Are you doing anything with Hue?

I have started making my own light strips which are hue compatible.

I am using a Gledopto RGBW 2.4 wireless controller. 5m of RGBW strip light cost me £9 :D

This is the Aluminium Profile I put 2 rows of them https://www.pennelcomonline.com/en/...orner-Aluminium-Profile-LEDAL03M2/m-9409.aspx

That sounds tempting.. are you saying £9 for the strip not the controller which is like £30ish? Never used anything like this but cheap enough I'd have lightstrips everywhere lol

Can you set up Aliases for them like you can on a Google Home? I found having 'Living Room' and 'Livingroom' set it helps as sometimes it doesn't pick up the space properly and interprets it as one word

Thats a good point, using Alexa you can create rooms so you don't have to name the room at all. In every room I've got an echo in "alexa turn the lights on" turns a selection of the lights in that room on.

Will also be interested to see how you get on. I was looking at the compatibility pages and I think there's a controller made by someone like sonoff that you could make your own strips.

The Gledopto is the controller and is picked up by the Hue Bridge 2 and the Hue android app so I can control them.

I have now swopped out the RGBW lights for just RGB, as I found the white lights made the colour ones look washed out.
If you buy some then get the 5050 version.

Hue sync for windows 10 won't use the light stripes for some reason.
I'm on windows 7 so I use ScreenBloom app which is free, and picks up all lights that is connected to the hue bridge.

Hope that helps

Close! Thanks very much. This is really exciting, I've wanted to replace some crappy xmas type lights behind a unit with something I can integrate into the rest of the smarts I've got going on.

Would something like this work? Basically I want something warm white that probably stretches to about 15m so can I daisy chain these? Do I need to buy extra of those 4 pin connector things? etc.

Thanks!

If they are 4\5 pin. Then you will need something like this to connect them.

I haven't tried the RGB-CCT ones as yet.

Getting the mini starter kit with hub and two bulbs. But now looking at a new lamp for dining room

The hue fair lamp is 3000lumens and room is approx 4x5m so is this bright enough ?

I’ve been installing some light strips into my mum’s new kitchen recently.

So far put two into some cupboards to create an up and downlight effect, as well as lighting the interior.

On the solid cabinet it’s a single light strip going along the top, then into a hole I drilled, down the left side, out another hole I drilled and then along the bottom.

The second glass cabinet has a single extender attached so I could do the same again, but also bring it back up the right side of the cabinet to light the inside evenly

Really pleased with the effect :)

Separately as long as they are the latest firmware.

I’ve just been in dunelm and they are clearing individual GU10 holders so got a load for alcoves and will get some Ikea bulbs to link to the hue hub

Anyone manage to get a ikea dimmer switch to work in parallel to hue ?

I don't think that's possible from what I've read. I think you have to assign bulbs to the ikea dimmer switch, but this removes the ability for the hue bridge to control them.

If you already have a Hue Bridge etc, can you just buy the Ikea Tradfri bulbs separately or do you need to also get their gateway?

New bulbs can connect to the hue bridge without the tradfri gateway.

Just be patient when pairing them as it's not the friendliest of pairings. I think I must have tried mine about 5/6 times, and then tried the manual pairing. At first I thought they might have been broke or running old software, but after reading online it seems quite common.

They work just like hue bulbs after adding though.

Anyone use Innr bulbs, i have one and it seems to randomly switch on, or revert to full white bright light when i keep setting it to 1% orange.

I’ve seen a few YouTube vids of both the dimmer and hue controlling the same bulb.
