Are you afraid to play certain games?

Errr, not sure what to make of this tbh, probably the most ignorant comment i've read in a while.

Believe it or not people react to things differently, i personally get very tense when i play scary games and watch scary films. I love the experience as it's all part of the fun but i'm not at all ashamed to admit they scare the crap out of me.

I'm 24 btw so cheers.

Ignorant lol :D

FFS your 24.... do you still sleep with the lights on..

I find it interesting how people get scared of different things. When i was young i used to get scared of games but now i dont. I could have the lights out, my headphones on and sit there and play dead space (brilliant game btw) and not effect me. At then end of the day you could tell yourself that the game cant hurt you so in the end you dont get scared. But i think that breaks the atmosphere of these games. So ive ruined every horror game im ever gonna play now by never getting scared which is a shame:(

You're a great guy.

Look in this thread, There are lots of people here afraid of games, including my 21 year old brother. You need to step away from the keyboard. Because you just sound like a jerk

I just cant see how a 24 year old was scared by playing Dead Space....

Edit - (because you just did!) - I really dont care in the slightest how i come across... People have conflicting views...hence a forum..

I like eerie games. Scary games are just annoying.

My best moment ever though was on stalker - SOC where you encounter a bloodsucker for the first time in the underground section. I've never cacked my pants so much, or been so tense. Ever.

Yeah I remember that bit! Owing to the X-ray engine's variety and randomness I had just played a bit in one area and died. Think it was near 'Duty' stalkers camp. The next section ahead where the train tracks are. Anyway I loaded my last save game and it was totally different. Out of no where and I mean no where, I've no idea where this bloodsucker came from but he was just outside a door and swooped in on me. Don't mind admitting that I actually jumped off my chair.

TBH you was being a little brash by saying "Are you 8 or something?....." and "FFS your 24.... do you still sleep with the lights on..", so you shouldn't be surprised if people retaliate.

From what I can gather from your posts you seem make the mistake of misjudging other peoples experiences becuase you are comparing them based solely on your own, not everyone feels and experiences things in the same way as you do, I'm personally not afraid to play any game but I can understand how some people could be, this isn't the first I've heard of adults being afraid to play certain games and it certainly won't be the last.

I for example find music very emotional, now I'm not talking about sad music, just music in general, I can listen to a trance track for example and it will make me cry becuase I find that music so euphoric, now some people may find that strange becuase they aren't affected in the same way but it just effects me differently and I enjoy that.

TBH I'm quite envious of people that are afraid to play certain games because they are getting an emotional response from playing that game that I am lacking, being afraid adds a lot to the experience of the game, for example horror films just aren't as enjoyable to watch any more for me becuase they don't really scare me as much as they used to, I wish they did.

if you had to pick a character flaw for yourself... would you go with "someone who gets scared by movies and games specifically developed to scare people" or "someone who acts like a jerk and puts people down simply because they react to things differently to him"

hmm.

I'm not usually... I try and tell myself it's just a game :p
However, when I played Dead Space I did find myself going intentionally slow just incase something jumped out on me and I wouldn't freak out ;)

Mirrors Edge was terrifying... but I do have Acrophobia... ;)

Seriously though, I used to find late night Resident Evil 4 on the Wii really tense, my flatmates and I used to have to take breaks!

The little spidery-tongue thing in Quake II used to creep me out- bursting out of any sneaky crevis or nook whilst I faffed around with that terrible blaster sidearm- smooshing my keyboard in frantic attempt to bring up the shotgun :p

Also those little green-lizard-birds in Deus Ex used to get the adrenaline pumping - simply because during the sewer/catacomb levels you kept getting glimpses, screeching noises etc but never saw what it was!

Soon as you saw the pathetic little blighter - it's terror turned to humour; aka "The Jaws Effect". ;)

I get scared witless from most scary games. I used to have nightmares when I used to watch my brother play though the Resident Evil games. At 10 or 11 I started playing Resi and Silent Hill myself. More nightmares and mum banned me from playing for a while. I've never been able to complete Resi even after getting the DS remake. I just get too scared. I did complete Silent Hill though. I remember playing Fatal Frame and being so scared I stopped playing for about a year!

Now I'm not too bad. I didn't really find Dead Space too scary but I've only played it while drunk so I don't think I really knew what I was doing. I got Silent Hill Homecoming for my birthday and I find it scary but I can't help but play it! As soon as I saw Pyramid Head for the first time I almost turned it off again! I've not tried playing FEAR yet. I have been cowering behind my boyfriend as he's been playing though!

It's not just scary games that I have an issue with. Anything with a time limit terrifies me. Like when Sonic was underwater and it started a countdown until he ran out of air. Or in Labrynth level he had to go up and the water was chasing him and you knew that if you fell that was it, he'd drown!

HAHA good call. Its when that stupid tune starts playing and you panic trying to find the nearest air bubble. This is one of the reasons why I never got to complete the first Sonic game when I was young because of that level. With Sonic 2, at least it wasn't as bad but I still tried to avoid areas where you have to be underwater for long periods of time.

Lol probably the latter..

just completed silent hill homecoming, one of the best SH games yet IMO. Easy achievements as well.

It's scary but I just kept coming back for more. It's weird really because I hate scary films.

Resi 5 here I come.

For some reasons games on the oc seem to be even scarier than their console counterpart...I cant quite put my finger on it but I have the feeling it has something to do with being close to the screen lol

So on console any game is fine but on pc...just don't go there.
