Argos catalogue

I cant remember the last time I actually looked through and Argos catalogue so I wouldn't miss it.

I always shop on line with them which has recently paid off with a glitch they had on their systems, I needed to buy some luggage and hand luggage for my holiday and they had a deal when you buy a piece of luggage you get to buy 1 of 3 accessories half price, these were luggage strap, 2 luggage padlocks and I forget the third but it was something small, anyway due to the glitch online it was showing up all of the luggage as half price add on as opposed to just one of those 3 items, me and the wife got some reallly nice large IT luggage and hand luggage that they honored once we showed them the deal online, even though their systems initially wouldn't allow it.

I think the whole business model of Argos is outdated never mind just the catalogue.

What's the point of going to a brick and mortar shop where you don't get to see what you're buying when you can do the same thing on the net a damn sight cheaper without having to leave the house.

The whole shop is now just an anachronism 10 years past its sell-by date really.

You can request a view on any item before purchasing and they are fairly no quibble when it comes to returns, while there is no real same day delivery service there is a place for them as long as they keep customer service bang on.

They need to be really really on the ball with keeping pace on change though.

Their current advertising campaign "get set go Argos" is anything but. Dead slow in the 2 nearest stores to me at the collection point.

Are they using voice picking? seems to slow things up a lot.

IMO they need to make sure (as much as possible) you can walk in and get your item(s) inside ~5 minutes or otherwise people are going to think "If I'm waiting around 30 minutes for my item I might as well have bought it online".

To be frank that rainforest place is my modern online version of the Argos catalogue

Depends a lot on what I'm buying and why - when I needed an external HDD in a hurry I nipped into Argos and likewise when needing a PC chair for something same day.

Won't lie that rainforest place has had way too much of my money lately though :S

This is why they should carry on with the catalogue.

If they become online only, lots of customers will switch to Amazon, with it's larger product selection, cheaper prices and easy 1 click ordering.

The catalogue is a keystone of it's appeal and it should keep it. Otherwise it will just blend in with the multitude of internet based stores that play second fiddle to Amazon.

No idea what voice picking is. They have these quick pay points to by-pass queuing at the till but it is pointless as the time saved is offset against the time waiting at the collection point. Waiting times seem to get longer as the years go by.

I also agree that Argos does have it's uses e.g. when I need/want something same day and there is not much difference in online prices.

Is that Nipple?!

I loved looking through that argos catalogue. Recognised so many appliances my parents used to own and I realise how spoilt we were as nearly every page in the toys section has something we owned.... Really wish my dad bought two lots of transformers though. I had all of them, if only he stored a set away unopened :) cha ching

This was the Argos Catagloue when I was 7 years old : 1986

Terminator, Rocky, and Wolf from Gladiators, all in one catalogue? So much win :D

Bigger stores in London have already gone all digital. Used to work in Argos when I was a kid, doubt any employees would miss dragging pallets of catalogues around the stores anymore.

Haha that's so weird, I was just perving over exactly the same page!

oh how I wanted the remote control watch!

£38.95 was like a million quid back then :p
It's strange how we all wanted 'high end' digital Casio's :p
I set my sights lower - I wanted the World Time Casio (about 1988) which was around £14. I have no idea why I needed the world time function at the age of 9 :o

Number 9 - oh yeah !! :p

Boxed G1 Transformers aren't actually worth that much - about £300 for an absolutely mint Optimus, most go for around £100.
Maybe in another 100 years they'll be worth something.

The best thing about casio is the basic model is still going strong and they cost just as little today. I have one, it cost me something like £12. It's my deployment watch. Tells the time and date, has a light, an alarm plus stopwatch, and it's also waterproof! What more do I need? However, the calculator casios, well if you brought one of those to school when you was a kid you'd be hailed a god.

In 30 years that still isn't a bad return for just storing boxes :p

I got no9 for my birthday and ended up ruining it as I was going through a phase of being really interested in seeing the innards of mechanical/electrical goods :o.

argos sell crap products.

the catalogue is a strange piece of history I agree, but these days id rather a million trees weren’t cut down for the sake of that low income consumer bible :p

..reels away .. btw its a j/k for those who aren’t able to tell .;)
