Are you "attached" to your car?

Yeah I'm definitely "attached" to my car, would be very annoyed/upset if it was wrote off or stolen.

I guess the main reason would be the time and effort put in to maintain and improve it, and finding out all the little quirks etc. :D

the amount of time and effort, i've put into my car, the freedom it has given, the amount i've learnt working on it.. yes i'm attached to my car. i would be truly gutted if anything happened to it, i can't just go out and buy another.

I love my Civic, in the way that i love what it is, but have plans for moving on to other cars too, and feel guilty! :(

If it had a bit more power etc.. it would be great, but variety is the spice of life too, i'll just try and sell it to someone i know when i do come to sell it, so i still see him around! :)

Yea, I love my car in the sense it's cheap motoring, doesn't mean I'd not sell it up tomorrow for something better if i had the cash :), but I'd always be sad to see it go due to having for a year and being it's my first car, funds only permit this car atm so something bigger will have to wait till I have more mulla to my name....

You know you are attached to your car when you hesitate when asked the question 'If you had the money, would you upgrade your car to something better tommorrow'.

in that case, i've never been attached to any car

In that case no, i'd absolutely upgrade it at any time. What constitutes an upgrade though is open for interpretation.

I wonder if that could be applied to wives/girlfriends as well? :D

Could i not keep it and get another too? :D

but fox, surley you'd swap your 530 for an M5 ??

Thing is, I don't know. I was thinking about this the other day on the way home from the RR. I'm not sure what an M5 would give me that I don't already have. Looks wise they are pretty much the same, the interior is largely similar, all you'd get is better handling which I don't have the skill to exploit and extra performance which at my stage in life is hardly a must.

The 530i.. just fits.. but then the M5, is an M5. See what I mean? It would be a difficult decision. I would hesitiate. This, I feel, is the measure of how attached you are to a car.

I always get a bit  at this time of year. That's the main reason for selling both the 214 and 220... I just got bored of them. I've found myself feeling that way about the 420 recently... especially since driving 80 miles a day to work and back. It just feels more like a work tool than a toy. Not to mention it's absolutely filthy and therefore, looks just like a dirty old Rover.

Of course, I'd be gutted if anything was to happen to it.

I'm sure after I've given it a wash I'll stand back and think "I love this car". Won't be selling up yet though... still lots of tuning/modifying potential for this car. Not to mention it's something I've been waiting for since I passed my test.

the performance of the 3 litre is hardly a must either though is it, so this is a moot point.

It came at no additional cost over the performance of a 520i or a 525i, though, whereas the M5 carries considerable additional cost. Is it worth it? Probably, but I don't know. Hence my point - hesitation, a sign you are attached to your car.

but you said 'if you had the money', so the additional cost is hypothetically irrelevant. In this case you would surely go for that 400hp of V8 goodness?
