Argh Acne!

I had some mild acne on my back which I used a cream to takle, worked just fine, sadly can't remember the name of it (it goes up in variants of .5, 1, etc.)
My girlfriend is taking a pill, which doubles as The Pill, so i'm happy :)

I tend to get that kind, not always on my nose though.

I got them on my cheek, after they went my cheek was red so I looked clown-ish :(

Well to be fair pregnant women aren't allowed to use it so thats not something thats likely to happen.

My friend is using it and has to go on the pill simultaneously for just that reason.

Im fairly sure this should have been mentioned already or has.. but nonetheless.. to reiterate.

The only viable solution to 100% guarantee you lose your spots indefinitely is Mustard. Its fairly cheap and easily applicable if you buy the spread. It is required for the treatment though that you intensify the mustard with a bright flash of light, a camera works best, so simply take a photo of yourself covered in mustard, post it on ocuk and we'll tell you if youve done it right.

Acnease day 2 : Started taking the pills yesterday morning. This morning when I woke up for the first time in about 3 months I didn't have any new spots. Old ones still there though. The strangest thing is that I am drinking a huge amount of water (4 litres today) yet I constantly feel thirsty. Perhaps toxins are being flushed away. Very odd.

face touching is a big thing. Once i made a concious effort to stop touching my face it practically cured the problem - dont need anything more then a regular face wash now :)

I saw my doctor today and she said all the face creams and stuff are useless if you have more than mild acne, so I'm now on prescribed tablets called oxy something, but they're basically tetracycline, so will give it 6 weeks and see how it goes.

Try Hydrogen Peroxide (either the 3% or 6% solution), you get it from your chemist for about 79p/bottle. When i used to get spots badly, it worked miricales for me.

Give it a google, allot of people also swear by it.

I'm currently doing the CSR with Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%, so far so good, just got to keep the habit of doing it continuously.

I've just started on 2.5% BP for my chest and back. I used to use a 10% (Quinoderm IIRC) and I could put that on and lose 75% of my spots within 24hours because it was so drying. Because of the dryness I had to stop because it was very sore and tender.

The 2.5% stuff hasn't reduced the existing spots but I think the skin is clearer, so I shouldn't be getting any new ones. In a week or so I hope to have significantly reduced spots (not that they are particularly bad, just annoying).

Hydrogen Peroxide 6% miced 50/50 with water is amazing for healing small wounds, I use it on new piercings and should really get another bottle for dabbing onto spotty bits of my face.

Go easy though, it can really dry out skin that's not cut or 'wounded'. Just tiny dabs on the actual 'wound' and rinse it off really good.

One thing to note is that if you are given something to try (particularly something from your GP) then don't just use for a couple of weeks and give up.

If you have moderate to severe acne then you can realistically expect 10-20% improvement per month of treatment on most GP prescribed treatments. Yes thats right if you have what is clinically termed moderate/severe it will almost certainly take several months. They dont kill it all off in weeks, you really should persevere.

The treatment you should use will very much depend on the type of acne that predominates, so most suggestion of use x or use y arent always helpful. The best advice if your normal over the counter medications havent improved things enough for you is to see your GP. A lot of practices will have a GP with an interest in dermatology so ask the receptionist and if possible see them. If there isnt a specialist then they can certainly refer you if necessary

Yeh it really does dry your skin out. I shave then apply it. I do warn people if they wish to try they same .. it can sting :P

EDIT: I don't do a 50/50 mix, just 100% peroxide and i don't wash it off after. Does this mean i'm going to die young?

Just after I wrote out my post my little brain realised that 6% HP 50/50 with water would just be the same as 3% HP anyway, so no, I don't think your head will fall off just yet!

It doesn't do any harm I think, it just turns your skin white and weird as you've probably seen.

When I clean piercings with it I get white patches on my fingers where I touch it that fade after a small while.

OK I got through £150 of acnease and it did smeg all.

However I have found that Panoxyl wash from boots (£7 lasts 2-3 months) each morning combined with Clearasil Ultra pads a couple of times a day. The ultra pads have bleach on so are actually effective as opposed to most that do didly squat.

I have also found that swimming in chlorinated water a few times a week is great.

Basically anything that exposes your face to bleach seems to kill the nasties!

  • Soak your face for 60-100 seconds in a sink full of hot water. Morning, and Night.
  • Do this BEFORE taking a shower, if you are about to shower
  • Wash your face just with hot water (not a soak) when you get home from school, work etc. To clean if off.
  • Try to avoid all soaps, moisturisers and other topicals (this is an all natural solution - with less irritation)
  • Try this at least 4 days WITHOUT missing a soak or midday wash.
  • May work best for VERY oily skin

My mate had serious acne problems, and I've always just squeezed a spot out everytime one or a few come along, and it heals and goes down as if it was never there. He recently started squeezing his out, and now they aren't coming back, whereas the cream would make them go away and then come back.

Better out than in i say :p

Squeeze with your fingers, NEVER with your nails and always do it when they are white, never red, otherwise you'll just push the spot further under the skin and cause more problems for yourself.

I used to get it from the doctor in 25% but it was like applying nitromores paint stripper to your face. Stank and burned like hell and made a hole in your clothes if you wiped your fingers on them. Evil stuff :p

dunno what % i got as a teenager of the doc but its bleached colour of my clothes  and made my face go pale
