Ark: Survival Evolved - Dinosaur MMO/Survival PVP funz!

Well considering I have never played a survival game, nor anything with Dino's I enjoyed playing it tonight!

I'm Jagen H'gar in The New Breed btw, normally on TS with Tony and MyNight.

How does that work?

If your skill drops would you lose the ability to build certain things?

You have a limit to the total number of skill points you can have.

You can set skills to "increase, lock or decrease" so you trains something up by doing it a lot then lock it in place.

If you decide that skill is no longer relevant you unlock and set to decrease, so it will remove points from it to increase elsewhere.

It removes the popular skill tree system from newer games and results in people having a much larger variety in skills. Eve Onlines kind of does this where no two people have skill trees but there is no max limit on skill points so you just keep training. I think Ultima and SWG were the last games I played that had this.

It can be a bit of a grind but it's much more realistic than levels.

Well you did do the housework whilst riding around on your desk chair...

Right we found an open cave. Admittedly we both died as I was expecting such an onslaught lol. Need more people to go there.

One of the tribes kindly blew it open and left it for others.

Which cave? Some are easier than others. Generally they get really cold so you want hide armour and loads of food. It helps to build a campfire near the top of the base so when you are low on food you can go and cook the stuff you get while you're down there. Bats and snakes can be a real pain if you're in the central south cave.

Yup that's the one. Happily obliterated the scorpions and spiders. Started a fire to get more food and health and we must have attracted the snakes as we got overrun in seconds despite me killing at least 7 of them.

Teammate picked up my stuff then got lost trying to get out so also died lol.

So apart from mining what are other things to do on this game? I'm thinking I should start gathering my own resources and start building my own base or something

Josh got a refund without problems, I am waiting on mine still.

The game has a lot of potential but personally I couldn't put up with the performance issues and some game breaking bugs:

- fps was dropping to sub 20's, mostly around 30-40fps and the graphics looked awful (imo), if I can play crysis 3 maxed out with a constant 50+ fps then I should get better in this
- texture pop is too much and very distracting
- getting stuck on objects i.e. tony's trex in the base lol
- floating objects

and a few other things.

And to top it all of, imo in its current state, it is not worth £22, if it was £10, then I would have kept it.

I know it is only an alpha so when he gets most of that stuff sorted, I'll probably re-buy it.
