Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

Good forums, easy to read and bar a few abusive bad apples I have had on msn, I could name 500 people who I have spoken to on msn who have made me more knowledgeable / see things from another light just from this forum.

Good posters, just never enough debate in case central :(

Think it's possibly because there are still only 2 cases worth buying... even after 12 months.

No doubt I'll get banned but in my opinion these are some of the worst forums. Incredible censorship give a distinct Chinese flavour. Most of the posters are young and immature.

Still, the sheer number of people mean that occasionally a pubescent "OMG GIRL" or "MAKE MY MIND UP FOR ME!" post doesn't come up and there's something genuinely interesting.

because you KNOW specifically what I am talking about, and hence are fully informed. :/

anyway further to Ota's kind invitation to mail him, I have. Expect to see me suspended, yet again, or perhaps banned this time.
Considering you've been asking for it for a month now why do you even bother posting here.

Hmm, yes and no.

For the pluses, the Sports forum is the best I've found anywhere, because it's kept largely free of the abusive idiots I've seen everywhere else, and it's just generally a nice friendly place. The Music forum usually has something worth reading every now and then, the specialist (ooerr missus) forums are great for finding people with good knowledge on their specific subjects, and I enjoy lurking in Speakers Corner even though I almost never post in there, because the debates are usually pretty good when they don't descend to flaming.

In the middle, GD is a mix for me. Occasional thread of interest, random funny post, and then a bunch more spam/girl thread/trying-too-hard-to-be-funny posts to even them out. I'd like to rate the PC and Console forum as one of my favourites too, but nowadays I only ever seem to find maybe 3 or 4 threads in both of them that are worth reading, so it's almost become somewhat of a marginal forum of interest for me now.

Downsides? I find a lot of people seem to enjoy getting away with underhand insults, the stupid rolleyes smiley, and just being generally rude to other people on here nowadays, because they manage to avoid ever directly crossing the line and breaking a rule, and thus get away with it. I'm on another forum that contains far more swearing and arguments than this place does, and the mods are actually outright insulting to people that break the rules some times, but because it's more open and honest between people it's actually a much more relaxed atmosphere and it's far friendlier and funnier than I've ever really found this place.

So why do you post?

These here forums are very good. The other few I frequent-bad language is rife and quite a few peoples attitudes suck. I used to think that OcUK was well over-moderated (to an almost anal-retentive level).

But I must say that after spending a while here, the atmosphere is brilliant for the most part, and other forums seem to be full of neanderthal teenagers in comparison (i.e. the sort that deserve to, and indeed do get suspended from here).

So yes, I'd sat this is a rather dang good forum (most of the time).

I dislike the heavy moderation sometimes but then with a set of forums of this size, it's almost compulsory.

I partake in a forum which is completely unmoderated - ok so we only have 20 or so hardened regulars - and 50 or so who are familiar - but there's never any trouble. After the initial weeks of getting it all out of our system, it has become self-moderating, and most newcomers don't seem to feel the need to push boundaries - cos there aren't any!

I'd be interested to see what happens if we continue to grow.

For a forum which covers so many different areas I’d would say that OcUK is one of the best around. Yes I can see why some people (and myself included at the odd times) have issues with the strong rules/moderation, but comparing this to the alternative option of having HUGE sigs, text speak, silly personal bickering this site wins hands down.

And for those that don’t like it or keep complaining, why do you continue visiting and posting here?

OcUK doesn't have the best forums around, but they are good - I wouldn't bother posting here otherwise. There are a good number of fantastic people, and they and the (generally) sensible moderation make up for all the annoying niggles.

I can say exactly the same thing. One other forum I post on has an utterly fabulous set of regulars who are some of the most intelligent, informed people I've had the pleasure to talk to. It's completely unmoderated (well... there are moderators but they don't do much except edit idiotic posts for comic effect ;)) but it all works out fine, as people know not to take the mick because it's not worth the hassle.

The best part is that whenever there are annoying or immature kids who come along, we can harass them until they either get better or leave. Fantastic!

Sort of know how you feel there although probably partly my fault for not keeping up to date by getting a X-Box 360 :o but I know that I always thoroughly read your posts, HangTime's and DaveyD's posts as you all tend to really know your stuff and can put your points across eloquently and intelligently.
So try not to give up on the gaming lot just yet ;)

I find it strange how quite a few people here are commenting on how heavily moderated it is here. I don't even notice the moderation, but then maybe thats a testament to how good the mods are, gone before you see it. If somebody posts something outside of the rules then it gets removed and dealt with duly, the rules are not difficult to follow (ok so maybe the MM ones are a little, i got suspended once for a ygm). And anyway, there still a good deal of stuff on here that I wouldnt be entirely comfortable showing to my mother! :p

These are by far my favorite forums, strict moderation cuts out the crap, leaving decent and interesting threads. :)

I think the forums are one of the better around. It's ultimately the community here that keep people posting IMO.

Is there a difference between "Banned" and "PermaBanned" or are they one in the same?
IIRC, there's a slim chance of being allowed back in if you're banned, for example, people who were banned before October 2002 were given a chance to re-register after the nuke. Permabanned users were not.

They're good but I wouldn't say they are especially unique. It's amazing the number of large, friendly and intelligent forum communities you stumble upon while randomly searching for stuff with Google. The internet is HUGE!!

I must admit recently there have been some members who seem young and immature, unfortunately OCUK can't stop them for registering (though I have wondered why/how they would/do) and they don't contribute to the thread apart from spamming it and going off topic.

When this happens I choose to  and read the relevant posts. It is aggravating, but some things you just have to live with in life.

BB x

PS what do you mean by 'Chinese'? Am I to be offended by that?! ;) j/k

PPS It is a great meeting place and the people who I have met on here (and some I haven't) are totally great - so yes I think this is one of the better forums definitely :)
