against them gets leapt upon and picked to shreds.

But I try and put it down to this being a forum of largely reserved men and boys with too much testosterone :p

i think people are getting the clique thing confused with the regs. there's definitely a core of regular posters here, and that may seem cliquey to people, because most people in these "cliques" have actually established a relationship off the forums, too. i dont see what the problem is with it though

edit: afraser2k...a member that i used to consider one of the popular guys was GTA, and he got banned. life goes on though. i should imagine that anyone who was friends with him off the forums still keep in contact, just as they would if anyone got banned from the forums.

Having similar political leanings isn't a clique

Your statement about Piggy and Desmo is odd because they are a couple not a clique, Gilly isn't cliquey at all hes horrible to everyone, Von will talk to everyone and I've never know Feek to cut people out. Together that little lot are part of the hard core meet going group, so they have some in jokes but they are hardly isolationist in fact quite the reverse IMO, these are the people that go out of their way to be welcoming to new members :/.

Can see how it might come across as, not cliquey, but there are groups with in-jokes, mainly from forum meets or meeting up in real life, but also referring to threads from way way way back and remembering past conversations which people new to the forums simply wouldn't get and may feel excluded slightly or a bit puzzled, but I'm sure no-one would object to explaining if asked! :) Occasionally there are aspects of 'defendng anothers honour' which isn't surprising either as if someone was slagging on one of my friends then I'd stick up for them!

Anyhoo, think the forums are good, pretty well run all in all and an excellent bunch of people.

*touches everyone*

*edit*

I think people are also slightly misusing the term 'clique' which, as the definition posted earlier says, seems to refer to a group who are exclusive, whereas my first reaction to the word is just a defined group of people, exclusivity has nothing to do with :)

There are some bleeding heart liberals here too, we're just in the minority but that should never ever put you off posting, to be a rounded community all opinions must be voiced.

Erm - you forgot Lilly-livered, woolly-minded and tofu-munching-mung-bean-brain.

I've started coming here more regularly during the day because its really slow at work lately. I generally dont come on here weekends or after work, but this place keeps me fairly entertained during the day.

Only things I dont like is the having to walk on egg shells and be very careful what I write and trying to figure out if mentioning one company or another is a breach of rules sometimes does my head in. Like someone is asking about a specific product and I'd like nothing more than telling him where I saw it for a great price but then remembering I cant.

I can live with that though, I just go to the dvd forums :D

Oh and I dont really see a clique in the gd, but i'm probably not regular enough to notice it anyway.

I'm still gutted to this day that GTA isn't a member of this forum and yet certain others are, but its a fact of life and you just get on with it.

If you honestly think that I am cliquey ask some of the guys that have been to meets and met me. Did I exclude anyone? Did I keep myself to myself and my group of friends.

In-jokes are always going to happen with people that know each other off the forums. Its just the way it works. It doesn't signify a clique.

But would a new member think that from browsing the forum? I mention it as a clique as at times they seem to be a closed-group that, although welcoming to new members, don't really introduce new members "into the clique", if you know what I mean.

Note that I'm not singling out these people as bad examples or anything like that.

Oh, BTW, I take no offence at being mentioned in the clique. I can understand how it probably looks from the outside what with all the in jokes and whatnot. I don't see how it can be changed at all though. You have to try and get involved from the "outside" as it were.

Feek forced me into going to the Swansea meet, virtually kidnapped me

then along with Auntie Von, Mr Huddy, Freefaller, Davey_Pitch and all the others there, FORCED me to have fun.

I've changed my mind, this forum is full of ******** that won't leave you in peace! :p
