Are you afraid to play certain games?

I would say the likes of the Fatal Frame series of games where I would try to only play it at the right times during the day and even then, I take it slow and easy. I don't want to stay awake thinking about it or end up having nightmares late at night. I tend to dream a lot so I don't want to screw up my sleeping :D.

Agreed.

Doom, Silent Hill, Dead Space, RE, all of the rest I can play no problem. I still get the 'jump' scares but nothing that makes me stop playing.

Fatal Frame series is in another league though. I couldn't play them without plenty of breaks.

Nope non that I can think off.

Played and completed all the Resi's, they were v good, the older ones had their moments but I wouldn't classify them as scary. I also played Condemned on the 360 which again had the odd jumpy moment but nothing scary. Silent Hill back in the PS days was eerie, scary in a different kind of way but still not enough to put me off playing it. Great atmosphere in that game.

More recently I played Dead Space on the PC but only got about an hour into it, great game with some good jumpy bits but I just don't find games (or films) 'scary'.

Dead Space + 5.1 surround sound = creepy.

I've never been scared of playing video games but if the music is creepy like in dead space, it can make me tense up. I remember I had to finish off Resident Evil 1 for my friend 10 years ago as he was too scared to fight the tyrant. llol. :)

+1 with the dead space and 5.1 surround sound

love scary games, condemed, silent hill and dead space are pretty awesome games

I couldn't complete the Fear 2 demo. Even during the day.

I didn't complete Fatal Frame 2 on PS2 either. The only game I've ever owned and not completed.

The first silent hill scared me with the white noise from the radio and the extreme darkness. The most recent Silent Hill wasn't that scary to be fair.

Only games I am afraid to play are platform games that require precision jumping because I break things :(

Exactly! For me, it is the fact that "Ghosts" are much more deadlier and scarier than "Monsters, creatures, aliens, mutants, zombies etc" anyday.

I mean if it was real life, at least I can try and harm/kill a monster as they are solid physical beings, whereas with ghosts, they are Supernatural entities that you cannot touch unless you have some possession of a holy relic or Feng Shui item :D.

I couldn't play Doom 3 because I didn't feel like i could defend myself lol.. I was new to kayboard and mouse and I just wound up shooting the ceiling as I got killed.

I've played through FEAR and I reckon thats about as much as I can handle, jumps just don't do anything for me at all I get too jittery and I don't find it an enjoyable experience.

I recently completed Dead Space and while i wasn't too afraid to play it, quite the opposite in fact, i did get the crap scared out of me several times. There are certain sections (such as mr regerenation) that i could only play in 15 min stints as my nerves would just ware down too much.

With that said though, it was one of the best games i've played in a long time BECAUSE it scared the bejeebus out of me. Being scared (when there's no real danger obviously) is fun for me, the adrenaline rush is fantastic.

Guess it just isn't for some people?

Agreed - Dead Space is one epic win of a game, love it to pieces, think I will crack it open and play through again soon.

i still remember the original tomb raider scaring me at a bit before you first see the t-rex in that big clearing (it wasn't that that scared me) - it was because i remember the sound of a raptor running at me but not knowing from which direction so i was just kinda spinning on the spot then it was almost a full telly's worth of teeth, scared the living hell out of me but god i loved that game :)

Dead space really comes into its own in 'insane' difficulty so i really recommend trying it if you haven't. In it two hits from a normal baddie and you're gone, the wee buggers that come in swarms are crawling death and mr regeneration is a walking death machine. When they can do some serious damage the necromorphs become far more scary.

As a side note: Mugen, love your name and your sig :)

I'll never forget playing AVP on the atari jaguar about 10-15 years ago
i was the marine and the beep.....beep...beep..beep sound of the motion tracker was unerving me somewhat when an alien jumped out at me
I literally screamed, threw the controller out of my hand and fell backwards off the chair
I felt a right fool on the floor especially since my brother and some mates were in the room and found ithysterically funny

Ever since being subjected to Resident Evil 2 at such a young age Ive never found any other games as scary. Those original RE2 days were pure terror.

I try to be a man and play horror games. But in all honesty, it takes courage for me to first load up the game, and after an hour or so my nerves give in to all the tension and I end up having to put the game down.

FEAR took me two years to complete
