just read that, being about 5, 7 - 5, 8 ish and 12 stone I think I'm classed as just less than overweight , I object to being classed like this.I work out 3-4 times a week at the gym, I eat well (3 meals a day, no snacking), I hardly drink any alcohol (non in last month or so), I don't eat burgers, chips etc, mostly pastas, rice, noodles etc.
I've been exercising to gain muscle, this leads me to put on weight, if I continue to do this then I could become (quite easly) "obese" in the eyes on the NHS, I could be refused operations until I lost weight! the NHS has already told people with a higher than average BMI that they will have to lose weight before having operations.

I'm just wondering now, quick poll - by your BMI are you ok, overweight, obese or clinically obese?

funnly enough, that site say that 5-8 at 14st 1 is ideal, 14st 2 is "well overweight"

BMI means **** all in the world of anything that makes sence.

Im ok now but im about to bulk up and get more muscle so i can handle joining the army easyer, Like i said im perfect at the moment it says but ones i pack on the muscle its going to say im Obese, when really ill be healthyer then i am now

As has been said... I could be 5'4'' and 11 st of pure muscle (which of course, I'm not)... that'd make my BMI as 'overweight' when in fact I'd be perfectly healthy.

BMI is really for the 'fat slobs' who dont go to the gym or have a decent amount of muscle on them. If you actually train a better method is to just see how much you can pinch and how much movement your belly/boobs/arms have when you jump up and down.

I can grab a handfull of my stomache at the moment :o

Its there for an Areodynamic effect though, When i run the air will hit it and go around it because its smooth with a bit of round edge, If i had a six pack the air will hit me straight on and slow me down due to wind resistance :p

I have thick skin on my stomach and always have, Its going to get as toned as it can soon but i doubt ill ever get a full 6 pack due to the thickness of my skin

Not being funny but its probably better not to bulk up (if by that you mean freeweights and protein powders) if you want to join the army, just remember you will have to carry the bulk around with you and feed it. Its a lot better to follow a more endurance like regime such as pressups, squats and situps with only a small amount of proper weight lifting. Have a look on their website and they may actually have a regime for you to follow. :)

bmi

Is about how much blood your hear heart has to pump round your body the more it has to pump round the more stressed it is.

If I told people my weight without telling them about working out they'd assume I was fat too, but I can't see the "objection" :/ it's just a scale, and I doubt you'd be classed the same when you meet your doctor etc in real life

This needs to be put into context. The other half is a medical professional and some of the people he has to deal with are incredibly frustrating

People who weigh 28stone who need knee operations because their joints can't support their weight, yet they refuse to believe it is down to their weight and refuse straight faced to the doctor to change any of their lifesyle habits either before or after the op.

The doctors find it so frustrating as they are trying to help people, and make them well but they know they will be back in the doctors office in no time.. but it's true that you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink..
